Zits, zits everywhere

Hello ladies

I know there is already a thread pinned at the top about "pregnancy skin issues", but I want to focus more on just plain old zits. I have been breaking out like a teenager the past couple of weeks. The I was hoping you can share what you're doing to keep your acne under control, or what products you're using and what makeup you're using. Any advice or help would be appreciated, as I am at my wits end. I woke up with 3 new zits this morning. Argh!

Re: Zits, zits everywhere

  • Simple brand face cleanser in the morning, coconut oil with tea tree and lavender oils mixed in before bed. Straight tea tree oil on a q-tip when I need to spot treat. Works like a charm. I rarely wear make-up.

Wow, thanks for the tips. I will for sure try the tea tree oil!
  • So far the only thing that has been working for me to keep them semi under control it the Belli Skin care line. I use the face cleanser daily and use the sulfur spot treatment as needed. And I moisturize every night and every morning with Cetafil oil control moisturizer.

I still get breaks out. Like this week my breakouts are really bad. but with the routine I do they seem to clear up more quickly than before I got pregnant.

I also will be getting facials once a month starting this weekend to help. I have always had issues with acne and facials and a good routine seem to be the only thing to help keep my skin under control.

For Make-up I just make sure that it is powder pressed no oil and for sensitive oily skin. And I also wash my brushes once a week.
  • Has anyone ever tried honey?  I know it sounds weird, but I've read good things about what it does to your skin and I realized tonight that for the past year I've used a homemade honey/sugar body scrub and my skin has improved. Since I'm also breaking out horribly like I'm 14 again (or actually, WORSE than when I was 14) I decided to use it on my face tonight in the shower because how much harm could it do - I'll take anything at this point.  My skin feels surprisingly great - soft and moisturized.  I think I'm going to try it out once a day for a week or so and see if my face improves.  Here's hoping.
  • I'm having red, dry, splotchy skin issues on my chin and corners of my nose... There are some zits in this disgusting rash-like mess, however, I've had it for 4.5 months now... Trying to call a dermatologist and get an appointment before April has proven its difficulties.

I might try the tea tree and coconut oil that everyone is suggesting, but I'm not sure if that is zit-only specific? Or does r help with redness/splotchy-ness? Also, probably a stupid question, but when you buy coconut oil, are you buying the kind that you use in cooking or is there actually a beauty version???? TIA!

Just the cooking kind. Not sure about the redness. I think honey helps with both? Or maybe it was oatmeal. I know I saw something recently since it isn't something I deal with often, I didn't really pay attention.

  • There's a spa in my neighborhood that makes all organic products and I've used their manuka honey scrub/mask and really liked it. Honey seems like a weird component but worked really well in winter.
  • And do you just use the oils once a day (at night)? Leave it on your skin or eventually wash off? Sorry for my questions, I've always been blessed with great skin so my normal dash wash routine has been my go-to and now I'm clueless. I say that baby girl just wants to be the fairest of them all lol

With the face wash I make with the coconut oil and essential oils, I only use it at night and use warm water to wash it off like you would any face wash. I use a wash cloth not splashing with water as it helps exfoliate a little bit. With tea tree as a spot treatment, I do it 1-2 times a day and leave it on like you would any other spot treatment.

The lavender in the face wash I make helps to calm your skin and can help with redness some. The coconut oil moisturizes, the tea tree heals, the lavender soothes.

  • I was already shopping for gifts on The Body Shop Website, so I ordered some of their tea tree face products. I hope it comes fast, I am dying to try and get rid of this acne! Ill post once I try it out.
  • I know tea tree oil is a common natural method, but I just thought I'd bring up an article I read recently from a dermatologist's perspective. He argued that natural isn't always better (even arsenic is natural), and that tea tree oil had been shown to alter hormone levels and even cause breast growth in little boys.

I couldn't find the exact article again, but found this:

    https://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2015/02/02/lavender-and-tea-tree-oil-block-male-hormones/

Anyway take that for what it is, plenty of people love tea tree oil too, I just figured I would share.

Myself, I have been using a topical antibiotic cream once a week called clindamycin phosphate. That's been keeping the acne under control, but does cause dryness. To combat that, I use a heavy aqua gel by a Japanese skincare brand called Naroku that's very moisturizing without being "creamy".
