First Baby

So this is my first and there are a lot of things I'm still learning, but there is one thing I'm concerned about. There's always this hungry feeling accompanying my nausea, but almost everything I eat seems to nauseate me further, is there something wrong with me or is the baby just rejecting everything I choose?

Yeah, it sucks. I'm averse to pretty much everything, but I need to eat or I get super sick. Some things make me feel better, some things make me feel worse. You have to find what, if anything, works for you.

For me, small, carb- and protein-heavy meals or snacks about every 1.5-2h is how I get by. My second pregnancy was a lot like this; my first I never had the hunger that made me more nauseous. I do a lot of plain pasta with butter, peanut butter on bread or crackers, buttered rolls. Soups and certain fruits (citrus, sour apples) are also good. Sweets and dairy are terrible. I hope you find what works for you soon.

  • It's nothing you are doing wrong. It's just hormones reacting and it's normal.

  • Welcome to the first trimester. Try to eat small amounts throughout the day. Call your doctor if you can't keep anything down. Dehydration is real so try to keep sipping water throughout the day. Hang in there mama!
  • ^^ I second the plain pasta comment. Although I usually go with rice and butter. Mmmm! Or cheesy rice. Yum!

  • I feel you! This is our first too and it's all so new! I try to make sure I drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated - warm water or hot water with lemon seems to work better for me. Sometimes I'll have some peppermint tea or gingerale (yum!) but they make me burpy which in turn makes me nauseous
  • I've found that I can handle yogurt, which is a good source of protein. And also baked potatoes with butter are a saving grace.
    Hang in there mama!!

I second or third the eating every 2 hours or so. I've had a tough time with protein as I am having aversions to some meats and I am allergic to tree nuts.
Cheese sticks, yogurt, peanut butter/peanuts aeem to work as protein sources. I found lately I will eat the ever-living-be-jeebus out of a steak burrito with black beans and hot sauce. Yesterday I used quarter botte of Chalua hot sauce on my burrito... no heart burn fortunately! OH MAN NOW I WANT ONE! ;)
