3rd Trimester

Laughing during pregnancy :)

So not too long ago my sister, husband and I were talking and my husband said something that made me laugh. Afterwards my sister said "you do it too!" And I didn't know what she was talking about but she said she's always noticed with herself (6 kids) and other pregnant women that when they laugh it's much harder and more genuine seeming.
After she said that I noticed it in myself. I've always been a laugher but I DO laugh harder every single time and it's like I have loss of control. It's a much free'er laugh! Obviously not a bad thing but I thought it was interesting and wanted to know if anyone else noticed. I haven't really been around many other pregnant women so I haven't been able to see it with anyone else but my sister says she notices it with all her friends too.
Any thoughts?

  • I would have never noticed this had you not said it! But I agree! I have noticed myself laughing more, or finding more things funny. I'm usually pretty serious and don't find stupid things my husband says funny, but now I do. I was playing cards against humanity with my family (and grandma! Lmao!) and was crying laughing at some of the combos. Like tears were going down my face!

  • I laugh so much more now! Like almost pee my pants hard. And I giggle about random stuff like I've smoked a lot of pot lol. The SO looks at me like I'm crazy a lot. I say it's Better than me being a moody hormonal bitch!
  • I've never really noticed that in myself. Normally, my SO and a few others in my life, always make me laugh. Even pre pregnancy they kept me laughing! So, I'm not sure if I laugh more now since I've been pregnant, or not.

Yeah i get bouts of disproportionate laughter a lot over little amusements (like one day a gif in the Dec 15 board). I say disproportionate because I'll start to laugh and it will just turn into a complete fit. Like, somebody will say "Huh. I forgot to get laundry soap. I'm such a dingus" and I'll lose my shit for 10 minutes over that. And then i always get to the point where i fart and pee myself which just makes the laughing worse. It usually doesn't stop until I laugh myself into a braxton hicks spasm that can catch my attention.

I actually want to at least in part blame this on hormones. If hormones make us miserably emotional, it sort of stands to reason that they would make us giddily emotional too. On normal days (ie: unpregnant days) I was always a laugher but these crazy, uncontrollable fits were very rare and now in the past two weeks, I've had four or five.
  • Lol! I tend to laugh pretty easily anyways but now I just laugh HARD every time like to the point of whistling from my chest
  • I always have been a laugher but I have noticed it too, laughing way harder. I feel bad when I laugh super hard since my bump will sometimes move if I am laughing super hard! Haha but then I can't help but laugh harder.

  • This is definitely one of my pregnancy symptoms! Happened with #1 and is happening now. I'll find something so funny (that is usually not that funny to a normal person) that I can't stop laughing for like 10 mins. I end up crying because I was laughing so hard. I find it so embarrassing especially if I'm in public but DH says he thinks it's cute. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one!

  • I totally thought this was going to be about peeing your pants when laughing. I think once in a while I laugh disproportionately hard but they also almost always wind up in crying and I have to reassure everyone that I'm fine and not upset.

It's always been a thin line for me- laughing REALLY hard and crying but it's funny because in general I cry less now that I'm pregnant than I did before.

I, for the record, do pee my pants every time I laugh

Laughing really hard and crying have always been close companions for me too but it's definitely happening more now that I'm pregnant. I hardly ever cry from sadness these days but either because I laugh too hard or I am moved by something sweet/nice/happy or an animal is especially cute.

I do too. I always fart first and I guess both trying to hold that in and having it blast out causes me to pee.

    because dignity.
