1st Trimester

hungry all the time ?? helppp

Im only 8 weeks pregnant and i feel hungry again every 2 hours or so . I feel like im crazy that its all in my head ! Isnt it a bit early for this?? ... but if i dont eat i feel sick and sometimes lightheaded. How often should i be eating at this point. I dont wanna blow up like a balloon but i also have to eat so i wont be sick. Anyone else experiencing this so early ?

  • Eat small meals throughout the day, every 2 hours is fairly normal. You need to keep your blood sugar levels stable to prevent the nausea. Keep snacks on hand like nuts, fruit, yogurt. As long as you aren't eating huge amounts at every sitting, you should be fine. A lot of first tri is survival; you eat what you can, when you can. Good luck!

I lurk. I snark. I offer sound advice if you're not BSC. You may not like me. I'm okay with it.

I was constantly hungry in the first trimester- but I'm happy to say that as the first trimester nausea started to subside, so did the ravenous hunger. I'm 16.5 weeks along and am back to my normal amount of hunger. My best suggestion is to get yourself some healthy stuff to snack on- carrots, hummus, Greek yogurt, etc. the thing that really helped me is Eating a piece of wheat toast with jelly in between each meal
  • i agree with PP's.
before i even knew i was pregnant (i found out at 6.5 weeks), i was hungry aaaaall the time. it hits some women pretty early! like they suggested, bring snacks with you, & eat smaller meals throughout the day as opposed to having 3 big meals. you'll definitely wanna keep those blood sugar levels up to keep the nausea away.

You need extra calories to make a person. Gaining weight is part of the whole pregnancy gig. Eat to hunger and drink past thirst. More protein. That extra bit of chicken, some extra cream cheese, tofu/beans WHATEVER pack that protein into your snacks.

    My favorites were:
Cottage cheese and celery with raisins
    Apples and peanut butter
    Cheese and crackers
Rotisserie chicken bits with cole slaw.

  • All what pps have said. If you are feeling hungry, you eat. Just make those extra snacks healthy ones, at least most of the time ;) i definitely found that regular snacking over 3 larger meals helped keep hunger away much better.
  • Almost out of the first tri and this is still my story. I am on a 1.5-2 hour feeding schedule and if I don't eat during that time period, there is hell to pay. Literally. I got psychotic one time bc I had to wait until 8pm to eat going out to dinner with family. Very ugly.

Yes, just keep good snacks around. Fruit, nuts, cheese, so you don't reach for junk food (which you might be craving anyway!) I keep prepackaged boxes of stuff at my work.

  • When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was this way. I'd always have little snacks (crackers, fruit, etc.) throughout the day, and I'd take my time eating my main meals. It gets easier once you're out of the first trimester. :)

  • Have more protein (I've been making hard boiled eggs to have on hand in the fridge and spinach salads, sweet potatoes, lots of veggies. Definitely eat a small meal often and as long as it's healthy food like veggies and protein and some whole grains you won't blow up but stay away from too many carbs foods without much nutritious value and processed foods (easier said than done)
  • I would be careful about assuming more calories talk with a doctor about wjat your calorie intake should consist of. But find foods higher in protein. Make smoothies woth frozen fruit little water and greek yogurt, try protein bars or garnola bars with high protein, find healthy garnola yogurt snacks. Also i bake a bunch of chicken breast at once and eat them with everything through out my week...toss in Salads , rice, lunch wraps, and anything else its healthy and good protein source. Be careful being hungry all the time those empty calories are tempting but are going to make you bloat and gain some weight if you give into them plus they won't fill you up. Its okay to be hungry and eat but the healthier and higher in protein the longer you'll stay full and better you'll feel.
