Mom of the Year

So today, I managed to eat a whole deli sandwich before realizing I shouldn't be eating it. I decluttered my kitchen counters and realized I haven't been taking my prenatal in who knows how long. On top of that I heard my two year old calling the dogs stupid because that's what I've been calling them all week (because they are, in fact, stupid). Totally winning the mom game today. How about the rest of y'all?

Re: Mom of the Year

  • I'm glad you are normal :) Sounds like you are a good mum, so don't sweat the small stuff. I regularly am a "great" mum with some of fails I have but from what I've seen, heard and been told etc we are the normal - ignore society's idea of the "perfect" mum they don't exist and if they did their children would be far from a rounded individual! Enjoy and don't worry about it - we can only ever try our best xxx

  • I eat lunch meat almost every day so you're doing better than me on that front!

  • My almost 1 year old has a bruise down the side of his face, from his eyebrow down his cheek... he looks like Scar from The Lion King. Wall- 1, Kiddo- 0.
  • @kristanoah calling your dogs stupid is nothing compared to some of the names I've been calling mine... Glad my little guy isn't repeating the names yet.
  • Wait it's all lunch meats?! I was under the impression it was just cured meats like salami and bologna. In that case...oops
  • I've been making sure that i cook mine. You'll be fine.

  • Ha - I've been eating lunch meats this entire pregnancy. Didn't really agree with the reasoning why we shouldn't eat them. They're worried about Listeria but my OB is completely fine with the amount of blue bell I've put away this pregnancy.

  • I was admitted to hospital this week for a few days, and they served me deli meat sanwitches... I just ate them... I know there is always a risk but hey- I was already at the hospital!
  • I eat all the un-heated lunch meats, just found my lost (for over a month) bottle of prenatals, and my dog gets called far worse than stupid lately and my 14month old tries to repeat it.  The dog really is a moron though.

You sound completely normal to ME!

  • @BarrettJ89 and @GAgirlinSDakota I have been calling my dogs far worse also, I'm glad he's ONLY repeating stupid for now.

  • I ate a turkey club today for lunch and I enjoyed every bite.
  • When I see those "perfect moms" I can't help but wonder if they're like the woman from that movie Mommy Dearest.

I think if that's all you've done wrong, and you're feeling bad about that, you're probably a pretty good mom. Just the fact that you stop to reflect on and judge your parenting shows how much you care.
  • Stupid doesn't even come close to what we call our cats on a regular basis... Definitely going to have to watch that once LO gets here... And I haven't taken a prenatal since week 14 because they all made me throw up. I think you're doing just fine!
  • I've been eating lunch meat, too. Eat the meat!

  • Lunch meat is our friend. Lol... And believe me when I say our almost 18 year jack Russel (average 13 life expectancy) being slightly dead and blind, as well as having selective incontinence (she can hold it all night in her new kennel) and a stubborn streak, is SO much more than stupid. Of course calling her names is pointless... She can't hear me! My kids love her, so we are waiting for signs she's IN pain, and not just BEING one... And remember, good parents question their imperfections, actions, and decisions. It is only when you stop questioning if you
  • I don't eat meat that much but now I want chicken sandwich from Tom tumb. And for my prenatal I took every day with my first pregnancy and this time around I try to give them try every now and then but without any success I am giving up on them and my iron tablets hopefully everything come up normal. Those prenatal make me sick. And we don't have any dogs and cats and I made myself to watch my language only problem is I let my son to watch I pad more than he used to be for my comfort I m feeling bad for that.
  • Ugh, prenatal vitamins suck. My doctor gave me the side eye for a while when I told him I'd be doing flinstone gummies and folic acid instead but now seems to be on board with it. I worry about the amount of screen time my son gets and feel totally and completely guilty for not getting down on the floor to play with him when he asks but I just can't be on the floor, it is SO uncomfortable and just not an option. And it makes him sad which makes my guilt even worse. On these days I feel like a terrible selfish mom.
  • I have been drinking Coke's throughout my pregnancy. It settles my stomach and is a HUGE craving for me. In fact, I had two yesterday. I felt horrible about it at first. But then I compared that to how much water I drink and I feel less guilty. Lol
  • @maddisonwallace same. Coke is my greatest joy this pregnancy; I don't know what I would do without it.

  • My last pregnancy, Pepsi couldn't have been any better. In a can. Nothing has compared since.
  • I almost never drink coke, but this pregnancy has had me drinking quite a few! I've also been guilty of the semi regular coffee from DDs and Starbucks, though I usually ask for decaf.

No regrets on having my steaks cooked medium instead of well done, either.

I think we'll be fine, no such thing as a perfect parent, and I doubt a perfect parent would make a truly well rounded child either.
  • All I've wanted for the past 4 months is a cold cut combo sandwich from subway.

Also, as a mom, you sound like you're doing fine to me!

  • When I was pregnant with my son, I worked at a summer camp and had subway pretty much daily for lunch. He turned out just fine. My doctor kind of laughed when I asked about it. Most deli meats are cooked... for example, we buy ham and turkey for sandwiches all the time, but they are "pan seared" or "honey smoked" or whatever. My doctor said it just makes for big, strong babies.
Oh, and @kristanoah kiddo STILL has the bruise down his face, it's just darker now.
  • I think my LO is going to be traumatized by the amount I have been yelling at my dogs.. "Get on the bed and lie down" is going to be his comfort lullaby. Poor kid.
  • @GAgirlinSDakota you can always tell the waitresses that have had kids when you are clearly pregnant and order a steak/burger/whatever that is anything but "well done." I've had so many look at me appalled... Shut up and tell the chef to throw the cow on the plate, still moo-ing!

Yep.  Luckily, I rarely eat steak when out.  SO's family raises beef cattle, and his uncle is a butcher.  We have a few breeder cattle on the ranch his cousin runs (grandpa owns) and every year we pick out a 1yr old heifer to feed/condition to become beef when she turns 2.  Delicious and I know exactly where it came from and what it was fed.

But woe unto the person who EVER tells me what I can and can't eat.  Except my doctor.  I'll take recommendations from him.

  • Ugh. I'm back at it... today is my little man's first birthday! Hurray! The last two nights, he's puked his brains out, but acted completely normal otherwise. Last night, he woke up screaming in pain, holding his ears after being down less than 2 hours (after puking and the awful clean up). So we spent his birthday at the pediatrician's office... He has a "Really nasty, bad, bad, bad double ear infection." So I feel absolutely awful... tonight, I realize I'm now completely out of Motrin and have less than one dose left of Tylenol. Awesome... Grandma to the rescue.
  • Well I am a bad parent as at 5pm today I realised that other than the morning nappy change my daughter hadn't been changed all day (been out and about and then she was sleeping for ages and ages). I feel like an awful mother & I'm beating myself up about it :( The worst part is I did think about doing it but then she was asleep so o decided to leave her. Poor little girl - although luckily no soreness despite a massive poo and pee!
