Pregnant with copper IUD

in 1st Trimester
I am 26, married and have 2 beautiful children. A 6 year old boy and a little girl that will be 8 months old tomorrow!
7 weeks after I had my daughter I had a copper IUD placed, my OB mentioned that my uterus is the longest it could be and still have an IUD placed.
My last period started on Halloween, and now I'm 3 days late... I took a pregnancy test and its positive. Obviously I will be putting in a call to my OB tomorrow morning.
I was just wondering if anyone has had a healthy, full term baby with an IUD in?

    Hello,

    My brother was conceived when my mom had a copper IUD.

    She had a healthy pregnancy and my brother, now a full grown adult, was (and is) perfectly fine. The IUD came out with the afterbirth.

    One of my close friends got pregnant on a copper IUD not once, but twice!

    Edit: I should mention both her girls are healthy and beautiful and went full term. I wouldn't worry too much. Just talk to your doctor about it asap

    Both of my younger sisters pregnancies started with copper iuds in place, although she had hers removed both times. Where we are they usually remove them but maybe where you are they give you the option to leave them in?

    I was conceived when my mom had a copper IUD. :blush:

    I am a 28 y/o healthy (pregnant) woman. Full term baby, didn't have issues while in mom's womb or while growing up.

    My mom had the IUD removed as soon as she knew she was pregnant. But I agree with the ladies here; talk to your doctor to evaluate your options.

    I must say I am curious about the "leaving it in" option...I guess I'll do some research

    My goodness I'm reading this because less than an hour ago I told my friend I'm pregnant and we ended up discussing that she has copper iud, I'm gonna have to show her this haha!

    While they may have the less amount of failure rate I hear more and more of pregnancies with an iud in place. I personally had an ectopic pregnancy with one.

    That is called anecdotal evidence.  Aka, "well, I know some one that did jumping jack right after sex and got pregnant".

    You may hear more, just because people are more verbal about it.  Condoms works about 70-80%, BC pills are 75-85%, nuva ring is about 85%, and IUI and implants (long acting reversible contraceptive aka LARCs) are 98% effective.

    google the St. Louis "CHOICE" project. It it the largest study regarding birth control with over 10k participants.

    My MSN thesis is based on preventing unwanted pregnancy. I have already wrote about 35 pages of research information, and I am no where near done.

    Honestly I wasn't trying to get into a whole, Google this, I'm writing a thesis, anecdotal evidence debate or conversation. My initial comment was just a giggle comment (hence the wink) and the follow-up was my personal experience with an iud. Good luck on your paper though and thanks for all the info.
