New here- Frustration with pregnancy tests!

Hi everyone,
I've been reading all the posts lately about people who had IUIs who got to test this week- they have kept me going! Congrats to all who got BFPs. I had my 2nd iui 2 weeks ago after TTC for 2+ yrs and my test day was today. I caved and tested at 13dpiui in the evening on a FRER line test and got a VERY faint positive. Took a second one this morning (14dpiui) with FMU and the line got darker! DH and I are cautiously excited Bc the first and only other time we have seen a BFP it ended up a chemical after a couple weeks. That being said, he told me to get a different type of test so I got the First Response Gold digital. Took it tonight expecting to see a BFP and it said "NO-". Ugh!!!!
Any experiences with this? Thanks! Good luck to all

  • Some tests pick up lower or higher levels. You may just have a low number right now and some won't pick up on that.
  • Loading the player...
  • Digitals required higher levels of HCG than the regular line tests
  • I third what was said . Check each test to see what the Hcg level threshold is . If its super early you won't register on all tests ! I think most I have purchased don't pick up before an Hcg level of 25 . If the line is getting darker I would take that as a good sign :) are you going in for bloodwork ? That's the best way of knowing! Keep us posted !!!! :)

This website lists Hcg levels required for positive results on various test types and brands . I found this helpful when my lines were faint !!

  • I'm debating to buy a test time and was wondering the best test. Although my DH says to wait till the doctor tells me to come if period does not come. Does anyone else's DH like this about buying tests

Thanks everyone. I have a message in to my doctor so hopefully they will get me in tomorrow for blood work. No sign of AF yet, but I've taken a couple more line tests since i first posted this and they are definite "squinters" if you know what I mean. I've heard that a positive is a positive no matter how dark but it certainly doesn't make a girl feel good!
  • @ultratomato, I can only say that I've learned to overcome my obsession with peeing on sticks.  It's too much disappointment.  I'd rather wait until AF is late, or a beta if my doctor is doing one.

And I already imagine that if my doctor has me come in for a beta, I'm going to ask them to call my wife with the results.  I don't want to get bad news on a phone call in the middle of the work day.

@AS33, if you're getting squinters, then things are looking really good for you.

Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • Update: just got a call from my doctor's office that my hcg level is only a 10 ☹ they said it should've been over 100 by now. I'm going back Wednesday for a follow up but most likely this one will end in another chemical probably. Guess that's why the digi's didn't pick it up. So frustrating!! Hopefully something will work soon.
Thanks for the support and GL to others waiting to test!!
