Cyst on Ovary, anyone else?

Hi ladies,

I am 8 weeks and at my first midwife appt last week they said I have a 4cm cyst on one of my ovaries.  I know this is normal for the first part of a pregnancy.  But I had one last spring which got so big I had an ovarian torsion and had to have emergency surgery which then led to a miscarriage.  I know my situation was very very rare... but, I was curious since I now find myself with another cyst with this new pregnancy, how many other people out there have had their Drs tell them that they have a cyst as well? And how big are they?  Have you encountered any complications from them? If so, what?

Thanks!

Re: Cyst on Ovary, anyone else?

  • I'm sorry for your previous loss. The cyst that resulted in torsion must have been extremely painful.

I was also diagnosed with an ovarian cyst at about 5 weeks due to sharp pains localized to my right side, though mine was/is smaller. I had a followup u/s at 7 weeks, and nothing was worrisome at that time.

Hope all goes well for you!

  • Hi there ! At the hospital when i found out i was having a miscarriage they told me i had two ovarian cysts one on each side . One was 7cm and the other was 6 cm. I have been told you can go on to have a healthy pregnancy with them though. But may cause more pain . Keep an eye on it if you are noticing anything more severe or if you have any questions ask your obgyn maybe it will put you more at ease . Sorry for your loss <3 i hope all goes exremely well .
  • I'm so sorry for your loss.
I had 2 cysts last pregnancy, one a golf ball and the other a orange and neither complicated my pregnancy. I believe they were absorbed and just went away - truthfully, they may have removed them during my c-section. I was just so happy to have a healthy baby I didn't ask.

  • I have a cyst. At my first check up it was 6cm and two weeks later it had gone down to 4cm so I'm hoping it will just continue to go down itself
  • Yep, had one at my 5 week ultrasound. Was mostly gone at my 6week, 2 day ultrasound. Doc said its not a big deal.
  • I had my first ultrasound yesterday at 5 weeks 2 days. Gestational sac is a great size but she also noticed a 2.5 cm cyst on my left ovary that she said shouldn't cause any issues and will go away in its own

  • I went to the doctor at 7 weeks as well and was told I had a cyst. But my doctor said it's totally normal. That like the hormone confirming your pregnant if that makes sense. If your still worried let he or she check again to make sure it's not detrimental to you or the babies health. Best of luck.
  • My cyst was actually the reason I found out I am pregnant! I was less than 4 weeks along and having really terrible episodic pelvic pain and cramping. I went to my general practitioner who ordered all kinds of GI related tests, none of which told us anything. My husband and I decided to take a home pregnancy test just to see....and it was a BFP! then the worry began about ectopic because of all of the pain. Well, ultrasounds show healthy baby and a large cyst that seems to be resolving on its own :)
