Favorite Prenatal Vitamins

What's your favorite prenatal vitamin?

I feel like I've tried almost every prenatal out there. It took until baby #3 to find the combo that worked for me. My favorites hands down are the Bellybar Prenatal Chewables. My favorite DHA supplement is Vitamin World's DHA soft gels.

I couldn't deal with the standard swallow pills; I felt like I gagged every time I tried to take them. I tried the gummy vitamins but the fish aftertaste really got to me in my 2nd pregnancy.

  • I've been taking the target gummy. They seem to be ok and I don't handle fish at all. Can't even eat it.

  • I take the generic gummy ones. I've tried a few others and i always wind up in the bathroom 8x a day...

  • Right now I'm taking some CVS off brand prenatal soft gels with DHA added. There's no fish added to those. They don't seem to bother me at all yet. They're long pills, but the fact that they're the soft gels makes them easier to swallow.
  • I take my normal multi vitamins and add in an extra B that makes up the necessary folic acid needs. My family is really big into a wholistic company called Shaklee and we get all of our vitamins (and baby wash/lotion, cleaning supplies, etc) from there. I love their vitamins and they're incredibly thorough with the types of ingredients they use.

My last pregnancy I had to switch to gummies for a couple of weeks though because of morning sickness. Swallowing pills just wasn't an option.

  • I'm taking the first response prenatal gummies. They taste good and I notice no aftertaste.

  • I was taking vitamin code raw prenatal, as I really wanted a whole food based vitamin. But my doc gave me this citral vitamin with two extra B vitamin pills to try to see if it helped the MS. Today will be day three of that and I do think it's helping some, so we'll see.

  • I was having serious bloat problems, so my doctor gave me some CitraNatal vitamins that help with bloat and so far so good!

  • I take Thorne Research Prenatal. I have MTHFR so I need to steer clear of folic acid. I have to have L-methyl folate so that my body can metabolize the folate properly. I also take a methyl B-complex, an extra folate, CoQ10, Fish Oil, and trace minerals. these are all taken to avoid blood clots and neural tube defects.
  • Generic gummies because I'm a total child. The ones I take have added DHA. Gummies don't have iron but I already took a supplement for that.

  • Target brand! I take them at night and have never had stomach issues.
  • I have both New Chapter Perfect Prenatal and Rainbow Light Prenatal One. I've been favoring the New Chapter ones for a bit.

  • Vitafusion prenatal gummies.... Because I have to satisfy my inner kidult. Lol. I can't handle anything with any extra iron and I can't deal with a fishy aftertaste. These are yummy and perfect!
  • Turns out I just read mine contain fish oil but I have absolutely no aftertaste.... I didn't even realize it.
  • I've been taking the Women's One-A-Day Prenatal + DHA, but only for three days, since I found out I was pregnant. I take them with a snack in the evening. No complaints so far!

  • I take The Honest Co. Prenatals and DHA. I've been taking them for a while and haven't had any problems.
  • Target brand prenatals and Sundown fish oil - no issues with either!

I love my VirtPrex!! I like that it includes plenty of iron, folic acid, and DHA all in one so I don't have to take multiple vitamins every day.

I use "source of life Prenatal" vitamins. They're vegetarian, gluten free, and have more than the required amount of each essential vitamin. They are large gross pills though, made from whole food concentrate.

i started off with olly's prenatal gummies while ttc, but switched to smartypants when i got my bfp- just in case i fall into the population percentage with risky alleles for the MTHFR gene.

thanks for the heads up on the iron deficiency- i'll have to find a supplement for that since my gummies don't contain iron.
  • I've tried a few and found the best (for me at least) is fabfol. I tried elevit and found that I was getting not enough folic acid and, vitamins & minerals I didn't need.
  • Ive found that fabfol is the best (for me anyway). Has all the right nutrients, it isn't a gummy, I decided against gummies and my doctor said if morning sickness isn't bad, just take tablets. I did try elevit, but I found (from research) that it doesn't contain enough folic acid and some unnecessary vitamins & minerals.

I am also on a really intense iron tablet (prescribed) as my blood work came back as iron deficient.
  • Garden of life! Although I'll have to double check because I think I'll need an iron supplement.

I tried a generic prenatal (Wegmans) back when we first started trying, but I realized that my normal multivitamin had more stuff in it than the prenatal (including 400mg of folic acid). So, now I'm taking a multivitamin, an extra 400mg of folic acid, calcium+d, vitamin d, vitamin c, and fish oil.

Looking online, I might be stopping the vitamin c supplements tonight...
  • You all may want to research why a whole food raw vitamin is infinitely better than a synthetic vitamin. Basically all those chemically mad vitamins are not easy for your body to absorb and use so you ultimately pee them out.
  • @DisneyIsabelle interesting. Know of any good ones?
  • I am taking Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal with a DHA supplement. I'm not normally a "crunchy" mom, but after doing some research I like that these are whole food, with folate (instead of folic acid) and the vitamin A is beta carotene (as opposed to the retinyl). They also contain probiotics and ground ginger, and I can spread them out during the day so I don't get sick. I'm not sure what combo helps keep them down, but it's working.

I had terrible MS my last pregnancy and couldn't take anything, so I'm glad I found a system that works for me.

  • @bonella99 where did you buy them.
  • @ThePax89 I bought a large bottle on Amazon for $32- I think it is 2 or 3 months worth, so not too bad. They are also available at Vitamin World, but much more $$. Here's the link (looks like the price went up a bit, I do subscribe and save).

  • My favorite is the prescription that my doctor gave me. It's called VitaPearl. What's nice is that even if your insurance doesn't cover them, the company gives them to you for $25 a month. They have everything you need in one gel tablet and the iron is slow release so it hasn't made me sick.

  • After a lot of research I also chose the same as bonella99 and purchased on Amazon. I'm usually not so good at regularly taking things but these I've been perfect about starting a month before we got pregnant. It's the garden of life vitamin code prenatal and the same brand dha called ocean's mother @ThePax89 also it has a ginger root blend in it for anti nausea

@ThePax89 The New Chapter Perfect Prenatal is also whole foods. You need to take 3 of the slim tabs. They are small enough that I take them all at once but it also allows you to spread it out over the day with each meal (or 1 at lunch, 2 at dinner) if you wanted. https://www.amazon.com/New-Chapter-Perfect-Prenatal-Multivitamin/dp/B003DGZRNS

Looks like these are also whole foods based:

  • I've been taking AdvoCare's Coreplex w/ iron and Omegaplex(fish oil). Great quality, safe and I love it!!

This exactly! My raw vitamin doesn't change my pee color whereas I notice with synthetic ones it does.

There has only been one I can take - It's called "Mamalicious" and its a shake. I mix it with almond milk. It's stupidly expensive, but seems to be the only one that works.
I have a deathly allergy to carrots, and most of the prenatals I found have A from beta carotene. I also take DHA on the side, and b12, since I don't eat meat.
