Prayers Please...Our Sweet Dog is Gone *Possible Trigger??*

Some of you may remember a little over a month ago I posted that our 3 year old bloodhound Gus had been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and given approximately 6 months to live. Yesterday when I got home from work I looked out the back door to check on him and he appeared to be asleep in his favorite spot in the sunshine. I thought nothing of it because he is asleep in that spot every afternoon. When I went to bring him in the for the night a couple hours later, he was still in the same spot and we realized he was gone. DH (with a pulled muscle in his back) and me (with a migraine) were our digging a grave and burying him until 11:00 last night. We are both so heartbroken and not looking forward to explaining this to DD last night. We weren't ready to say goodbye and didn't expect it for several more months. We were expecting to at least have him for one more Christmas and now our house just feels empty. I know that it may seem ridiculous to be so distraught over a dog to some but this sweet baby was a part of our family and prayers to get through this would be greatly appreciated.

    I am so sorry to hear this :( Our dog is like family also, so I can imagine how painful it is for you. Thoughts and prayers to you lady.

    I am so sorry to hear this. It is absolutely not ridiculous to love your dog, and be heartbroken when you lose them. They're family.

    It sounds like your dog passed peacefully, in his favorite spot warm in the sun. Sending hugs.

    I am so sorry for your loss! My sweet dog from childhood fell asleep in the sunlight and didnt wake up as well. Part of me found peace knowing that he had left this earth very happy and warm, basking in the light.

    I'm so sorry. Our dog is apart of our family too and I'm dreading the day he passes. He's only 1 so we have a lot of time, hopefully. I'm more worried about my husband than myself. He loves our dog so much and this is his first pet (other than fish). I grew up with pets so even though when they die it's very sad, at least I have that experience. My family's cat that we got when I was 13 is still alive (I'm 33), so she's like a miracle cat.

    I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a dog is like losing a member of the family. We lost our dog a little over 2 years ago. She had a problem with a disc in her neck but we weren't expecting her to pass away either. We found her in the backyard laying in her favorite spot. I had some guilt over her being alone when she passed and us not being able to say goodbye. I hope you find some comfort in knowing he isn't suffering anymore. Sending prayers for you and your family.

    So very sorry to hear this.  My pups are my kids and that's an all too familiar pain, so hard to go through but what a peaceful, calm way to leave this world.  Lots of prayers for you and your family.

    I'm so sorry for your loss. Our dogs are a part of our family too, and I understand how hard it is to lose them. Like others have said, know that he was in a sunny place he loved. T&P to you as you remember your beautiful dog.

    So sorry. I always think bloodhounds are so sweet. My dog is getting to her senior years and it's sad to imagine our family without her.

    So sorry. I lost a dog just a few days before Christmas once and it was awful. I won't lie, that was not the best Christmas we've had. It's so so sad to lose a pet, they are family members. I know nothing I say really helps, but sending love anyway. Try and find some comfort in the fact that he was so loved and lived a wonderful life, and when he did go it was in his favourite spot. Hugs.

    I agree that it is not at ALL ridiculous to grieve the loss of a beloved pet.  We lost our beagle to leukemia while I was pregnant with DD and it was devastating. I still miss him very much.  I wish you comfort and peace.  It's such a difficult thing to go through.

    This made me tear up. I am so sorry for you loss. Animals become family so easily and it is just devestating having to let them go. It sounds as if he was very peaceful in his favorite spot under the sunshine. My thoughts are with you and your family.

    I am so so sorry to hear your news. It is far from ridiculous to feel heartbroken. Dogs become part of our families and take a piece of our hearts when they leave us. I know a bit of how you feel, we lost our sweet little chihuahua two days after getting our BFP in October. It was a really emotional time. We had really thought we would have more time with her too, but the one thing I can be grateful for is that she went downhill quickly and didn't suffer long.

    Thank you everybody for the sweet words. It's been a tough weekend. The cancer diagnosis was a huge blow since he was so young but we never expected him to go so soon. The past week he had been acting like he felt better so finding him was an absolute shock. It's hard knowing that when I out out our Christmas stockings, I won't get to put his out. I can only be grateful that he died napping in the sunshine before the disease put him in serious pain and that we didn't ever have to make the decision to put him down.
