What happened to the Fit Mama weekly check-in thread?

Where are my fellow exercising mamas at? LOL!

I am 13 weeks today and have managed to keep up my routine of exercising 4-5 days a week. I work out at home with videos. I'm doing a hybrid of Turbofire and ChaLean Extreme which is cardio and strength training and I have modified quite a bit since my BFP. I recently decreased my max weight to 10 lb dumbells because of the conflicting information I was reading online about weight lifting. I was doing up to 17.5lb dumbells for lower body exercises previously. I told my OB that I do cardio and she just told me not to train for a marathon or lose a lot of weight but didn't give me any real specific dos and don'ts. I think I will ask again at my next appointment on Tuesday.

Re: What happened to the Fit Mama weekly check-in thread?

  • I do mostly weightlifting. Up until last week I was seriously lacking most of my energy and my workouts were less than stellar. I managed to get in 2-3 days of lifting each week. Now that I'm heading in the second tri, I feel my energy coming back finally. I'm back to 4-5 days of lifting, and am pretty active most days of the week.

My OB told me to continue doing what I have been, but just listen to my body. If I get dizzy or overly out of breath, I stop. I don't go for PR's anymore, but I listen to my body and lift what feels comfortable. As far as cardio goes, I don't do long distance running by any means. I usually incorporate things like burpees, mountain climbers, box jumps and plyometrics into my lifting sessions to get my cardio in. No marathons for me lol

  • I have been slacking,  I try to get to the gym at least once a week -- compared to the 6-7 days of working out before.  To be honest,  between the cold weather,  and work making me bananas,  I've been using pregnancy as an excuse to take it easy and spend some quality time on the couch.

I need to get my motivation back!

I'm finally getting my energy back and able to make it to the gym regularly again! My doctor said I could continue what I was doing pre-pregnancy so I have kept the amount I'm lifting the same. Except I don't do super heavy deadlifts because the back pain has already started. I did go for a bench press PR on Wednesday. Didn't get it but I guess that's to be expected! My body is working harder than usual all day long!
  • I was all abut this thread the first few weeks, but then MS hit me like a freight train, getting back up to my normal 5-6x's a week though at much less intensity. I lowered my weights to 8-10lbs as well, still keeping up the burpees and planks for most of my workout but pretty much modifying everything. It's been a toy pill to swallow to slow down so much, but I keep telling myself that being active is good no matter what, deep sigh:)

  • I've been majorly slacking... Opting for extra sleep over 4:30am workouts. But, I'm getting back on track! Probably.

  • I'm also slacking.  I was a gym goer anywhere from 5-7 times a week. MS hit me HARD from weeks 8 to just now (week 13).  I plan on getting back to the gym next week as the nauseau is starting to subside a little.  My eating for the last week and a half has been terrible too...I really need to get back on it.

I need this thread.  I could not believe my eyes when I saw the scale at my appt today.  I have gained a lot more weight than I thought.  I've just started doing some prenatal yoga and a SUPER annoying Denise Austin "2nd trimester toning" thing I found on YouTube while my DD is at preschool in the mornings three days a week. I'd like to go back to running, which I did once upon a time. The doctor said it was okay, it's just making the time...and finding the energy, and sticking with it.  So...I want to join you guys and try to be more fit.  Edited to add: once my neck feels better, that is.  Until then, I'm taking it easy.

  • I finally got the go ahead to get back into my lifting today! Woo! I'll start up Sunday but was cleared to do whatever weight I felt comfortable with as I have been lifting heavy consistently for so long. All about listening to your body. Just hope my breathing holds up, I'm always out of breath!
  • I was doing taekwondo every day for a while and burned myself right out. Had black belt testing just about 2 weeks ago and have scaled waaaaay back since then, only really working out once a week. I need to find something challenging but sustainable...I'm thinking of trying Bikini Body Mommy's pregnancy series. I've done her challenges before and got pretty good results. Just not feeling up to actually going to the gym...
  • Do you find that online @Emztron500?? And it's OK to start while pregnant? I've been doing T25 for a year, so burnt out but I muster thru it, plus it's at home so zero excuses while DS naps

  • @Wyattnash00 yup it's just bikinibodymommy.com, she's got multiple workout programs but she's currently pregnant and has been creating a pregnancy-specific workout program as she goes. You can just jump in for whatever week you're at and the workouts will be modified for pregnancy and she'll actually be just as pregnant as you in the video too :)
  • @emztron500 are you going to do the free ones on Bikini Body Mommy, or will you spring for the premium to do the pregnancy workouts? I just popped over to the website because this sort of thing looks like it's my speed.

premium is like $1.99 so I'm just gonna go for it. I've done the free ones and they can be modified but I think it'll be fun doing the pregnancy-specific ones.
