Progesterone shots to stop pre- erm labor?

This is my 3rd pregnancy. My ob is pretty certain I was going into pre-term labor my last pregnancy, which caused my uterus to thin and start to tear along the first c/s scar.

In order to attempt to get me to 37 weeks, he's starting weekly progesterone shots after Christmas. I was curious if any others have had to do this or if anyone will also be getting weekly injections? If you've had them, were they successful? Any side effects?

  • I started going into labor at 29 and 32. I got weekly progesterone and made it to 39+1 when I had to be induced.

  • My preceptor has 2 kids and one on the way. Their first baby was really early so with the second they did weekly progesterone shots and her last was at 36 weeks and she went into labor a week later. I believe they're doing the same thing with this pregnancy
  • I'm on progesterone now. I had a lot of spotting so they did a blood test and my level was low so could cause miscarriage. She said she will discuss further at my 12 week appt as to whether I need to continue it for the rest of the pregnancy.

  • I am 13 weeks and on twice weekly shots (since week 5) and they just added nightly vaginal suppositories this week. I had a very low level initially (6) that seemed to be climbing but fell at my last blood draw. I will likely continue with shots throughout my pregnancy. They aren't the worst. It is definitely annoying and I have had some soreness in my legs especially the first few weeks but I have gotten used to it. Are you going to administer them yourself or is your doctor going to do it?
  • I think the doctor was going to do it, but I work with a bunch of nurses who are capable of doing it once a week.

  • My son was born at 35 weeks, so I'll likely be having weekly shots starting in a few weeks. At my last regular OB appointment with the NP, she started the conversation (I anticipated that they'd recommend it) and I'll be discussing it as well as costs, etc. at my next appt in a few weeks with the doctor.

  • I was just told by my OB today that she recommends progesterone injections for me starting in the next few weeks. I am waiting on a phone consultation with an MFM before I start. My son was born at 34+6 due to PPROM and chorioamnioitis.
