Crib bumper

Ever since LO started rolling around in her crib she gets her legs stuck in between the bars. I've been told countless times your no longer allowed to have bumpers. But I'm so terrified that's she's going to break her leg or arms.

Re: Crib bumper

  • My pediatrician told me the same thing but I al also concerned about this. My mom told me my brother and I had it in our crib and she would check we were fine. I also have friends who use them

  • We had to start using a mesh one. I was really against it until one night she stuck her leg through 4 times in one night. Since we haven't had any problems.

I really won't use a solid one. I honestly don't know what they are even made still.
  • I used one with my son (who is now 6) and felt fine about it since he was a pretty calm baby but LO is more of a mover and is all over the crib. She has put her legs/arms through but I can totally see her getting her head in between a bumper if one was there. I'd obviously rather her break a bone than suffocate so I'm leaving it as is, no bumper.
  • My DD hasn't started rolling in the night yet. But, my OB said that bumpers are a no-no UNTIL babies can roll over. After that, they are OK.
  • We're leaving it sans bumper, but I hate it every time I hear him kick the sides. On a side note, if you (like me) purchased them with your bedding because so they were so stinking cute only to be told to take them off, they do make nice window valences :)

That's such a good idea!! Thank you!
  • Well I'll ask my LO Doctor. Right now we have one on the side not facing the wall. DH facined it so she can't take it off or get stuck in it. Last night I was awoken to her screaming, she had her whole left leg stuck between the crib and the wall. It was really stuck. I was scared she broke it with how bad she was crying even after I got her unstuck and in my arms. She finally calmed down and DH felt her leg and she seemed fine. But it really bothered us. He's wanting to bumper the whole crib.
  • They aren't going to break a limb if it gets stuck in the side rails. I'd rather my baby cry because they're stuck than not make a noise because they suffocated. Even the mesh bumpers aren't recommended.

  • Have you tried sleep sacks? I think they are what's keeping my son from getting his leg between the rails.
  • Agree with @krissyberb we have our baby in a sleep sack!
