Re: 12/3 Thursday Ticker Change

  • Week/Fruit: 18 weeks/ Sweet potato

Rants: I'm not so excited that I seem to be in the third of women whose asthma worsens s little in pregnancy. Last time I lucked out and it got better.  I have nesting energy, but I feel like by the time I get home from work; get dinner on, eaten, and cleaned up; play with DS and get DS to bed I have very little energy to actually do the cleaning/organizing I had planned. Plus, it's usually around 8:30 by that point. I'm really looking forward to some days of so I can use naptime to get things done-- and of course then I'll get to play with DS the rest of the day : ).
Raves: Loving the baby kicks! I'm excited to be around the time when baby can hear too.

Upcoming appointments: December 17th for the anatomy scan! I'm so excited to see LO again. Hopefully he/she is developing well and is healthy still. I also hope we can see which sex the baby.

Questions for the Group: Since DH is starting a new job, he probably won't be able to come to the anatomy scan, which is understandable, but frustrating. He still wants me to find out the sex of the baby so that the sonographer can point everything out to me, just like with other important aspect of health. I'm trying to decide how to tell him that evening. I want to make it special since I'd rather find out together, but I also know that he's not generally into huge, cheesy gestures. I thought about picking up either a Daddy's girl/Daddy's boy sort of onesie -- or something little brother/little sister-- after I find out since my appointment is first thing in the morning. I don't know if I'll have time to do a reveal cake unless I bake it myself. Any ideas?

Not unless a Pinterest board counts! We still only have 2 bedrooms, so for now baby will be sharing space with us, and closet/storage space with DS. (It was planned this way...but still a bit stressful to consider at times.) We'll do a nursery when baby is a little older and we have an extra bedroom.

Rants: my pooping schedule is terrible
Raves: I think I'm starting to get a bump :)

Appointment December 10, then we schedule the anatomy scan!!!

Questions: my sister and I just walked through babies r us last night and I was surprised how short the cribs seemed. I'm 5'11' and my husband is 6'. Does anyone know if they make cribs that are taller so we won't have to bend over so much?

GTKY: we haven't really started the nursery yet. My husband is building a wall in the basement so I can move my craft room and we will make the craft room the baby room and turn the guest bedroom into an office with a bed. Then we have to convince the dogs that staying in the basement is going to be fun because their cages are also getting kicked out of the craft room

@EErin86I've heard that Bellini cribs are a bit taller than usual (meaning the mattress is higher up); you might want to look into those. They also make crib risers that attach to the bottom of the crib, but I'm honestly not sure what sort of safety ratings those products have. Really, when the baby is young, the mattress will be on a high setting so it's not too far to bed over. By the time the mattress is on the lowest setting, everyone has to more or less bend in half to reach the bottom. By that point, baby can stand to help you reach him/her better when getting the baby out.

You probably shouldn't go with any of the Baby Europa styles as they sit lower to the floor than the average crib, but have average mattress-to-rail heights. I'm short (5'2'') and DH is tall (6'6'') so finding a crib we were both comfortable with was difficult. Ultimately, we went with a shorter one since I was the one lifting in and out the most.

If both you and your husband are tall, you may easily end up with a tall baby as well-- it's something to consider when choosing a crib; the mattress to top of rail measurement is very important once the baby is old enough to stand. DS is tall and was able to climb out of his crib by 11 months with an average-measuring crib.
  • Week/Fruit: 15/orange

Rants/Raves: Daily nosebleeds are getting so old! And it doesn't help that I've had a bad cold for the last week and a half and can't stop coughing a nasty wet productive cough!

Upcoming appointments: Today! In the waiting room.

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: Have you started on the nursery yet? No. My SIL is living with us, in the room that will be the nursery. We ordered a crib on Cyber Monday and I guess it's going in the storage building out back until she moves out. DH and I talked about it last night abs decided to tell her Feb 1 is her eviction date. We still have to paint in there too!

  • Week/Fruit: 16 weeks, avocado

Rants/Raves: Morning sickness seems to be lessening but not totally gone away. I'm still feeling really anxious about the pregnancy.

Upcoming appointments: I had an appointment today. They couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler. Very stressful. Luckily, they were able to squeeze us in for an ultrasound and everything was fine with the baby. They couldn't see the sex but I was just so relieve to hear the heartbeat.

Questions for the Group: Has anyone else been recommended to take low dose aspirin?

GTKY: Have you started on the nursery yet? Not at all.

Rants/Raves: my favorite part of pregnancy has got to be the laughter. Once I start laughing I can't stop and out of all the ways to feel, I think that's a pretty fun one!

Upcoming appointments: we have the anatomy scan this Monday! Then I have my monthly appt the next day.

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: Have you started on the nursery yet? No, we made an offer on a house tonight so we won't be doing anything for awhile. I've got a Pinterest board full of ideas for when that time comes though!

Rants/Raves: Annual leave in 7 working days! Jay. BUT won't be having DH with me as he is working so Boo.

Upcoming appointments: 17 December also @kbrands7 and also hopefully finding out the sex. Husband also started a new job (how strangely similar) but our appointment is only late afternoon so we are able to go together.
I like @doozer1345 's idea - that way you find out together. But your idea is also sweet.

GTKY: nope but soon. Need to paint while I'm still somewhat small. Also full of junk. Luckily annual leave is starting soon.

  • @doozer1345 that's a great idea! Thank you!
