3rd Trimester

39 weeks 1 day

So I'm pregnant with my second, I'm 39 weeks 1 day and had my doctors appointment yesterday and I'm not dialating and cervix is still hard. I'm just so done and tired of being pregnant. Is anyone else going through the same thing? I'm just scared if I don't go into labor on my own I don't want to be induced and possibly need a c section.

Re: 39 weeks 1 day

  • Labor can last for week or hours. Every pregnancy is different. You could walk around dilated to 4 for a month or have your first contraction then have a baby a few hours later. Your body will know the perfect time to start the process. Due dates are +/- 2 weeks so you could potentially be pregnant for another 3 weeks. Your doctor should give you plenty of time before suggesting an induction. I did have a successful induction if it makes you feel any better but mine was for high bp not because my baby wasn't ready to come yet.

  • I'm at 37+3, and at ny appointment yesterday, my body is starting to "do its' thing", as I call it. My doctor was somewhat surprised, since this is my first child, and my body is doing everything it's suppose to, and on its' own. My cervix has pretty much started to soften, without any medical help. Which is also surprising me! Then again, I do go out with my dogs to walk. Which could be what is starting it all. But I would suggest trying to walk some, keep hydrated, etc. But rest when your body tells you! I know we're all excited to see our LOs, but when they're ready to come, they will come. And hopefully you will not need to be induced, or have a c sectio. Hang in there, Mama. It will all work out. All that matters right now, is that you and your LO are safe, happy, and healthy!

Also, the doctor isn't worried about my cervix softening thai early. Because I'm showing no signs of labor yet. Just softening, and possible dilation in the next week. Just in case some of you atart to become concerned about it all. My baby is still cooking, even with my LO being low, and my cervix they way it is!

You could use the search bar and see that a lot of women are in your shoes. Like pp's have stated every woman and pregnancy are different and baby will come when baby is ready. It'll happen. :)

  • My second didn't come until 40+3.  Baby will come.  Try not to worry.  You still have a good 3 weeks at most until there is need for worry.

You have 6-14 more days before (IMHO) an induction becomes an issue. My daughter came at 39 weeks and my son 41 weeks. Be patient. I get being done and feeling like you are ready to cry every day. Its not about you. Its about waiting on when baby is ready.
