Carolyn Hax

Anyone else read Carolyn Hax? Lately I've been loving the baby/child articles and there was one today:

Although, hands-down, the best one of all time was the MIL who insisted on calling her grandchild "MY baby",  claiming that she had waited so long for a grandchild and it was just as much her baby as it was her son's/DIL's. SMH.

Re: Carolyn Hax

  • OMG I just read the article you linked. That woman is absurd and overly entitled to think she has certain "rights" as a grandparent. It also seemed like something my MIL would agree with or at least understand. I can't believe parents feel so entitled to make decisions in their adult children's lives.
I actually had a conversation around my MIL over the holidays about not wanting to control LO or make life decisions for her. I said that I understand she'll be her own person and I won't always agree with the decisions she makes and I already anticipate that. I hope to provide her a strong foundation where she can make smart decisions, but then allow her to make those decisions even when I don't necessarily agree with them. MIL started preaching to me about how naive I was to think that would work. And how that's just not how mothers think or act.... until I told her that's exactly how I was raised and how my mother treats me.
