Lurking TTCer with some questions

 Hi Ladies,
First off, congratulations on your BFPs and I wish you all a happy healthy 9 months. I am in my first tww at 8 dpo and I am looking for a little reassurance. I know it can take a while, but I am very excited/hopeful.
How many cycles did it take you to conceive?
What DPO did you test positive?
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo?
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing?
How did you tell your SO?
Did you use preseed?

Thanks for humoring me :)

Re: Lurking TTCer with some questions

  • Good luck on your TWW. I know its nerve racking and exciting when you first start trying. Hang in there, and do your best not to symptom spot as it WILL drive you crazy.

It took my DH and I 6 cycles of trying before we conceived. Two of them I didn't chart, temp, etc. The last four I did. The cycle we conceived I didn't have a significant dip 5-10 DPO. In fact, my chart the month I conceived was REALLY wonky and fertility friend had a hard time deciding which day I had actually ovulated. It moved it around several times.

I tested negative at 10 or 11 DPO. I thought I was out of the running. Then a few days later, when Aunt Flow should have showed up, BAM! BFP.

No red flag symptoms. Everything felt like my normal PMS. In fact, I didn't have any noticeable symptoms of pregnancy until about 2 weeks after my BFP.

I was so shocked that I had a BFP I just kind of blurted it out to my DH......who was also in shock. We were very happy and yes we were trying, but it as still a shock. :)

    We did use preseed.

  • @SparkE82 Thanks for humoring me. I know it can be a long road. I have 38 day cycles so I know I need to have patience. Its nice to live through other peoples experiences though, so thank you!
  • I suggest that you go to the trying to get pregnant board. TTGP.
My fertility has no bearing on yours. However, some basics stat. It can take a normal couple 12 cycles to conceive. Around 96% of couples concieve with in this time frame. You have about a 20% chance each cycle. Around 35-40% concieve with in 4 months, and around 75% with in 6-8 months.

My first was 9 months, my 2nd was 1 year and a half. I actually concieved her on my last cycle prior to clomid. My first was on my 3rd medicated IUI.
    Thank God for Raid.

I'm not currently pregnant, but i had a baby in June.

It took me 4 cycles off BCP to concieve.  I was temping for all but the first cycle.

I got my first positive test at 11dpo.  I had tested at 7dpo (because i had a dr appt that day) and got a negative, but did not even try to test again until 11dpo, so i have no idea if i could have gotten an earlier positive.

I had no dip in my temps during the TWW

I was pretty much symptomless, aside from sore boobs between 6-8 weeks, and heartburn that started around week 22, for the whole pregnancy.  I lucked out.  Looking back, i was very gassy at 6dpo, which could have been the day of implantation, but i have zero way of confirming or denying that.  I could have just eaten something weird.

I woke him up at 5am waving a pee stick in his face.  He rolled over and went back to sleep.  He's not a morning person.

No.  From everything I've read, preseed will not actually help you get pregnant.  It is not like fertile CM - it doesn't keep sperm alive in your system, allowing it to move into the uterus.  However, if you normally use lube, you should use preseed while TTC because it is one of the only lubes out there that doesn't include spermicide.

  • How many cycles did it take you to conceive?
    23

What DPO did you test positive?
    11ish based on opk.

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing?
I had less symptoms than any of my other cycles. I was convinced I wasn't pregnant.

    Did you use preseed?
Yes but who knows if it helped.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Hi there!
How many cycles did it take you to conceive? I conceived the first cycle and had an early m/c at 5 weeks, then conceived the cycle immediately after that m/c.
What DPO did you test positive? The first pregnancy, which ended up not being viable, I didn't get a positive until 15 DPO and it was VERY faint. That was sort of my red flag that something was wrong. It was still very faint at 19 DPO and I lost it a few days later. This current pregnancy however, I got a BFN on 9 DPO and a faint BFP on 10 DPO and the line has gotten darker each day (I'm now 14 DPO and going in today to get levels checked).
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? I wasn't charting after a few days PO.
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? This time, not really. Just sore boobs.
How did you tell your SO? He was sitting next to my step-son on the couch playing a game with him, so I wrote it on a sticky note on my phone and showed it to him. :-)
Did you use preseed? I don't know what that is, so probably not...lol

  • What happened to me has no bearing on what will happen for you. Everyone is different. Even if I got pregnant on cycle 1 that doesn't mean you will get pregnant on cycle 1 too.

How many cycles did it take you to conceive? 9 months with 2 miscarriages.

What DPO did you test positive? first at 13DPO, second at 10DPO, third at 9DPO but HCG is still low

Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? Nope. Not everyone has a dip

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? None

How did you tell your SO? First time I left him a jewelry box ( I make jewelry) with the test in it and an to that said "Can't wait to meet you Daddy *Due Date*". Second time I just walked up to him and showed him the test. Third time I asked him to come look at the test. After 3 tries and no baby the cuteness goes away.

Did you use preseed? Yes, but pressed will not help you get pregnant. It is a sperm friendly lube. If you have issues creating natural CM use it, but it does nothing except mimic your CM.

  • I'll add the same disclaimer that everyone else did, my experience has no bearing on yours since we are different people.

How many cycles did it take you to conceive?
We got crazy lucky and I got pregnant my first cycle off BCPs.

What DPO did you test positive?
11dpo with a FRER. Maybe a super squinter at 10dpo on a wondfo, but its debatable that it was a real line. I didn't test with an FRER any earlier than that.

Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo?
    Nope.

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing?
None. I had no symptoms until 5.5 weeks.

How did you tell your SO?
I promised him I wouldn't test with a FRER until 16 dpo so I told him I had no self control and had a feeling and showed him the positive test.

    Did you use preseed?
    Nope.
  • Thanks everyone for posting I love reading everyone's experiences and daydreaming about getting mine one day. I know that your experiences are your own and I can't use them to know when I will get mine... but it gives me hope for the future even if I get a BFN. Its actually nice to read how everyone got pregnant on a different cycle. My mother charted when she had us. I asked her about her experience trying and she was like O I didn't really try and I'm like what? and She tells me got pregnant the first time for both of us... at age 33 and 36... now that is a bit disappointing to hear... because I highly doubt it will happen like that for me... but its hard during the TWW not to think... well maybe genetically we have a good chance. My sister got pregnant twice by accident... and I have no one else to go off of. It's nice knowing nothing is wrong with me if it takes a while.
  • It took me 1.5 years to get pregnant with my first child and 4 months with my second. I did use preseed the second time around to increase my chances. I didn't have any signs prior to testing that would indicate I was pregnant.

Good luck to you OP :)

How many cycles did it take you to conceive?
    6 months, 5 cycles

What DPO did you test positive?
    10 dpo

Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo?
No, my temps were fairly high...well above my cover line

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing?
    No

How did you tell your SO?
I planned to surprise him, but the 2nd line appearing took me completely by surprise so I yelled for him to wake up, then said "I think I'm pregnant!"

    Did you use pressed?
Yes, only because it was the only sperm-friendly lube I could find, not because I thought it would magically get my pregnant.

But again, my situation is not yours. Everyone is different. Good luck!

Everyone's process is different, and your fertility is totally unrelated to anyone else's. I just wanted to share because here on TB I was told it takes a normal couple up to 12 months to get pregnant, my midwife said be patient because it'd be 6-9 months, so we weren't really expecting it to happen so quickly and were caught off guard (financially mostly- we had a plan to save money while trying). Just be prepared for it to happen immediately and also be prepared for a year-long wait.

How many cycles did it take you to conceive? 2

What DPO did you test positive? 11

Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? Yes, but didn't know what I was looking at until I got my BFP (my chart was a mess) *edit for clarification: I had a dip on 6dpo that I suspect was an implantation dip, then temp was back up the next day and stayed up

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? Sore nipples that were horribly painful when I'd take my bra off, not something I've ever had before with PMS

How did you tell your SO? Shouted from the toilet, pee stick in hand

    Did you use preseed? no
  • My best advice is to get a pack of wondfos and after about dpo8 if you feel yourself start to symptom spot, POAS. They're cheap and you can't have pregnancy symptoms without the hcg in your system, which would also turn a test positive. I found a lot of the symptoms were in my head. I would literally make myself nauseous waiting for my period to start. The limbo of possibly being pregnant was worse than any negative test was for me. POAS is the only way to know for sure which it is.

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing?Nope.
How did you tell your SO? I just showed him the pregnancy tests.
Did you use preseed? Yeah, but not on the the cycles I conceived.

Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? Yes
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? I felt normal, but I was continuing to temp, and my temperature spiked the day I tested. I was planning to test that day anyway, though.
How did you tell your SO? I was out of town, so I called him and told him our dog was going to be a big brother.
    Did you use preseed: No.

  • How many cycles did it take you to conceive? 2
What DPO did you test positive? Suuuper faint line on the evening of 9DPO, but not really readable until 10 DPO FMU
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? No
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? No, I had more CM than usual, but not widely out of the ordinary
How did you tell your SO? I blabbed as soon as he woke up :) with the test of course. He was initially confused and then super happy.
    Did you use preseed? No
  • I conceived my first first month trying for my first daughter and now I am pregnant with my second daughter, first month trying off of BCP, both times. I never charted.

    Good luck to you!
  • How many cycles did it take you to conceive? 1 cycle (this is not common).
What DPO did you test positive? 10DPO - Faint positive on chepo test then took a FRER and got a clear "Yes +"
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? I didn't temp
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? I was a little nauseous, my nipples hurt and was dizzy (these are also my AF symptoms)
How did you tell your SO? I put a bottle of water in our fridge and asked him to get it for me. On the bottle of water there was a note that said, "For the baby." I don't usually drink water.
Did you use preseed? No, we don't use lube.

  • How many cycles did it take you to conceive? 1- DH and I decided to start trying- had random sex twice and went on vacation to visit my parents. My period was a day late (strange) 2 days late (huh...?) 4 days late (definitely knew I was going to get a positive) I waited to get home from our trip and it was positive. Another two weeks later I MCd and then 2 cycles later was pregnant again with our sticky girl
What DPO did you test positive? As per the story first time I didn't test until a week after my missed period, second time 9 DPO (according to the ovulation strip)
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? Do you mean temperature? I didn't temp
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? None
How did you tell your SO? Both times I just brought it to him. First time he was astonished because it was literally 3 weeks after we started "trying". Second time he didn't let himself get attached so it wasn't much of a reaction. Even I wasn't allowing it- my exact words were "well here we go again"
    Did you use preseed? No

  • Lurking from TTGP.

I know everyone's stories are different but it is really nice to hear success stories over here! H&H to you all!
  • How many cycles did it take you to conceive?
We'd been trying since Jaunary 2015...so about 11 months
What DPO did you test positive?
We'd actually decided to take a break for that cycle, so I've got no idea what DPO...I think about 11 though
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo?
I can't temp due to working night shift part of the week
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing?
My boobs were awful darn sore (still are) and I was really crampy...I thought AF was coming, but decided to test for the hell of it
How did you tell your SO?
He walked in the door and I said "What do you think? Shall we try again?!" And held up the test...He was pretty excited...nervous, but excited. I proceeded to test every single day for the next two weeks and he'd always ask how it looked!
    Did you use preseed?
    Nope!

    Good luck to you!
  • @Bikramlass

I came over here from the TTC boards to just stalk and it's so nice to hear what you said. I'm just passively checking my CM and baby dancing whenever we feel like it (with consideration to what my body is telling me, what my cycle day is etc). I feel like because I'm in my first cycle of TTC and not temping every orifice in my body, people get kinda irritated. I'm 23 and just riding it out, I know if I do get a BFP this month I probably won't go posting it, just pisses people off. LOL.
  • I will play :)

How many cycles did it take you to conceive? both pregnancies took 3 months (one of the three months for each pregnancy I tend to count as void because I have a unicornuate uterus, no tube on the right and my uterus is very skewed left so when I ovulate from my right ovary the chance of it making to my left tube are slim to none- so tried for 3 but ovulated from the left ovary 2 out of the three months.

What DPO did you test positive? Baby #1, waited for labs at 14dpo. I do not know how I did not POAS! This pregnancy, 10/11dpo and labs confirmed at 13dpo.

Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? Temping drove me nuts so I only ended up using wondfo opk's and checking CM. I can also feel ovulation so that helped determine timing.

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? First pregnancy- fatigue, sore legs, incredible thirst, oily scalp all starting at 12/13dpo. This pregnancy, bloat, frequent urination, back pain in TWW, upset stomach.

How did you tell your SO? His bday (10/24) landed on 14dpo so I got a mini pumpkin and wrote July 2016 on it and then attached a note to the stem that said "we are adding another pumpkin to our patch."

Did you use preseed? nope, my CM is always insanely abundant to the point where anything added would just make it a royal slip and slide, LOL. Might be TMI and no pun intended but it's hard enough to acquire friction during my fertile window so no preseed needed!
  • How many cycles? 1st baby- 1 cycle, 2nd baby- 1 year, 3rd baby- 2 cycles, 4th baby- birth control fail pregnancy

Dip in temp: Yes, I did with my 2nd and 3rd babies. For the other two, I wasn't temping.

Red flags- sore breasts and light headed

Telling SO- Showed him positive tests.

Preseed- No, but only because I really don't need it.
  • Keep in mind that everyone is different and your fertility depends on many factors that are both out of your control and within control.

How many cycles did it take you to conceive? 2
What DPO did you test positive? 11dpo. I had tested at 10dpo too and it was negative.
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? Nope. I actually had that the month before though and was not pregnant that cycle (obviously)
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? None at all. Normal progesterone symptoms like I was getting my period.
How did you tell your SO? I poured him glass of whiskey and handed it to him when he came home from work!
Did you use preseed? No, we don't use lube I general so it wasn't necessary for us.

  • How many cycles did it take you to conceive?  3 cycles-- cycle 2 was a long shot-- I had a colposcopy and wasn't able to DTD until the last day of my fertile window.
What DPO did you test positive? Not until 1 day after my missed period (16dpo).  I got a BFN the morning of my missed period and that night also
Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? I didn't temp, and we didn't use OPKs during the cycle we conceived.  I only tracked CM
Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing?  Nothing really.  I thought something was up when I started crying after my BFN on the day I missed my period, its not usual for me to  be that emotional.  Plus my boobs were still really sore, but I still ran to the bathroom all day like a mad woman thinking I just got my period.
How did you tell your SO?  He was there with me when I took the test.
    Did you use preseed?  Nope

    Good luck to you :)

  • How many cycles did it take you to conceive? One. We couldn't believe it!

What DPO did you test positive? 11DPO I tested the night before and it was negative. Then I tested the next morning and I got the BFP.

Did you have a significant dip in your TWW at 5-10 dpo? I didn't temp.

Did you have any red flag symptoms prior to testing? I had some cramping and was very emotional. I cried more times that week than I had in months.

How did you tell your SO? He was with me.

    Did you use Presee? Yes
  • Took us 28 cycles to conceive (and infertility medication). You don't need preseed unless your body does not provide enough natural lubrication. I suggest relaxing, using the pink pad app and using OPKs. Took so long for me to get pregnant, and I am pretty regular (every once in a while I would get my period a couple days early or late) that I stopped taking pregnancy tests. It was too frustrating. I just waited to get my period each month. The month I got a positive I felt like I was going to get my period. I was 3 days late and had plans to go out for a girls night. I tested to see if I could have a cocktail and bam positive. I couldn't believe it. I told my husband by waking him up with a cup of pee and the positive test asking him to tell me if I was really seeing a line. Good luck to you.
