2nd Trimester

Vegas

I'll be going to Las Vegas for a work event in February (will be 28 weeks at that point). Anybody have recs for spa/food/other stuff to do while everyone else is out drinking?

Re: Vegas

  • The buffets are great and a Vegas "must do", I love the breakfast ones. The buffet at the Belagio is amazing! Mon Ami Gabi is a great French restaurant at Paris Paris.

I would check with the hotel you're staying at if they have a spa, often they will have specials for their guests. I found that a lot of the spas are really pricey for what you get so look for a deal or promotion.

I like to just walk around and check out the shops and people watch. If that's not your thing maybe look to see if there is a show happening. I like the Ka theater at MGM, they have Circ de Solie there!
  • It might be warm enough to lay by the pool? February is a bit tricky in Vegas from what I remember...agree with PP. Try the buffets and different restaurants, go shopping, take in a show.

And if all else fails, there are always the gambling if that's your thing. I believe most of the casinos are smoke free (or have smoking only sections).

  • Loading the player...
  • The spa at Caesars palace is amazing. You can buy a day pass and just hang out in the warm pools, or get a service.

I was just there in August, and I can assure you that the casinos are not smoke free at all and there is no such thing as a smoking only section. Which totally blows.

Really? That sucks! Atlantic city is smoke free/ smoke zones now so I assumed it was all casinos. Blahhh that's the only thing I hate about the casino floor; always go home reeling like an ashtray!

Omg jealous! We go a few times a year but haven't been since May !

No casino is smoke free but some have better ventilation than others.

The fashion mall just down from the Venetian is huge with high end options and more typical stores . There's one across from the bellagio as well that you can get to through planet Hollywood .

I could go on and on but I'll do my best to narrow it down a bit as far as food goes.

    Ok my favorite restaurants

    Nice dinner :

STK @ the cosmopolitan ( steak place get the mini burger appetizer / nice dinner spot )

Koi @ planet Hollywood ( their sushi is amazing the rock shrimp one is heaven !!! /Japanese )

TAO- @ the Venetian ( kinda a fusion of Chinese)

Prime steakhouse @bellagio ( steak etc. / get a table on the porch and if you order a rare steak literally it's a cold uncooked hunk of meat. I like mine medium rare and I have to order it medium well there for it to turn out how I like it)

    Quick lunch :

Diablos cantina : in front of the Monte Carlo ( Mexican / get the chicken and steak nachoes they are heavenly )

The earl of sandwich @ planet Hollywood ( best quick yummy sandwiches that are cheap and tasty plus it's right in the mall access area)

    Breakfast

Hash house a go go - I think there is more than one location I can't remember .
However I do remember the chicken and waffles... Sounds gross but it .. Is ... Awesome.

Breakfast buffet @ bellagio is amazing

I've seen all the circ shows plus more so if you want any suggestions I'd love to share.

Edit: I forgot to add... If you sit down at a table that you know how to play ( I like blackjack and baccarat ) and gamble even a little you will get free drinks... By drinks I mean not just booze. You can order virgin anything and hot chocolate etc and you literally can drink for free/ less than you would spend on drinks if you ordered them from a bar. If you sit at a table with a friend who is gambling and you are not it's still free drinks for you. Just tip that's all.

The earl of sandwich really is the bomb !!!
That's 2 votes for the earl of crack sandwiches!

    @NachosAndPeaches lives there right ?

  • @jonesl12 oh my gosh it's a party in my mouth. That was the only food I could keep down during first tri!!
And yes I believe she does !
  • I so so wish there was one close to where I live. I always get 2 sandwiches because one doesn't quite do it.( When I'm hangry and hungover that it )
  • I was in Las Vegas around 28 weeks this summer. There is SO much to do besides drink. Have you been there before? If it is evening time, I definitely recommend a show (KA was amazing!). During the day there is fun shopping and people watching. Love the buffets. Just see what there is to see - there is so much to do!

    I like www.cheapovegas.com for ideas.

The Burger Bar between the Luxor and the Mandalay Bay on the south side of the strip is my personal favorite. Milkshakes and burgers to die for! Also there is shopping around that part.
  • So Vegas is one of my favorite places. For food, off the strip is Lotus of Siam which is some amazing Thai food but you should call for a reservation or get there as soon as it opens...in a sketchy looking area but so good. Buffet-wise, wicked spoon at the cosmopolitan is amazing or the one at Caesars. BLT burger at the Mirage is very good but make sure you order a well cooked burger cause they tend to leave it pink which can be bad for baby.

Entertainment: I second the fashion show. Make sure you wear comfy shoes tho cause it's huge and kind of easy to get turned around. I saw LOVE cirq show at the Mirage which was excellent. I do a bit of poker playing and most poker rooms forbid smoking and the better casinos have pretty good ventilation to help with smoke crossing into the rooms. Spa services are expensive but hey, you're prego...indulge!
  • Definitely see a Cirque Du Soleil show!!

When I was in Vegas I saw "Love", which is the Beatles show, "Zumanity", which is a naughty adult show, and then I saw the Michael Jackson tribute show. It's not part of Cirque, but it was still entertaining.

    Have fun!!

  • For breakfast definitely go to the Pepper Mill. It's awesome. If you go to a "tix 4 tonight" booth you can get great deals to shows, and sometimes they throw in a dinner deal. The catch is you have to go the day of and see what they have available.
  • I'm going to Vegas for a work related workshop in January. I'm just here to commiserate. The only thing I like to do in Vegas is drink and play video poker. This years workshop is going to be way less fun.
  • Was just in Vegas last weekend. I definitely second the Fashion Show mall. HUGE!!! I had a great time just walking around and people watching. I also like the strip of stores next to Linq. Kitson has adorable baby things & items that make great, unique gifts. Plus- there is a Sprinkles Bakery right there. So much win!
  • Aria casino has that very expensive air filtration that sucks up the cigarette smoke so the casino is much more enjoyable.

Vegas is one of my favourite cities on earth that i've visited. Definitely in the top 3.

Shark tank waterslide at the golden nugget hotel! Also Heart Attack Grill. And Wicked Spoon buffet - the wait is crazy but very worth it.

Also I'd recommend the Boneyard - it's basically the place old Vegas neon signs go to die and they do tours. It's a beautiful place. My husband and i wanted to get married there but wedding packages are stupid-expensive. You might also enjoy the place we DID get married, Floyd Lamb Park - it's not Vegas proper but it's really beautiful - kind of a desert oasis. Selfie heaven :)

I think people suggesting shows or gambling in smoke-free casinos have the right idea too! I don't gamble and I actually have never seen a vegas show but i think most people enjoy the shows a lot if it's something that appeals to them.
