Baby night sweats

For the past few weeks every time baby sleeps he starts sweating heavily. His head will be drenched in sweat. I use to put on him a onsie and a zip up pajama and a hat (like the ones they give you at the hospital) before he went to sleep but since then I stopped putting the onsie underneath & the hat but he is still sweating like crazy. Is it normal for him to sweat so much while sleeping?

  • Thank you for the feed back :) I was just worried. I had never seen a baby sweat so much! But it might also be I had the temperature in his room a bit too high + I would bundle him up...FTM mistakes lol
  • I've read that babies should not sweat. Also that they should not wear hats to sleep after home from the hospital as this can cause them to overheat. Have also read that it could be a Sids risk factor.
  • My baby is a hot baby too! So counterintuitive! She prefers to be cooler even though her hands and feet feel cold - she needs to be aired out sometimes cuz she overheats. She also gets more baby acne and almost a heat rash when we make her wear layers or mittens. I can't even wear fleece or terry cloth onsies on her cuz she start to fuss and turn red and sweat but the minute I take them off she's fine!
She sleeps much better in cooler temperature especially when she's swaddled.
Every baby is different and most prefer Warmer temps but I know for sure my baby is happier and sleeps better in cooler temps like her mamma!
  • @bronxunderground wow thank you so much for that information. I just always assumed the nurses put the hats on for a reason so I continued doing so at home but i stopped once I noticed his head would be covered in sweat when he slept.
  • @jasmineluke My baby is the same way. If im cold I'll go check his hands & if they were cold i would bundle him up assuming he was cold also but then he would start sweating like crazy. I guess he feels best in cool temperatures so now if anything I just swaddle him with a thin blanket. That has reduced his night sweats but they still occur occasionally.
  • I have struggled with this too! My boy kept waking up covered in sweat bc i read that he needs one extra layer than an adult would need, so I bundled him up. Now he sleeps in a short sleeved onesie and a swaddle with a light muslin blanket around his legs and he is fine. Before I had him in long sleeved pj's, swaddle, and hat. Man that was silly! He's a little heater and doesn't need that many layers ☺️
