Strange urge to buy baby doll

Does anyone else feel the ridiculous urge to purchase a baby doll?  I want to hold this little thing inside me so bad that I feel like I need a stand-in until it gets here.  And I feel so silly.  Just picturing myself holding it is laughable.  But I also want to get that elusive swaddle down, too.  Uh, Lord help me.  It's gonna be a long wait until June 2016.

  • I have a Mandy doll you can borrow lol..shes soft and cute. I saw her at the flea market for 50 cents, and she was all dirty... I had to save her...I used her for Halloween lol

  • Haha this is awesome! In high school they had those robot babies that we had to take for a weekend and I think DH needs one for practice because a baby is WAY out of his comfort zone! It's going to be so cute to watch him learn though :)
  • I'm excited to snuggle a little baby but right now I'm more grateful he/she is on the inside because my 1 year old is taking up every second of my life. He's insane lately
  • My daughter had one of those, we had to wrap it in blankets and bury it in a linen closet because her bracelet wouldn't be recognized by the doll so it cried forever... rofl
  • I hugged the mannequin at Target today. It was a little baby one (no head. So weird) and I just wanted to snuggle it in its cute little onsie. My husband just said I couldn't take it home with me.
  • lol. and so it begins. Just wait till you're in line at the super market, holding a 10lb bag of potatoes and instinctively start swaying back and forth. I guarantee that will happen to you at some point after your baby is here ;)

This is no lie...I sway all the time!! With a baby, without a baby. Doesn't matter! ;)

I sympathy sway. For instance - if we are in church and are standing and H has the toddler and is swaying, I find myself swaying too. H does it too. Totally a parent thing!

This is so weird but so hilarious. Thank you for sharing and making me laugh out loud at my desk. Pregnant ladies be cray.

Also, I think you should do it. Then you can give it to your LO. Even my little boy loves baby dolls.

  • I have the perfect job for this problem...I'm a newborn photographer! I get to cuddle them and dress them up in little crocheted outfits. If I didn't get to do this several times a week, I would totally have a doll lol.

  • I really did buy a baby doll to give to DH for Christmas. He's never been around babies before, so he's a bit anxious. This way I can teach him how to swaddle, diaper, and hold a newborn before it comes. It won't be the same (it doesn't wiggle all over), but it helps.

Plus I am an amateur photographer who had never shot newborns. I plan on using the doll to test lighting, location and props to better prepare myself for baby.

So no, I don't think you're crazy. Dolls are cute and potentially useful.
  • We are getting a doll a little further down the road. We have to get our spoiled ass dog used to not being the center of attention. Right now he is not allowed to lay on my stomach like he used to so he stares at me and hits me until I put my legs down so he can lay on them. I might add he is a 50lb boxer mix. We have a lot of work to do with him to get him used to things. So my husband and I will be carrying a baby doll around the house.
