I think @kielpinskim usually posts these on Tuesdays, but I didn't see one, so I figured I'd jump in this week.
1. What did you work on last week? Bonus points for pictures
2. What are you planning to work on this week?
3. How did you learn your craft/hobby?
4. Where do you find tutorials/patterns/inspiration?
Re: Crafty Moms 12/1
2. I'm also about halfway through this cocoon in navy for DS - skeinandhook.blogspot.com/2015/03/free-crochet-pattern-cabled-baby-cocoon.html (photo from pattern). Hopefully I can finish it in the next few weeks.
3. My aunt taught me to knit when I was in 5th grade. I didn't do much until college when I picked it up again. I taught (and am still learning) myself to crochet via YouTube.
4. Mostly Pinterest but also Ravelry.com
Worked on DD2's blanket. Three rectangles down, a lot to go. I really like how it's coming out except that I'll have one visible join line on the front. I wasn't paying attention when I started the third color and I really don't want to rip the whole thing out so it will just bug me forever...unless I should rip it all out?
2. What are you planning to work on this week?
Baby blanket. I'll help DH with refinishing a dresser for the nursery if he lets me.
3. How did you learn your craft/hobby? I've taught myself everything just from books and online tutorials
4. Where do you find tutorials/patterns/inspiration? Pinterest, knitpicks, purl soho, sprite stitch when I'm doing geeky projects, etsy, my brain
Sleepy dog included for scale
I finished up a receiving blanket from fabric I got at the Joann's sale. It's in the baby's soon and I'm in my bed. Too tired/lazy to go get a picture.
2. What are you planning to work on this week?
I am going to finish up the 2 carrier wraps I started last week. I have to surge the edges and add a center appliqué.
3. How did you learn your craft/hobby?
My grandma taught me all about fabric crafts- seeing and knitting specifically, but we did some cross stitching and embroidery together. My mom is a great artist and paper crafter and has taught me a lot. She has painting skills that have proven to not be genetic haha
4. Where do you find tutorials/patterns/inspiration?
I learn new things mostly by YouTube videos but when I need extra help, my grandma is always up for a FaceTime session. She is quite tech savvy for a 75 year old.
Worked on painting bookshelves...got sidetracked by the robbery over the weekend so those still need to be waxed. I did finally get my abc wall up tonight!
2. What are you planning to work on this week?
Time to finish those bookshelves! I am itching to get them up and organized.
3. How did you learn your craft/hobby?
Mostly self taught/reading online. I'm a little jealous of all of you who learned from family! My mom does some things (basic sewing, quilting), but it's nothing we ever did together. My grandma wasn't crafty AT ALL. My GG was, but she died when I was 12.
I'd like to learn to knit and/or crochet. I don't really understand the difference
2.I'll be continuing to work on the Afghan, and may also start a hat for the husband. He's started commuting by public transit for the first time, and nothing he's got is quite warm enough for those cold winter mornings.
3. I actually taught myself to knit out of a little beginning knitting pattern book I picked up in the Wal-Mart craft section back in college. My mom also tried to teach me to crochet when I was younger; that didn't take, unfortunately. I never did figure out how to read the fabric correctly, and for the life of me I can't figure out where to put the hook for the next stitch. I much prefer knitting because the next stitch is always the one at the end of the needle!
4. I look for inspiration on Ravelry or Knitty, usually. Otherwise, I'll occasionally grab a book of patterns from the bookstore and knit the crap out of whatever is in there... Victorian Lace Today is my all-time favorite! Tutorials I'll usually just go to the back of the book or use the instructions in the pattern, but Knitty has some decent ones for when that's not enough.
2. I'm hoping to pick up a cabinet from an antique store to put our TV on. I'll need to paint it the same as the side table.
3. My mom taught me to sew in 3rd grade, but didn't pick it back up until after I had DD1. I love sewing-it's very therapeutic for me. I did some jewelry making that I learned from a book. The rest is due to the crafty genes my mom passed down to me.
4. Mainly Pinterest at this point.
My grandma taught me a bit about crocheting but a sweet lady named June really fostered my love for it. She helped a bunch of us who were in 4H and took projects to the county fair. Mom taught me the basics of how to sew but I have a lot to learn, and I picked up embroidery on my own but don't do it often.
My projects come almost exclusively from Ravelry and Pinterest these days. Why search for something that's right there at my fingertips?!?
I've dabbled in planning out the scrapbook layout, but this week I started to make homemade lip balm. I'm trying out a few recipes first, probably giving them away as gifts. If it goes well, I might sell them in the spring at our town square sale. I've been trying to work on getting scents and flavors down, but my first two batches turned out to be pretty plain, so I'm switching bases this week.
I found the recipes online via a friend who wants to start a lip balm business in Canada. I live in Missouri and thought it sounded like a cheap-ish hobby. Especially with chapped lips in winter. If my recipes start to work out, I'm hoping to make a Christmastime scent to give to my family. It'll save me money from having to buy gifts. I also thought I could do cherry and strawberry scents for Valentines, if I'm still doing it in two months.

It's green and it has ornaments, so I'm calling. It a tree!
1&2: I'm still working on a baby blanket. I've been too busy to crochet much, but it's coming along. Right now I'm naked and it's in my cold living room, so you can have a pic another day.
3. My grandma taught me the basics of crochet when I was five, and how to read patterns/actually make things when I was pregnant with my first. I tried knitting when I was about 8, but it was hard and I never finished my first project (a scarf). The Internet taught me when I was pregnant with my second. My mom and grandma have been sewing with me since before I can remember. My other super crafty skill is cake decorating, which I also learned from the Internet, after my sister died- she was a master, and in a silly way, it makes me feel close to her now that she's gone.
4. Mostly Pinterest. I recently inherited a stack of crochet patterns from dh's grandma, though, and I'm using one of those for the blanket from question 1&2.
