Re: weekly weigh-in / fitness check 11.30.15

  • Oh whatever I'll be first.

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
159 this morning so I overindulged some during the holidays. Combined with pre-AF bloating I'm feeling like a beached whale. My goal weight is 140. However, I'm down from 167 last month! :)

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
I'm planning to go back to my normal diet (my normal I mean what I've been doing for the last month or 2) of trying to avoid processed foods and eat foods that are nutritionally dense

Any challenges you're facing this week?

This coming week my biggest challenge is going to be trying to force myself to go for walks/jogs when it's really cold and icky outside. It's been cold and rainy for days.

How did you do with your goals last week?

I think Thanksgiving feasting sorta ruined the last week. Okay fine to be fair I was weighing 158.1 pre-Thanksgiving and 158.8 after Thanksgiving. Ya know, until all the bloating. But still if I hadn't done the Thanksgiving thing I should have lost a pound or so at least.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire?

I don't really have a favorite place. I usually get stuff at Marshall's or Target. Wherever I can find a good deal since I (hopefully!) won't be this size for too much longer. That is sorta the point of all the work out clothes. Once I get back to my goal weight I'll consider spending a bit more on some nicer workout clothes that I'll likely be able to use longer.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? Too much. I weighed myself this morning and I'm so disgusted that I don't even want to post the number here. But I need to lose about 15 pounds just to get back to where I was when I got married over the summer, and then another 20 to get to my actual goal. The sad thing is that earlier this year I was only about 10 pounds from my goal.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Get back to staying within my calorie goal, and hitting 10k steps per day at a minimum.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Just getting back into the habit of not eating whatever I want all the time.

How did you do with your goals last week? n/a

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? I don't like to spend a lot on workout clothes, and my main form of exercise is just walking, so I shop for yoga type pants and tops at Old Navy usually.

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?

    Goal: 130
Didn’t even bother weighing myself this morning. I feel so bloated and crampy courtesy of the AF from hell!

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?

Gym: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday. Walk every day at lunch as usual

Any challenges you're facing this week?

AF. The B**** makes me want to eat everything. Also, our anniversary is tomorrow and I told DH I want to get Chinese take out and champagne and have a picnic at home.

How did you do with your goals last week?

Since last week was Thanksgiving, I was bad and didn’t really set any goals for myself.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire?

TJMaxx for pants, Dick’s Sporting Goods for shirts and jackets

  • **lurker, first weekly weigh-in post**

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?

Goal: 154 before we seriously start TTC #1 next year would put me right at the top of the healthy BMI range. UGW would be 145 so we will see how much more I can lose while we TTC.  I am off of BCP (Cycle 3, CD2) and charting in the meantime.
Current: 183.7 Ugh, start of AF + a week of poor eating/vacation. Time to re-focus and at least get rid of the ridiculous amount of water weight and bloat!

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?

Crossfit: Monday (My birthday!  Birthday burpees for everyone!), Wednesday, Friday, Sat or Sun. Walk: every weekday (except Monday - lunch out at the awesome salad place) at lunch. Run (slow/easy 2-3 miles): Monday, Tuesday, Thursday mornings. Weekend: Remodeling the bathroom = enough of a workout.

Any challenges you're facing this week?

AF for me as well! Birthday dinner out tonight will be a bit of a splurge, but nothing too crazy.  Other than that, need to re-focus.

How did you do with your goals last week?

No goals since this is my first post/Thanksgiving.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire?

The sale rack of any sporting goods store.  But I do like Reebok (cyber Monday half off sale for the whole website today!) and UA.

@smmatt08 Happy anniversary!   I love champagne and find every excuse possible to drink it.

@sldp123  I hear ya on the disgust part... but we will get there!

@namelessaria Getting out when it's cold/rainy/icky is the worst.  I got some new winter gear recently for hitting my first weight loss goal that will hopefully help motivate.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? 125.6/125

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Need to meal prep tonight. Chicken, Rice & Veggies. Still have leftover turkey as well that I can have for the week. I miss being in the gym 6 days a week but with my new job it's been so hard. So I'm committing to at least 3 times this week.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Physically getting to the gym after work. After driving 1.5 hours home, I just want to eat and sleep, not drive to the gym. If I can get to the gym, I'm going to at least try to take a long walk each day.

How did you do with your goals last week? Just getting back on the horse with working out plus Thanksgiving so yeah...

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? Call me cheap, but I love scouring thrift stores and my personal favorite is Savers. There's nothing quite like finding name brand clothes for $5.

  • @NamelessAria Congrats on being down 8 pounds in the last month! That’s awesome!

@sldp123 Hitting 10k+ steps is a lot easier some days than others. Especially the cold, rainy days when I don’t want to leave the couch.

@MrsR130 Happy Birthday!!! Burpee the heck out of it!

@nwegman7878 Ugh, meal prep needs to be my goal every single week, it is my biggest downfall. Teach me your ways!

  • @smmatt08 Gladly, but just be prepared to be super sick of eating the same stuff over and over again. Just to give you an idea, my (supposed to be) daily meals is as follows:
    7am - 2 Hardboiled Eggs & 1/2 Cup of Oatmeal
    10am - 2 Caramel Rice Cakes w/ 2tbps of Natural Peanut Butter
    2pm - 3oz Chicken, 1/2 Brown Rice, 1/2 Veggies
    5pm - 3oz Chicken, 1/2 Brown Rice, 1/2 Veggies
    8pm - 3oz Ground Turkey Burger, 1/2 Brown Rice, 1/2 Veggies
Usually workout and then Whey Protein Shake (30g protein)

When I was doing this, I lost about 5% body fat in a month and a half.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? I made the mistake of stepping on the scale today.  Just going by the way my pants feel is good enough.  I know I over did thanksgiving, but I'm getting refocused.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? I plan to start each day this week with a kale/spinach smoothie, eat clean and drink a ton of water.  I'll be feeling back to not-bloated normal me in a couple of days!  Next weekend I have to be sure to keep it together, though.  I have a lot of holiday parties coming up.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Dealing with a shoulder injury so its hard to find ways to be active.  You would be surprised all of the little things you use your arm to do!

How did you do with your goals last week? Not great, but like other people have said, I didn't really set any hard goals over the holiday.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? I love the clothes I find at target.  But I do have  a secret vice... its Victoria Secret.  I only wear their sports bras and slowly falling in love with their other workout clothes.

  • Okay, I'm getting back on the healthy bandwagon and I'm totally excited about this check in! At the beginning of this year I lost 35 lbs woo! But in June I started a knew job and that through off my whole routine I had created. Since then I have been majorly slacking and gained 5-6lbs back :(. I figured now is a good time to get my act together again and it will help keep my mind off the ttc craziness.

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? I tried to step on the scale this morning, but it has low batteries! I am feeling rather bloated from all the holiday eating though.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? My goal is to make it to the gym at least 5 days this week and to seriously up my water intake. I have been drinking far too much coffee lately.

Any challenges you're facing this week? My mind is in a good place right now, we will see how the week progresses. Weekends always seem to be the hardest for me.

How did you do with your goals last week? I didn't really have any goals last week because of the holidays.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? I don't really have a go to place for workout stuff. Typically I buy pieces from all over depending on what's on sale. I hate spending a ton on workout clothes since they just get sweaty and I'm not really trying to look cute when I'm sweaty :)

  • Hey ladies - any ideas for portable healthy snacks?  I usually buy a piece of fruit with my lunch to eat later in the day (buying lunch is the only way I can tolerate salads, cuz I never have all the ingredients at home).  I need to get some almonds.  Other thoughts?  If I don't have something to munch on when hungry I end up eating whatever cake/cookies/chocolates are around in our office.... I am also always moving from one place to another so I don't consistently have access to the same refrigerator, so cold things are out (although feel free to share because I can stock up on them and eat them at home).

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?

Goal is to lose 7 lb.  Feeling pretty gross, need to fit back into my pants.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?

Fitness: Gym 3x this week and Yoga 1x.  At some point I have to figure out how to fit in both cardio and weights.  Right now I'm just doing weights at the gym.  I walk a lot (walk to work, walk around at work, walk home from work) but I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that it's not really cardio.  Unfortunately I have a back issue that seems to flare up with running, biking and stair climbing so my options are limited.

Nutrition: I just re-signed up for MyFitnessPal and it's telling me I need to eat 1,200 calories per day to lose 1 lb per week.

Any challenges you're facing this week?

Since I have been overindulging, my guess is that the carb/sugar withdrawal is going to be severe.

How did you do with your goals last week?

Ok.  My goal last week was Gym 3x, Yoga 1x and I did Gym 2x and Yoga 1x.  I figured I would miss a gym day due to the holiday.  Didn't do great on eating healthier, although I didn't stuff myself as much on Thanksgiving as I normally would (particularly with the sweets).

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire?

Marshalls.  Everything is always cheaper there.  I also get my mom to buy me stuff for Christmas every year.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
148/137 (weight when I got married!) and I want it gone by Christmas!

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
I downloaded a HIIT app on my phone but have yet to use it. I need to find something to do, but I just don't want to. I feel like I've plateaued and I need to do some exercise to jump start my weight loss again. We just had our first snow so unless I join a gym (which I would love to do so I could take fitness classes, but it's unlikely with having to drag my 3 kids with me) I need to do things in/at my house.

Any challenges you're facing this week?
I have a pretty good routine, so I'm just sticking to it. I'm obsessed with cauliflower rice and have it at almost every lunch/dinner it's so yummy!

How did you do with your goals last week?
I stayed pretty close to clean eating but did have a little bit of everything on thanksgiving and a lot of wine! And I got right back on track on Friday!

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? Any place where I'm not paying an arm and leg...Walmart works just fine for me to sweat in!

  • @penelope4612 Quest bars are a great snack! I like to eat one in the afternoon before an evening gym session. Celery and peanut butter is another fave. I also like greek yogurt or Icelandic skyr with protein museli (Siggi's is a great brand, very clean and no added sugar). Nuts are always a good snack but I have to pre portion them or I'll eat a whole bag!

  • @NamelessAria Congrats on being down from last month!  That's a great start.

@sldp123 That's the same position I'm in... I need to get back down about 10 lbs to be my original weight and even then I was 5-10 lbs away from my goal.  And yes, also not eating everything I want, you put that perfectly.

@smmatt08 Happy anniversary!  That sounds like a fun plan.

    @MrsR130 Happy birthday!

@NessMatthews Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury, I hope it gets better!

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?  I need to lose 15ish lbs and am just feeling bloaty.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?  Gym every day, eating well.

Any challenges you're facing this week?  Wine's existence is a general problem for me.

How did you do with your goals last week?  Not well, only got to the gym once.  Did go today though and DH went with me, it's nice he's being so supportive.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? Up 2lbs in the past few days, ugh. Every time I visit the ILs there is not much to do so we just eat all day, and large portions at that! Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? I want to get back to tracking using my fitness pal. It helps remind me to stay aware of what I'm eating and why I'm eating it (I.e. Am I really hungry or just bored/tired/sad etc). It also helps with portion control and reminds me to stop eating when I'm full! I also want to really kick up my exercise habits and I going to try getting up early to workout since I'm usually too burned out after work. Any challenges you're facing this week? I have a happy hour and a holiday gathering planned, so that might make it a bit tougher. Mostly just staying motivated to get up and workout. How did you do with your goals last week? Not good at all! But that's Thanksgiving lol. I did workout a few times at least. Still, I've used my fitness pal for about 4 or 5 years now, and I notice a disturbing trend of my weight shooting up every December and then going back down. I'd like to stay more stable this year instead of going up and down. GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? I dream of someday affording lululemon, but for now I shop at TJMaxx or Nordstrom Rack.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Starting to work out again, I stopped working when I twisted my ankle really bad and then mc. I just go a fit bit from Black Friday deals, I am excited about it.

Any challenges you're facing this week? I hurt from yesterdays workout, I am soo out of shape.

How did you do with your goals last week? Horrible, but it was sooo good though....

Any challenges you're facing this week? Said travel, which will have to include lots of dinners and lots of happy hours.

  • Current Weight/goal weight (if you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week? I try not to weigh myself, because the scale is deceiving. I weighed more when I was training for my first marathon because of the muscle I gained, but was in awesome shape.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? Work out at least 5 days this week. I work nights so sometimes that is tough to do, but I just found a kickboxing gym that would be good cross training for my running so I think I am going to sign up!

Any challenges you're facing this week? Working night shift is always a challenge. I just need to suck it up and make it happen.

How did you do with your fitness goals last week? Meh, the holidays and in-laws birthdays made it hard. This week will be better!

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? Under Armour online. They have a good sales section and I love their running stuff. Love the UA Outlet too, when I can get out there.

  • For portable snacks - I like the 90 Cal breakfast bars and sliced apples do stay good for a day.  I like the sharing snacks idea.

I need to do this so bad!  I have been justifying eating bad because I quit smoking and thus I could reward myself.  Then TTC, oh AF is here so that means I will eat an entire pizza and have fast food till it's gone.  No more excuses I've treated myself for far to long, I've been smoke free for four-ish months and have been TTC for 5 time to let it go.

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?  I am currently the heaviest I have ever been, but I swear I don't look it.  I got on the scale today and that was scarrrrrrry.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?  I am going to ban french fries from my diet for at least 10 pounds and going to the gym - 3-4 times a week.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Nope, just recovering from all the food while visiting home.  My dad makes the best bacon and then fries the eggs in the bacon grease, yummmm.

How did you do with your goals last week? Didn't have any so good lol.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire?  TJ Maxx or something like it.

  • Hello all! I participated in this thread over the summer and it was great. I really need to get back into the swing of things. I had a MC at the beginning of November and have not been to the gym since. I finally feel ready to get back to myself.

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?

    147/135 maybe 130

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week? I normally go to a cardio kickboxing class on Tues/Thurs. I can't make it today so my goal is Thursday and then get back to it next week. For food I have a ton of left overs to eat that are ok but once they are gone I need to get back to eating Whole30 style food.

Any challenges you're facing this week? Really none. I'm easing myself back into it since my MC.

How did you do with your goals last week? I had no goals last week I was hunting though so I did get a lot of walking in.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? I don't buy too many workout clothes because I am hoping to get smaller and I like to swim for workouts. Maybe Target or Kohls.

  • Thanks @mrsdee15!  It makes me crazy since my whole job is physical.  Also makes it harder to heal.  I appreciate the good wishes!

@MRSCORKER, Quest bars are one of my vices!  I really can't have them in the house.  And they taunt me at the store lol... I had to totally avoid that isle today, because my stomach was growling!

As far as snacks go, it is best to stay away from packaged things in general (stupid advertising makes us think its healthy) and go with whole foods or homemade things.  I make homemade pumpkin protein muffins using canned pumpkin, oats, egg whites, pumpkin spices, vanilla and stevia.  So simple and delicious!   Other great snacks are nuts, cucumber, hard boiled eggs with hot sauce (yea!)
  • Snack ideas:

PB and apple or banana slices are my go-to, easy to pack, easy to eat, delish.

I also love KIND bars and Quest bars, but have been trying to cut down on grocery costs to help our budget and so am sticking to cheaper alternatives/sales only.

Chobani flips are amazing and really help kill my sweet tooth.  Cooler with freezer pack and they stay cold all day.

Veggies and yogurt dip are also high on my list.  Currently celery, carrots, cucumbers, and/or peppers dipped in yogurt-based Tzatziki is in my lunch.  Cheap, easy, and delish.

Also - nuts, trail mix, jerky, and air-popped popcorn.

  • Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
Feeling horrible. Hubby bought me dress pants for a presentation tomorrow, since my old ones are two sizes too small (haven't fit in them in two years!), and they didn't fit. They were my jean size, too. But, then I remembered that I can have two pairs of jeans that are the same size and one of them doesn't fit, so..
It helps that they were the "only ones" that the store had, but they were quite unattractive. I don't do straight-legged, and definitely not skinny-legged. I used to wear skinny jeans, and they look okay, but skinny dress pants? What is that?!

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
I want to start working out. I used to do yoga and jogging in the morning, and I'm thinking of getting the dog a jacket and taking him for walks when we wake up in the morning.

Any challenges you're facing this week?
I haven't had much of an appetite the past two days. I think my body's still digesting Thanksgiving, haha. But, it's just difficult to eat anything healthy if I don't want any food at all!

How did you do with your goals last week?
I did pretty good. I didn't really over-eat like I normally would. I watched how much I put on my plate for Thanksgiving, and I've been really good lately.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire?
The internet. Amazon is my best friend.

  • Thanks guys.  I love Kind bars but agree they are expensive.  I just looked up Quest bars and they seem great, particularly because they don't have much (any) sugar which is one thing I need to cut back on.  But they only seem to sell them at GNC around here (and I'm sure they're just as expensive as Kind bars).  But maybe I should head to GNC to pick up some....

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?

Current:  Last time I weighed (Last week) 154   Goal:  135-140 would be good.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?   Crossfit at least 4 times & lay off the carbs/work my way back to Paleo/zone.

Any challenges you're facing this week?   Need to lay off the nightly glass of wine.

How did you do with your goals last week?  Last week I didn't have goals, I had a loss & Thanksgiving.

GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire?   Lululemon, but I am thinking about giving Zella at Nordstrom a shot for my next purchases.

Current Weight/Goal Weight (If you weigh yourself). OR how are you feeling this week?
The strongest I've felt since my surgeries. I'm just happy to be running again.

Fitness and Nutrition Goals for the week?
Well... I got in one of those "I'm never going to get pregnant" moods... So I signed up for a marathon... Because that's how I deal with things apparently. Run away. Literally. So this week was my first week training. Edit to clarify following the first weeks plan is my goal

Any challenges you're facing this week?
My husbands reaction to "so I'm running the redwoods marathon in may..." lol. Was hoping for a little more Encouragement. I'm so sick of living my life all "but I might be pregnant then..."

How did you do with your goals last week?
So I accomplished what I wanted to work out wise. Food? Big fat fail. But I planned for that.
GTKY: Favorite place to shop for workout attire? The clearance racks at Under armour lol. I love Lululemon but it's a rare treat that I can't often justify. Plus they don't rock the clearance rack like the underarmour outlet does...

  • @gardeniagirlknits What marathon are you doing? A little over a month ago I ran the Hartford marathon in Connecticut. I am running at least a half marathon in every state.

@DuchessJP That's amazing!!! How many states have you done so far?! Avenue of the Giants marathon... One of my favorite places in the whole world! You're going to continue through the ttc Process? I'm nervous because the last couple of months I've been so so out from shape from surgeries. I've done a half, a 20k trail, a ton of 5ks, a five miler, a 15k and 10k....But all of that was before I got sick.

  • @DuchessJP and @gardeniagirlknits... I am exhausted just reading about all of your running. The furthest I've ever gone is 5 miles and took me an hour.

I have done 7 states so far. 13 half marathons and two marathons total. Due to some personal issues going on right now my next half marathon isn't until February, I canceled my races in Dec & Jan. I am looking at the New Jersey Marathon and Savannah Women's Half Marathon in the spring to complete two more states. I really hope to continue while TTC and throughout my pregnancy, maybe not the full marathon, but my ob-gyn gave me clearance to continue running at my current fitness level so I think half marathons are safe. I will just take my time with pace.

I think it's awesome that you have set the marathon goal for yourself! It is life changing. Keep me updated on your progress! Just be sure to keep up with nutrition and hydration when TTC and that your doc knows.

    @DuchessJP
I'm at the doctor so often with my other health issues I feel like they know Tooooo much about my ongoings! But I will definitely make sure they are in the know about everything.... If I have to just run the 10k or half, for medical reasons, that is an available option. I'm so excited but I'm really nervous! I will definitely keep you updated! My bestie is a marathon junkie ;) and she is just beyond excited that I am stepping into her world!! I used to do distance and she strictly did 5ks... Very quickly I might add. I finally convinced her that endurance was where it was at. The trail 20k I did (my last race) was the "fun run" at a 50 mile endurance race in a Canyon and that was so inspiring to watch! Have you ever thought of doing that? I can't even begin to imagine. Good luck with being able to do it throughout a pregnancy and ttc... I've read lots that says as long as you do it before you conceive and are consistent, than its usually possible.
