Anyone else have hyperactive thyroid?

I was just diagnosed with hyperactive thyroid at 10 weeks.  Looking at the dangerous world of online info, it seems it could be dangerous for the fetus during the first trimester.  My obgyn didn't seem too concerned, just starting me on meds today.
Anyone else have any experience with this?  I take it it's not off the charts as I've been tested for thyroid issues in the past and nothing has ever been found.
Just hoping it doesn't have any negative impact on this pregnancy or on the baby.

Re: Anyone else have hyperactive thyroid?

  • Me!  First of all... Quit googling.  It is actually fairly common for it to happen during pregnancy!  My doctor said she wasn't concerned, unless it doesn't correct itself by 16 weeks.  I assume your OB will follow up with bloodwork again next appointment.  In the meantime, go get a pedicure.  It solves everything!

  • Thanks NicknShan.  The googling stops here!
  • I agree - stop with Dr. Google! I had hypothyroidism with my DD, and she was born perfectly healthy. I did take low dose medication beginning in my first trimester, but it was never a problem. Very common!

Also, so far the thyroid issue has not come back with this pregnancy!
  • I don't know if mine is hyper or hypo, but my thyroid is an asshole too!  I stay medicated and everything is good!

  • I was just diagnosed with hypothyroid at 9 weeks. My doctor started me on a high dose of levothyroxine because he said if your thyroid is off it can effect the growth of the baby, BUT he said not to worry about anything because that's why they test your tsh when you're so early so they can correct it :)
  • Thanks ladies... one less thing to stress about I hope :)
