Weight Loss @ 10 Weeks

There may be a post somewhere for this but I couldn't find one with what I am looking for.

I am s STM and didn't have any issues with DS.  But now at 10w 4d I have lost almost 15 pounds since I found out I was expecting.  My NP was not concerned at my 8 wk apt that I had lost 5-8 pounds, but told me it was because I wasn't drinking Dr. Peppers anymore.  However, I am eating more than normal and having no MS and keep losing weight.  I go next week for 12 wk apt.

I just wondered if anyone is having the same issue?

Re: Weight Loss @ 10 Weeks

  • I lost 7 lbs between my 7 week dating scan and my 10 week appointment today. I was down another 3-4 lbs before my 7 week scan too. They weren't concerned at all, but I was a bit overweight to start so I may be a different story than you.

  • How much is "eating more than normal"?  How many calories are you taking in every day (net of calories burned through exercise if you are exercising)?  Nuts, peanut butter, smoothies, etc. are easy ways to get calories in without feeling stuffed if that is the problem.
  • I'm underweight to begin with, have been my whole life so my doctors have never been worried about it. I, however, am worried I won't be able to gain enough weight.

The scale has fluctuated a little bit, but at my 12 week appointment my midwife wasn't concerned. She said I'll start gaining closer to 20 weeks. I have been meeting calorie goals lately because I haven't been too nauseous or repulsed by food, hoping this will help.

Hopefully at your 12 week appointment they will talk to you about your weight and help you feel better! I'd say for now, as long as you are getting vitamins and eating a well balanced diet you shouldn't worry.
  • With my first, I lost 30 pounds until 20 weeks and then started gaining. Same with this one, at 14 weeks I'm down 22 pounds but was overweight to begin with. My OB isn't concerned he said this may be how my body responds to pregnancy. I'm eating as I should and baby is right on track. Go easy on yourself

  • I'm down 16 pounds as of today at 12 weeks. I have been sick though. It happened to my with my son too. Some people gain all at once, some lose, some don't change at all. I'm thinking it's just every body is different and handles pregnancy different ways
  • Also it's still pretty early, I'd be more concerned if you were closer to 20 weeks and losing
  • Thanks!  I have a desk job and do not get very much exercise at all unless it is pretty outside! I don't keep up with calorie intake.  I eat eggs for breakfast, snack at 10, usually a subway sandwich/salad at lunch, snack at 3-4, then whatever DH wants for dinner around 6.  It depends on our day what we eat.

I have no clue how much weight lost is to much so this makes me feel better! Thanks!

Haha! No Thanks lol! I didn't gain with my DS until the last few weeks I carried her.  My mom thinks I am going to lose weight and do the same with this baby.  I swear I'm starting to show though! It's hard not soft like blump

  • @chelthorn - Just a suggestion you can take or leave obviously but if you are really concerned about weight loss, you should try and keep a rough track of your calorie intake (as well as general nutritional quality of your food) for a week or two.  It really is the easiest way to know if you are eating enough or not.  Some weight loss or weight gain may happen regardless of what you are trying to take in (for example, morning sickness makes it more difficult to keep things down) but I know I feel a lot better going to my doctor with information for him/her on what I actually eat so they can tell me if what I'm doing is healthy and how I can improve it.  Just my two cents.

Thanks for the suggestion! I may do this up to my appointment.  I am an accountant so I don't get much exercise daily unless it is pretty (not raining) and warm enough for me to walk and get lunch at my parents (they live about 6 blocks from my office) or a restaurant here in downtown (4 blocks from office).  If it is raining or cold I drive and there goes my exercise.  (I live in North Alabama where it rains all winter and cold is anything under 60 degrees lol).

I haven't had any morning sickness, just eating a little different.  I cannot stand the thought of a lot of heavy foods or sweets anymore and they used to be my favorites!  I think that may be a lot of the weight loss as well as I used to drink 3-4 dr. peppers a day and I cannot stand them anymore.
