Soother help

Just gave my baby a soother over the weekend. He is not fussy, but nurses constantly and I wanted an alternative to soothe him. He took it right away, but wakes up constantly for it, where as before when I nursed him to sleep he would sleep much longer. Is this normal? Should I ditch it or keep replacing it?

Re: Soother help

  • I gave my LO a kind that fit in her mouth better. She sucks on it until she's really out and then doesn't need it anymore. We've been using mam brand. We haven't had any problems with nipple confusion.

  • Yes exact same thing happened to us with the soothie! We switched to MAM and haven't had any issues since.
  • Mam is the way to go
  • Try a different type. My daughter seems to like the Soothie the best but even then most of the time she acts like she's gagging and spits it out.
  • i was using the soothie and my LO liked it at first but then she just stopped taking it so my mother in law bought us a mam and that night i had my best nights sleep since my second trimester!! she seems like she can hold onto it better and rarely refuses it. Now we have stock pile of them. We bought ours from Target and they came in a self sanitizing case:) NIFTY!!

  • I agree with everyone else MAM is the best! LO hated the hospital soothers but she loves her MAM. Luckily the only time she ever really wants it is to go to sleep so she should be easy to break from it when she's older. The other day we visited my grandparents and forgot her binky I ran out the the dollar General to get a replacement (small town that's the only store they had) they didn't have MAM ones so I got her a Nüby and she hated it. Now we leave one in its case in both cars.. One stays in her car seat and we have like 6 at home lol I learned my lesson.
  • My DD is definitely a comfort nurser... Particularly in the evenings. I was hoping a pacifier would help alleviate some of that but I'm still trying to find a pacifier that LO will take. So far we've tried a Nuk, Dr Brown's, and MAM and she won't take any of them really. Occasionally she'll take the MAM but more often then not she pushes it right out of her mouth with her tongue. It seems like she can't quite figure out how to suck on it.
  • @LaTeteRouge - we are in the same boat! I've bought every kind with no luck!
