25 weeks and I today had my first prenatal massage - I couldn't recommend it any higher! 90 minutes and my lower back and legs feel so much better! Has anyone here tried the massage you can start at 37+ weeks to "induce" natural labour ?
i haven't, but is it just where they massage those trigger points around your feet and ankles?
i am not really into any of the "jumpstart your labor" tricks though. (at least not before 41w for me haha). if i was already getting a massage at 40w maaaybe i'd be like, ok give it a shot, but i'd hate to get contractions or cramping started that i'd have to deal with just to have them fizzle out bc baby decides "nope! today isn't my birthday" - as much as i don't enjoy being pregnant, i don't want anything trying to coax baby out before it is ready

I had one about a week ago and it was sooooo amazing! I had them add lavender to the lotion and I was in heaven. I want another. Every day. For the rest of my life.
That being said, I wouldn't try to induce labor that early. Baby still has 3-5 weeks left to grow and develop.
Had my first massage today. Why did I wait so long??? She couldn't believe how tight I was all over. Nor could I. I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow but so worth it. Wish I could afford it weekly till the baby comes.
As a pregnant massage therapist, I recommend massages to everyone, ESPECIALLY pregnant women. I have been getting them every 3 weeks, 90 minute sessions at a time! Our bodies are changing so rapidly that our muscles sometimes don't know how to react that fast.
For anyone worrying, inducing labor is not that easy. I have given hundreds of prenatal massages and never started labor for any of my clients, even when they asked me to.
Prenatal massages are a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness.
Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling).
In addition, massage for pregnant women reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension -- which aids in better sleep -- and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
I asked for one for Christmas, but I'm not sure I can hold out that long! The place I love to have mine done is expensive, maybe I need to find a more reasonable place so I can get more and not feel so guilty.
Also FYI to the labor inducing thing, 37 weeks is no longer considered full term, 39 weeks is, so no I wouldn't try it at 37 weeks. However if I was at 40 weeks I'd be tempted to try and even then I'd probably feel guilty!
I kinda feel like the natural induction methods really only work if everything is already primed and moving in that direction. For low-risk pregnancy, of course. But I nursed my first throughout my last pregnancy, despite many people warning me that it could induce labor. I went to almost 41 weeks. However, as labor was just getting started my daughter asked to nurse. I wasn't sure it was even labor yet, but as soon as she started nursing it DEFINITELY kicked things into high gear and intensified the contractions. Her sister was born 6 hours later!
As for the massage, you ladies have convinced me. I'm booking one for next week.
