Another month another cycle! I'm planning on my 4th IUI this month, once I finish bc for a cyst. Anyone else planning for IUI this month?

Re: December IUIs

  • Hi! My husband and I have decided to take December off so we can enjoy Christmas, but we will be doing our first IUI in January so I would love to hear about everyone's experiences. Good luck to you!

Me: 28, DH: 30 Married July 2014  DX: Severe MFI- 3 failed IUI's, IVF #1 Egg retrieval June 4th 2016, 5 day transfer- BFP Baby Boy! EDD 2/25/2017. Our sweet miracle Carter Bennett arrived 2/12/2017 6 lbs, 2 oz 19 inches. <3 Surprise BFP!!! Baby Girl due 10/1/2018.

  • Hello ladies, I'm planning on my 2nd medicated IUI this month.  CD10 today and going in on Friday for u/s to see if I can trigger or if I'd have to do a second round of Clomid like I did previously. If everything looks good then IUI on Saturday and Sunday.

@pamelated GL, hope the cyst clears up quickly so that you can start this cycle soon :-D

@chicandbubbly I hope that you get to relax and enjoy the holidays, IF kicks butt and it's nice to forget about it sometimes and just live life.  GL on your first IUI in January!  FX that your journey here is short.

  • Happy December everyone and GL to everyone doing IUIs this month!  I had my first IUI in November (day before Thanksgiving) and I'm currently in my 2ww (testing 12/9).  If we're unsuccessful I will be jumping right into IUI #2 in December (though of course I'm hoping I won't have to)!  Either way I plan on following this thread closely for some BFPs!!

  • @vnegron87 - Thank you!!  Unfortunately I have to test though because my RE won't do a beta unless I get a positive HPT.  I want to start testing at 9dpiui (this Friday) just so I can get used to seeing a BFN and lessen the blow if it is still BFN on 12/9!  Am I crazy?!  Haha.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 nope not crazy I totally get it.  My RE doesn't do beta until a positive HPT also...was so frustrated last month seeing BFNs day after day (I played mind tricks on myself, saying it's too early, maybe I implanted late, etc....the torture!! lol)  I ended up getting AF the morning that the RE initially told me to test.  That's when I vowed to never test early until after day of expected AF (don't hold me to it though ...I most likely won't be able to hold out, but a girl could try right? lol)

  • @vnegron87 - Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.  My plan might be great, or it could totally backfire.  I'm on progesterone suppositories though so I don't even have the option of waiting for AF since I was I was told progesterone prolongs your period until you stop taking it.  My RE instructed me to take a HPT on 12/9, and if it's negative stop the progesterone and AF should arrive about a week later.  If positive they want me to continue the progesterone for awhile.  In previous natural cycles I never tested because my plan was to always wait until a day after AF was due... but I was always right on schedule.

GL this month @teamginger13!!  What is your IF diagnosis?

@vnegron87 - I've heard mixed things about progesterone... some sources say it really doesn't help but also doesn't hurt, and other sources say it does in fact help.  I am not loving the side effects, but I'm willing to deal with them if there's a chance it will help!

  • I have my beta on Tuesday. If it doesn't work then I'm jumping into my fourth medicated cycle/iui.
  • I am supposed to do a Dec IUI but when I went in on Sunday for my baseline I had a cyst.  The dr said to not start my meds as it was producing estrogen and wants to see me again this coming monday to see if it is going down.  I asked the nurse if this cycle was totally not an option or if it went down by monday if we could start meds then. She said we could but I'm not sure how it works so late in the cycle.  we will see.  If we can't do meds at all this month my husband and I need to decide if we want to do another IUI or go to IVF..December was supposed to be our last IUI before IVF but if it gets cancelled I'm not sure what we will do (I want to do IVF< he doesn't)

  • @rachlee2010 I've had cysts after every cycle. My first RE had me take a month off to wait for them to go away, sometimes with the help of bc. My current RE puts me on bc for two weeks, and assuming the cyst is gone, we start the new cycle at that point. So you can start the cycle late. One of the nurses had mentioned to me once that they wouldn't do meds if I had a dominant follicle forming. I'm not sure exactly what that means though.

@Drove2u GL and fx for a bfp!!!
  • Almost tested this morning but didn't. Friday can't come soon enough.

  • Hi Ladies ! I had my first IUI last month with Letrozole+Ovidrel and it was BFN. Even though I really really wanted to start the second IUI cycle immediately, I had to take a break from medication-treatment because I have to do the HSG test. Actually, not doing/talking/thinking about treatment these 10 days felt so good :) I am having the HSG tomorrow morning and I am very nervous about it, mostly because I could not manage to schedule it with my own doctor and now I have to go an imaging facility that I have no idea about. Anyways, I am hoping that if everything is clear with HSG tomorrow, then we can start my treatment again. I do not know if I have to wait for the AF to start medication but I am hoping to start my IUI cycle in December.

GL to everyone with their IUI cycles this month !

@vnegron87 How did your CD10 u/s go ? I hope your follies are responding faster this time ! Did you start the Clomid with the higher dose or trying the low dose first like the last cycle ?
  • @ZoeFer I'm glad to hear that you are finally able to get the HSG done. Make sure to take motrin 1 hour before hand to alleviate the pain of the procedure. And make sure to take a pad, there will be discharge afterward and maybe light bleeding. My doctor only provided pantiliners and by the time i got back to the office i had to change my undies because it was a big mess down there... good thing i always have spare in my desk for emergencies. Stay clear of tampons too to avoid infection.

I haven't had an u/s yet this cycle but did the higher dose of Clomid (100MG CD4-8). I have been temping and checking CM this month and so far it seems promising that my follies are responding because based on cervical positioning and feel and the presence of EWCM already i think i might be getting ready to ovulate in the next few days...FX. U/S on Friday and if all good then I'll trigger and iui on Saturday and Sunday.

@roxgibbons Thank you and FX for your beta. I hope you get the good news tomorrow so you wont need any of the tests!!
  • @ZoeFer we're nearly identical in our cycles/meds. November was our first IUI and we did Letrozole and Ovidrel too. My gyno ordered my HSG before we went to my RE (probably because my RE is 2 hours away). It wasn't awful. I think the IUI was better but I did take ibuprofen before I went in.

I go tomorrow for my baseline and am hoping everything is normal. I've never had cysts. Is it normal to develop them after starting treatments? Or, have those of you who have had them and had to skip a month, had them in the past?

Here's hoping we'll be good to go. If not, I'll soothe with Cheesecake Facorty and retail therapy with my mom.

  • @amandaleigh2181 having cysts after a cycle is completely normal, but not everyone gets them. All the follicle stimulating meds can cause it. As far as I know I didn't have them before I started treatment, but then again, I wasn't getting regular ultrasounds to check :) GL!!
  • @amandaleigh2181 GL with your baseline tomorrow.
I had 3 letrozole cycles and i did not form any cysts before. However, i had cramps and little pain constantly before and after ovulation last cycle and i was scared of cysts but i did not have baseline u/s because i didnot start a medicated cycle. So i am not sure if i had cysts on the last cycle. I hope you do not have any cysts and can start your cycle right ahead. In case you have cysts, try not to get too upset i dont think they are causing too much trouble.
I had my HSG today and it was not as bad as i imagined. Everything is clear I think, i couldnt talk to my RE about the results yet. I will talk to him tomorrow to discuss what we do next. I would love to start my new iui cycle as soon as possible but i probably have to wait for AF .
  • @amandaleigh2181 I have my baseline today as well...with the same protocol as you! I too have anxiety about them finding cyst. I feel like I have the worst luck with this IF thing. What's your Letrozole dosage? I'm doing 5mg.

@ZoeFer Were you able to see the screen during my the procedure? I had to wait a day for the results too but I was able to see the screen during the procedure. I saw that they were clear. Well wishes for the official results!

  • @ZoeFer I'm glad it wasn't as bad as you thought it would've been :-D

Went in for CD14 u/s hoping follies would be matured to trigger...guess again...had only one 11mm on the left but I'm feeling a little defeated because I was on 50MG of Clomid last cycle and 100MG this cycle, but still my follies are growing at the same rate.  I was expecting for the 100MG to work faster but it doesn't seem to have.  Can it be possible that I'm not actually responding to the Clomid and the growth of the follies are just based on my bodies regular rate?  I usually have longer cycles as it is.

Going back on Tuesday to see it has matured by then...don't know if I should keep my hopes up since last cycle this happened and then they upped my dose of Clomid for a second round before triggering.  I'm thinking of asking my Dr. to change up my meds for next cycle (yup, i already feel like this one is going to be a bust :-( ).  Any recommendations as to what has helped you better than others?  Any meds better for PCOS?

Sorry ladies, don't mean to be a Debbie Downer today.  Thanks for letting me vent.

  • @vnegron87 I too was on 50 and then 100mg of clomid and my follicles stayed the exact same size as they were when I was not medicated. I switched doctors and clinics and the new doctor found cysts on my left ovary (he didn't diagnosis me with PCOS though). The reason I say this is because he told me that Letrozole is a med that can treat PCOS and it has the same effect as clomid. I don't know all the details, but I think it's worth mentioning!

  • @vnegron87 I had even worse response on clomid. My follicles never really got about 6 or 7mm. My RE switched me to Letrozole and same thing, no dominant follicles, all under 9mm. This cycle, we upped my letrozole to 7.5mg and also added a small dose of follistim injections CD 8-14 which resulted in an 18mm and 15mm follicle. The injectibles are expensive, but they work.

  • @erica0901 Thanks, I will definitely mention it to my doctor.  I'm glad your new doctors seem to have a better handle on things for you.  What's your current game plan with the new doctors?

  • @mando15  Thanks, I'll keep that in mind to mention to my RE also.  Hopefully I'm just jumping the gun and have much better results on Tuesday's u/s but I'm not feeling to optimistic and would prefer to be prepared with questions for recommendations than be blind sided and not be my own advocate.

  • @vnegron87 I'm sorry your follies aren't growing. Have you tried Letrozole? My RE mentioned that it's better for women with PCOS. That's why he chose that med over Clomid. I wrote down his reason but it isn't in front of me.

I just left my baseline appointment and I start my first round of Letrozole tonight! Eek!

  • @vnegron87 I also have PCOS. I've used Clomid, Letrazole, Bravelle, and Follistim. Clomid worked for my in my first cycle, and then stopped working in subsequent cycles. I did a cycle with all four of those meds in that sequence, and the Follistim finally did the trick. So now my cycles are exclusively Follistim. It's an injectible, which is scary at first, but the needle is tiny and it comes in an easy to use pen.
  • @vnegron87 I am sorry that your follies are not growing as it is supposed to be. I have never used clomid, I had three cycles of letrozole. I think I am responding less and slower each cycle though. I think they do not want to overstimulate the ovaries so they increase the dose slowly or switch to new medication if you do not respond. It might be a good idea to ask if the doctor would switch the medicine.
I hope your follies still grow in this cycle or maybe a new medication would be an answer. I really really hate that we have to try and see if something is working or not then wait a month to try something new. I get so impatient sometimes ; the slowness and ambiguity of this whole process drive me crazy. So I completely understand and share your frustration.

@PCOSbaby I actually saw the screen and also talked to the Dr that did the procedure yesterday and he said that everything looks clear. I just could not talk to my own RE after he saw the images. I dont think he would see something that the other Dr did not see but who knows. Thanks for asking. It is great that your baseline went well and you could start the medication. Good luck with your new cycle !!!
  • @vnegron87my plan for this cycle is to take Letrozole and Ovidrel as well as a vaginal progesterone supposatory after ovulation. Won't know specific doses until I get AF and schedule my baseline appointment.
