1st Trimester

Possible Ectopic, 2nd time

Hi all! I "may" be experiencing another ectopic. I got a faint line, then started a very heavy cycle for 6 days, but tested again to get a very dark and fast BFP. The bleeding came back and now is only present when I wipe or after a lot of walking around. (I've basically had the presence of blood since October 26th). Got a blood test 1st levels 223, 2nd levels only 309, 3rd levels 765! I took my fourth levels today but haven't heard back. I'm sooo anxious and they are moving so slow each time telling me my results. Other symptoms... Headache, cramping on and off. Haven't gotten an u/s because doctor believes it's too early. I'm so worried this is another ectopic... Waiting game sucks!

  • I'm so sorry! I've been through it too and while it does sound similar to my experience, bleeding can have a variety of sources. The good news is that they are figuring it out to give you the best care possible.

Do you still have both tubes, or are you one down already?

  • I still have both tubes. The last time I was given the MTX shot to dissolve the pregnancy. My levels have doubled again 2358! Waiting for Doc to arrange an ultrasound. Still very nervous. The difference this time is that my levels are actually doubling. The last time they went up and down but never over 500. I hope this means I have a viable pregnancy but what's with the bleeding. Today I'm crampy and having gas pains.
  • I am surprised they won't do a sonogram to confirm implantation- how far along are you? After my ectopic, my doctor did one at 6 weeks (typical at their practice is 9) just to confirm.

They also warned me I was at much higher risk of having another one after the first- especially if you kept your tubes the first time around (I lost mine)
  • I assume I am about 6 weeks. They wanted to wait until my levels were high enough to see anything on ultrasound. I should be going soon, hopefully between today and Friday.
  • The waiting sucks!! Hang in there!!

  • I'm only lurking over here, but my fingers are crossed for you.  I recently had an ectopic and am terrified of another.  I hope everything turns out well, keep us updated!
  • Honestly it doesn't sound like an ectopic... Unless you're having severe pain on one side, things sound pretty normal to me...

Yeah, I'm with you on this. It may not be a viable pregnancy (I am not a doctor, so don't take my word for it), but ectopics shouldn't present like this.
  • Ultrasound in the AM. I don't think it's ectopic either just because it's sooo different from the last one I experienced. My worry is though, that it isn't viable. But we shall see. I've been praying and just trying to remain stress free. I will update as soon as I can. Thanks for the comments and encouragement.

Good luck, and update us. Ectopics suck and I wouldn't wish them on anyone.

I'm sorry, that really sucks. Have they mentioned removing the tube? Was it the same one, or a different one?

The reason I ask is because I was (CLEARLY) freaked out when they had to remove my tube but the doctor said it is actually better because whatever caused it in the first place was likely to cause it a second time. Not having one tube doesn't reduce your fertility.

I hope you can figure out why this keeps happening to you :(
  • Thanks for the new words of encouragement. I have to see my doctor on Tuesday so I will ask about the future of my fertility and such. The last time they actually only "assumed" it was ectopic because they couldn't locate in my uterus and my hcg went up and down. This time the sac was located near my left ovary. So i don't think they will need to remove a tube. I was to busy crying to fully understand what the doc was trying to explain.

Yeah, it's a really tough process. It took over a week to "diagnose" mine. And I use "diagnose" because even once I was bleeding internally, they STILL couldn't see where it was. It was only after they went in that they found it in the left tube.

I cried. A lot. For days. Don't feel bad about it. Make sure you bring a list of questions with you to your next appointment so you aren't like me and just have a break down in the office without asking ANYTHING.

  • I'm sorry to hear this. I've been through two, lost my right tube. I'm not pregnant (we did IUI and I was ovulating out of my left side) and now they think I might be having another one, so I might lose my remaining tube. It's so painful but hang in there, we all get through it, as hard as it is. Praying for a good recovery for you.
