June 2016 Moms

so what if it's ovarian cancer?

I haven't been able to confirm pregnancy. I haven't had a period since August. I got positive pregnancy tests week of Oct 14th then negative, then positive again Nov 9th, then negative. Every time I go to doctor it is negative. I get blood test result on Monday. I had an ultrasound when I would have been 5 weeks and they didn't see anything but that I had a retroverted uterus. I spotted Oct 23rd for 2 days, I spotted Nov 23rd for 2 days. I can no longer close my pants and even the hairties I use on my pants are busting. So I am forced to diagnose myself on Dr.Google. I have read that ovarian cancer can cause a positive pregnancy test, frequent urination, bloating. I guess I'm just looking for support. My gyno apt is Dec 16th. Just feel like its been a hard couple of months.

Re: so what if it's ovarian cancer?

  • First of all, I just want to say how sorry I am. I have no experience with this, but I'm glad you have an appointment soon. Could you ask for it to be bumped up? There's no point worrying until you know if there is something to worry about--but of course that probably isn't much help to you (I know it wouldn't be comforting to me). Sending you healthy thoughts. <3

  • Im not sure many here can do much for you but I'll give it a go.

Dr Google always says cancer or something equally extreme. Headache? Brain tumor. Stomach ache? Pancreatic cancer. Peeing more than normal? Total kidney failure. Bloating and a positive on a HPT but not one at the doctor seem pretty vague symptom wise to begin to worry about cancer.

That all being said, depending on the brand and how closely you followed the instructions, the lines you're getting may be evaps or indents. You've got the weekend to go and then the doctor will have blood results to go off of something. Find something to keep your mind off it while you wait.
  • Thank-you, I took some dollar store tests that gave me a positive and on Oct 14th I took a clearblue digital weeks indicator that said 1-2 weeks pregnant. I know that no one here can really help but I do appreciate the response. Just grasping at any kind of positivity I can find

If you got a positive digital have you tried another digital recently? You should be able to turn one. There are other reasons your body could be producing HCG (and you are not pregnant). Not all of them are game-changers. Definitely talk with your doctor & get an ultrasound of all your equipment. Ovaries, uterus, cervix & vagina. Something is producing HCG & you need to figure that out pronto.

    Wishing you the best.

  • How confusing and unsettling for you! Its a real head scratcher! I hope you get answers soon and some good news. Sending you best wishes and positive thoughts.
  • On a bright note, if you had an u/s they would have looked at your ovaries. If you had ovarian cancer they would have most likely seen a mass on them. They would have told you if they saw that since they also would have been worried about an ectopic. If your symptoms and bloating are bad it would be later stage cancer and you would definitely show masses. My guess would be not cancer
  • You have no idea how that helps. Yes they did do an ultrasound on Oct 29th I think it was. My tummy was much flatter then. All the growth has happened in the last 3 weeks. I was thinking a tumor could grow that fast. My tummy is extremely bloated and it never goes down. I have to go buy leggings today. Thanks for all the positive comments. It really has helped me:)
  • No problem, my aunt just dealt with ovarian cancer and I had some concerns myself since I have lots of ovarian cysts. The doctor told me they typically don't worry about cysts and if there was cancer there would be a mass most likely. I wouldn't worry too much about that but I hope you figure out what it is that is happening!

This exactly! It's hard to go through pregnancy without major health issues turning up. You've also had blood work already Im sure, and if you had cancer your white blood cell count would likely be high and they would let you know. My mom was concerned about ovarian cancer not long ago and I told her they should make it routine for women to get ultrasounds of their ovaries since there are few symptoms until later on (such as bloating). Yes, they look at your ovaries when doing US. I'm terribly squeemish and tell them when they're doing it so I can look away haha. Insides freak me out!

  • Hopefully they figure out what's going on. My mother in law had ovarian cancer, while your symptoms sounds alot like it, I would agree with comments above, when you got your u/s they should have been able to see tumors, even fast grown would have been there when symptoms started, hers were. Best of luck

At first I thought maybe you had a chemical pregnancy in October, followed by a very light period, then had another chemical pregnancy in November, followed by second light period. But my husband said that typically a chemical pregnancy would be followed by a normal or heavier period. This is a personal question, but were you sexually active between positive pregnancy tests? If so, is there any chance you really were very briefly pregnanct both times?

It sounds like you need bloodwork and another ultrasound.
