Made my first purchase, what was I thinking??

I am 10+4 and we bought the stroller and infant carrier we have been eyeing for almost a year now. We had done a little window shopping while we were trying to conceive our first and then after we had a mmc, I stopped looking at baby stuff altogether. We hadn't bought anything, so nothing to worry about figuring out how to return. But since we got pregnant with this one we have been window shopping again, and I still really liked this "travel system" and there was a big sale where we got the stroller, infant carrier, and two bases with $100 off. But now I am wondering WHAT THE HECK I WAS THINKING! 30 day return policy. I wasn't planning on buying any thing at all until we were well in to 30+ weeks, just in case something goes wrong.

Someone else reassure me that they have bought baby stuff already (or tell me I am ridiculous if you must and that this was a terrible idea. I can take being flamed, I promise)

  • If you got a great deal then you can't go wrong.

  • I'm a STM, so I have most things we will need. But I definitely picked up a barely used, $220 Britax stroller I found at a consignment shop for $60 this weekend. You can't pass up that kind of deal!
  • I got a new infant car seat for about 60% a few weeks ago. I was going to wait, but I couldn't pass up that deal.

  • I'm 9+4 and we bought a lazy boy recliner for 1/3 of the price on Black Friday. DH took me to look at buy buy baby and babies r us and I hated all the gliders, so we wandered in on Friday and the rocking chair is being delivered on Saturday. I paid $300 and saved $600, hell yeah I'm buying it now!
  • When I was pregnant with DS, I bought a stroller when I was like 6 weeks pregnant.  It was a super good deal (City Micro for $50) and I have no regrets.  I still love the stroller.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • I'm feeling better and better. You all are the best! Good deals can not be passed up!
  • @Linsbins we went with a lay-z-boy rocker/recliner with our daughter and I still feel like it was on of the best purchases we made. I ended up having an emergency c-section so I slept in it for a while when we first got home and then several more nights when DD was sick. I wouldn't have been nearly as comfortable in a rocker/glider.

  • @PBear93 exactly what I thought. My parents got one when I was born and they just got rid of it to downsize. I can't believe it lasted so long! I feel like I could sleep in it later on when I'm uncomfortable. Glad to hear it's a great purchase!
  • @Linsbins get one of those pregnancy pillows for later on. I wouldn't have slept past 6 months without mine. I can't remember what it's called right now but it's basically a full body pillow that curves around to go under your head and between your legs.

  • It wasn't a big purchase, but there was nursery set that I had been eyeing even before I was pregnant. It's a swing and a bouncer. Well while shopping I saw the bouncer was on clearance and was a great deal. It wasn't a "sale" but clearance which makes me think they won't be carrying it anymore. I was only 5-6 weeks so I shouldn't have be buying anything but I didn't want to chance it. So I bought it :) lol Call me silly, but later that week we assembled it to see how it looks and it makes me happy seeing it around the house
  • I think in some ways I'm really looking forward to having some of the baby stuff around the house. Hoping it will make things start to actually feel real. I also like the idea of slowly acquiring some things to help get our dogs used to the new stuff and also figure out what we need and how much room we have.

I'm currently coveting the idea of a recliner. I'm not even sure I have room for one, but right now I believe I desperately need one. :-)
  • Heck ya I buy when there is a good deal! Baby stuff is expensive. And you have to spread it out ;)

  • Yes! I'm totally getting a snoogle. Plus that's a great point about spreading the expense- I was planning on starting after Christmas, but I just couldn't pass that up!
  • Oh yeah we are buying over here! We just ordered a crib and Im stalking Target waiting for a big baby sale to get my double stroller. Do it girl.

  • A recliner instead of a glider is such a great idea! We are waiting until the January sales as the black Friday sales in England barely reduce the prices so not really sure why they bother!
  • I bought a snoogle (I normally sleep on my stomach and this is a life saver) because it was 20% off and bought the travel system I had been eyeing because I got such a good deal.

I wasn't planning on buying anything this early, but I knew I was going to buy both- so why not get it while they are on sale?!

  • I bought some gender neutral stuff off of Carter's because it was all 60% off and now I'm anxious to buy everything else even though I'm only 10+1 haha.  Damn you black Friday!
  • Law of shopping is never pass up a good deal!

  • I think it's great!!! I'm 10+5 and I totally would've done it!!!! Keep positive thoughts, girl!! Everything is going to be fine!!
  • I did the same thing with a diaper genie from Amazon. It was half price. I've had a mmc too, but things are going well so far this time so I let myself go for it. I also figured worst case I can give it as a shower gift!
  • I found a mamaroo online for $100!!! So I bought it (used) and then brought it home and was super disappointed. No way that thing is going to soothe a baby. I then read some reviews that said the same and I re-sold it the next day.

  • I hadn't decided what I thought about those mamaroos yet. Glad you were able to resell!
  • Love it @candicek15. I feel the same way. Trying to let go of fear and just love this process for what it is in the moment!
  • Listen, the laws of shopping also say that when you get such a good deal, there are no regrets! I bought a $800 rocker/recliner arm chair for $350 two weekends ago when I was 10 +4 and I'm loving it! Take DH for a spin if he complains, hehe.
  • I bought a rock n play at like 13 weeks with our first because someone posted a deal on our BMB. I never ever regretted that purchase.

You got a deal.. Good for you!

  • I initially wanted a mamaroo but then I read a bunch of reviews on Amazon that made me second guess myself. Not sure if I should just go for a cheapie or what....
  • I bought a video baby monitor that was a Black Friday flash deal on Amazon for $89 (originally $160) so I was pretty happy about that! ...and it had good reviews!
  • I bought a Black Friday deal, too.  It was a Medela breast pump kit that lists for $299 but cost me a mere $216 with tax and shipping.  I'm leaving all the smaller stuff to my registry/shower guests, but hey, not all of my "big items" are going to be purchased for me, so I better keep an eye out for a deal!

  • DH and I popped into a local baby shop today and made our first big purchase, too-- Bugaboo 3 Cameleon! I don't think anyone is nuts, this is an exciting time for all of us and there are some great deals to be had this time of year, why not take advantage of them.
  • A great deal should never be passed up!! We've bought some gender neutral clothes (Carter's black friday) and maternity clothes (Gap black friday). Today we were trying so hard to buy a Graco 4ever all in one car seat on Target but their website was having too many issues!! It was too good of a deal to not at least try and I was disappointed we weren't able to get it :(
  • Frustrating with the website! I'm hoping most of these places will have after Christmas sales as well and we can all stock up.
