GTKY: In spirit of gratitude and giving thanks, what's the best compliment you've ever gotten? I was an English major (at least, was for the 2nd half of my college years), and one time I was in a small class, about 20 people. One of the other students read one of my papers and said I inspired him. I thought that was a really cool thing to tell someone.

My most beloved grad school professor once wrote about me in a letter of recommendation: "Katie is one of those - you know them: the hard working, go-getter type. She's going to do something special, and if you're lucky, she'll be doing it with your organization."
@mrsdee15 Jessica Jones is wonderful, and there are many a booze related gifs because of it!
Earlier this cycle, I told myself I wasn't going to drink when AF came, but now facing the reality of her impending arrival, I'm thinking about going to the store and stocking up...

@MrsDho11 I'd always prefer to err on the side of champagne, so I totally get it. I'm going to have to check Jessica Jones out. DH was a little sick of the Marvel stuff (can't swing Thor's hammer without knocking over three new Marvel movies, amirite? Ok sorry for the probably not making sense joke, I'm still half asleep), but maybe he will be into it. I've heard it's very good.

@mrsdee15 I mean, I love all things Marvel, but I get what you're saying. Fair warning though, it is VERY different from the movies. Not just because it is done in noir style but also because it's really dark! (Similar to Daredevil, but more... Psychologically). Anywho A+ would watch again!

GTKY: In spirit of gratitude and giving thanks, what's the best compliment you've ever gotten? I'm a teacher, and it means a lot to me when parents tell me how much their child has learned or loves reading because of me.

@MrsDho11 You had me at "noir." One of my favorite classes in college was a noir detective fiction class, I love that style. Sounds like it's up DH's alley too - thanks for recommending it!

GTKY: Mine was probably when my high school history teacher told me I would make a great mother and teacher after watching me during community service for kindergartners.
GTKY: A few weeks ago at work (a pediatric dental office) I had a 10yo boy ask if I could be the one to pull his tooth because "you're the only thing keeping me calm right now." It makes me feel so good when I know I'm helping to ease my patient's fears! (although in this instance I think the laughing gas helped more than I did)
And on that note, my work life in gif form:

So, it's not a compliment in the strictest sense, but I take it as a huge compliment when my students reach the point in the year when they realize that I am CHALLENGING them, not just being "mean." We have a lot of lazy/complacent teachers who don't expect much of their students, and the kids just love them to death at first. It takes a couple of months for them to realize that the "hard" teachers are the ones who actually care.
Also, WOOOO Jessica Jones!
I have posted this gif to every gif party I've ever been to, and I will post it forever and ever amen.
I worked as the child development specialist at a residential substance abuse program until we had to move. (the women there either had their children with them, or the children came for visits). One mom came back every month to bring her son to visit me and told me that I inspired her to take a child development class at her community college. Another mom told me that her daughter "wouldn't be the same" without me and that she often hears her daughter say something that "sounds like" me... (walking feet keep us safe, I need a big bubble right now ect). Anyway, this group of ladies, on my last day of work, put aside all their struggles and did a "coin out" ceremony for me... Something that is usually done for the ladies that are leaving the halfway house. I keep the coin with me in my pocketbook. These were the greatest compliment I ever received.
Edit bc I can't gif...
Okay... Going to try and gif now... Again... Bare with me < Img src=
