Growth scan revealed gender??

My husband and I don't want to find out the gender of the baby, but I'm pretty sure during our growth scan we saw its a little mister. How noticeable is gender on an ultrasound so far along? So bummed we waited all this time and now possibly saw something...

Re: Growth scan revealed gender??

  • I couldn't tell the sex of either of my children at any of the ultrasounds. Even after I was told what the sex was. Maybe you should ask the ultrasound tech.
  • Loading the player...
  • I could see the penis at 15 wks and 3 days... It's still small at that point but definitely a noticeable difference from the right angle. It definitely all depends on the angle though. If I hadn't seen that exact, in between the legs shot, I'm not sure if I would've been able to tell.

    This.
  • I can't tell at any of my ultrasounds, and I have one every week. My tech also doesn't really spend much time in that area when getting measurements.
I think it's safe to assume you probably didn't actually see.
  • I think if you actually knew what you were looking at a penis would be distinct by the time the anatomy scan is being done (certainly by 20 weeks), but I doubt you saw anything without it being pointed out.

  • No idea of the answer. But when my mom was pregnant with my sister (25 years ago), my dad "saw" a penis on the ultrasound. My sister didn't have one. My dad said he was shocked and didn't believe the doctor when she was born and they were told "it's a girl," because he "saw" a penis on the ultrasound.

(Yes, I know technology has changed since then, but just wanted to chime in).
  • All I can say is thank you for not posting a photo. I'm too tired to say any of the other usual crap I bring up with these posts.
  • Its like you didn't see what you think you saw- as keeping in mind girls parts can be quite swollen too. So even if you did see a crotch shot, it didn't neccisarily spoil your surprise.
  • It could have been a hand or the cord. Leave it to trained professionals to know the difference.
  • I had a cell free DNA test done, so I already knew the sex by the time I had my anatomy scan. That being said, I would not have been able to recognize any genitalia without it being clearly pointed out to me, or unless it was looking up at the bottom of the baby.
  • DH was sure he was looking at a penis at one point during our scan, the tech let him run with it for a few mins before pointing out we are having a girl (hee) and that what he thought was a penis was a different body part all together. So i wouldnt worry too much, its probably still safe to keep it 50/50
  • It's a surprise regardless of when you find out :)
