Just thought I would share my personal experience about contractions. Everyone is different of course. I'm 39 + 6 and pregnant with my 5th child. Braxton hicks always felt like if you were taking your blood pressure but around your waist. A tightening feeling that might take your breath away for a moment but nothing painful. Just uncomfortable. They can go on for hours but with me were never regular and always stopped with water and rest. A real contraction had the tightening but also with definite cramping in the lower abdomen and my sides. I was driving and began contracting. I had to pull over because I couldn't function through the real contractions and I was screaming from the pain. They went on every 10 minutes for a few hours and then stopped. Baby's way of getting ready for labor I guess. So real contractions do hurt and can stop even after several hours.
