Wonder Week 12 Blues

My LO is 11 weeks 2 days and has been sleeping through the night consistently since week 8. Poor girl was up at 3 am and was completely inconsolable. Never went back to sleep. Anyone else going through this? Who's seeing more fluid movements and maybe rolling over? She's not quite there yet but I think she's close.

  • I'm almost certain my lo hit this wonder week about 10 days early, and I think we are finally getting close to the end about 6 days into it! He has been eating A TON, extra cranky, and sleeping terrible unless I'm holding him. I'm also seeing lots of the skills, like rolling, more sounds, fluid motions and even the excessive spit bubbles the app mentioned. It's been a long week, so I REALLY hope this was it... I don't wanna see what's in store if it's still to come!

Anyone else have LO hit theirs early... I know the app said specifically for this leap that kids could hit it a week early, but we were close to 2 weeks early, and I'm worried it was maybe something else going on!
  • Me! My little guy is 12-1/2 weeks now and I noticed a few things this past week. All of a sudden one night last week he was able to stay up on his arms during tummy time and hold his head up for a really long period of time and continues to do so, and he rolled over from belly to back for the second time (the first was really early at 6 weeks). He also is really great at holding objects now, and is super smiley when you talk to him. And he's more fascinated with lights than ever.

He had a rough week last week in regard to sleep at night, but he seems to be coming out of it now, thank goodness! He was sleeping through the night before, so waking up 2-3 times with him again at night (the same week I went back to work) was tough!
  • My girl is too young for the 3WW but she is showing a few things like spit bobbles and wanting to roll over.
A funny story - she was in her gym being all happy and playing by herself. She could be there for hours! I left her to pump and my husband left to let the dog out. About 5 minutes later her comes in and asks why I have moved the baby over to the floor.... I didn't! She moved herself about a foot away from the mat.
  • What are these wonder weeks everyone talks about?
  • What are these wonder weeks everyone talks about?

They are developmental growth spurts that generally happen around certain times. During these times babies are usually cranky but come out with new skills after the week(s) are over.

You can google about it. There is an app for 2$ that has most of the info and I find to be helpful for the price. I don't think I would pay more for the book though.
  • @Kayciejoe56 thank you! I'm intrigued now, are they pretty spot on?
  • Yes!! For my little one they have been really accurate! I find its easier for me to handle the fussiness/clinginess when I understand why and the reason behind it! Great investment, $2, lol for the app!
  • @Kayciejoe56 thank you! I'm intrigued now, are they pretty spot on?

Yup! First 2 wonder weeks were exactly on time (it goes by due date, not birth date). This last one came a little early, but it was noted in the app that it could happen.

As for the week itself... both the signs/symptoms and acquired skills have been pretty spot on! Even my mom impressed, and she started out with that mocking look that grandma's like to give... the whole "we never had that" lol. But after 1 day with lo, during his last wonder week, I read her all the info from the app and she was amazed!
  • @Kayciejoe56 I definelty thinking about getting the app. My struggle will be what to put for the due date though. I had 2 EDD's that were 15 days apart and he ended up being born via csection on the first date. I don't believe he was born 2 weeks early so I'll just put the first date I guess and see if he's on track or not
  • I never heard of wonder weeks either. Interesting.
  • I bought the app a few weeks ago thanks to you ladies since I never heard of wonder weeks before. I also bought the book. I wanted to be prepared before the 12 week leap hits any day now since I didn't even know about any of this for the last 2 leaps. Just a plus for being in this forum - like how we all can teach as well as learn from others!

This is us tonight.  It's 4 am.  Little man has been up since 1:30 and finally fell back to sleep in my arms.  We tried so many different ways to soothe him, but nothing else worked.  Hello Mental Leap 3...

  • I think we're in the middle of ours. We went from sleeping through the night or almost to up 3-4 times... Oh and she rolled over once on her own but almost rolled over multiple times yesterday... No more swaddle... That could also be part of the problem but Don't want to risk anything happening.
  • Has anyone else noticed an exaggerated startle reflex during this wonder week?  My LO just had two very intense Moro episodes when I put him down to change him.  He hasn't startled as badly as that since he was only a couple weeks old.  The poor guy looked terrified, then started screaming and crying.  Up until now, the Moro reflex seemed to have been disappearing.  Now I'm not sure what to think.
  • Hey girls, mine is 9.5 and super active, trying to get fists in mouth when swaddled. I have the app too but was curious if your had these symptoms in the 9/10week? 1 day away from the happy face....
  • What is the name of the app?

LO just went through her 3rd leap. She started about 4 days early. I notice a ton more babble and spit bubbles and we're so close to rolling over. She gets half way there and flops back on her belly.

To the mama's finding out about The Wonder Weeks, keep in mind it is by due date, not birth date!
  • Mine seems to be starting hers. Anyone notice your LO "practicing" before drifting off to sleep? Mine loves to make the same sounds over and over again from "A-boo, A-boo, A-boo" to "Eh, Eh, Eh".

  • We went straight from Leap 3 into a growth spurt.  Yaaaaaaay...

All I want for Christmas is sleep.
