New to IF

Hi,

My name is Erica and my husband and I have been NTNP for #1 since December 2014 and actively trying with charting and OPKs since April 2015. I noticed pretty early on that I tend to ovulate between CD19-CD21 and get AF an average of 8 days later. After 5 or so cycles of charting with LPs as low as 6,7, and 8 days, I went to my OBGYN to get some initial testing done to check my progesterone. Progesterone after multiple draws during my August LP showed levels of ~2 and 4, which did not indicate ovulation (>5), even though my chart showed a clear (though low) temperature shift. Next cycle I requested to to go an RE, where an U/S on CD21 confirmed ovulation. RE told me that based on my charts and blood tests, I had luteal phase defect and my two options were to try progesterone starting at 3dpo or move on to Clomid to produce a stronger ovulation and hopefully better hormone expression. I chose to try progesterone first and was put on 8% crinone. AF arrived 10 days later. Took a couple of cycles off from the RE so I could hit the official 1-year mark to qualify for IF coverage for my insurance.

I have an appointment on December 9th (CD12) to discuss future steps. Hoping to try progesterone one more time since it will be too late in my cycle for Clomid, then in move on to a HSG in January. Another note, DHs SA came back with no worrisome numbers, so all seems well with him.

Emotionally, I'm a bit of a mess today (CD1) because my last cycle had a 10 day LP (no crinone!) and I let myself get hopeful. Hopefully I can be a valuable member of this board and offer my support to those who are on this IF journey as well.

Re: New to IF

  • Hi @MrsDepo - welcome to the community... nice to meet you! Sorry to hear about your luteal phase defect. Admitting you're dealing with infertility can be incredibly emotional, then to have a long LP and get your hopes up just to crushed... awful and cruel we know! We've all been there and continue to have our down days. It's not an easy road to be on, but at least you have some ladies here to support you along the way. Big hugs to you. Hope its a short stay with us for the best of reasons ;)
