Stranger danger !!!

Oy!!! My LO is obsessed with mama. I've stayed home with her since birth and she's still nursing and my little angel isn't interested in hanging out or being held by anyone but my husband or myself. In fact, every time she even looks at some strangers, especially my brother when he visits, she goes ballistic.

Anyone else out there with LOs terrified of anyone but their parents ?

Re: Stranger danger !!!

  • Our daughter has been more wary of strangers recently but she won't cry around them usually. Particularly somebody she sees on a regular basis. But I'm not a SAHM, she's been in daycare since 2 months old. It could also be separation anxiety. My daughter has recently taken to crying when I leave her line of sight. It might help to hold her while around unfamiliar people, that way she can still hold mommy if needed.

  • My son is the same way ^^
He used to smile and babble away at anyone he saw, but now when a stranger talks to him he just stares them down! It's kind of funny, especially the look he gets on his face. He doesn't really cry around strangers unless he's hungry or overtired, but I think he gets separation anxiety too. I stay at home with him all day and then when I go to school for the night he cries and isn't himself till I get home. It helps for me to not be holding him all the time! Most of the day I have him play by himself in his play pen or on the floor (obviously I'm still around and will play with him sometimes), but even if he cries and I know he's not hungry or tired I just resist going to pick him up so that he knows he doesn't always need me to hold him or be with him. Ever since I started doing that he's been a little better about others holding him and being put down for long periods of time.

Or maybe your LO just gets a weird vibe from certain people? My son is usually okay around my brother, but one day he came over and my son just wasn't having it. He would cling to me and get all scared and look away from my brother, and would be fine if he left the room. And he's usually never like that, even with my brother. So I don't know! Maybe see how she acts around different people, maybe she's more comfortable around certain people and more uneasy around others.
  • Thanks ladies! We were at my in laws over thanksgiving and she seemed to do well being around people... But would not let anyone hold her. I'm starting a new job in January so I guess she will have to get acclimated to others caring for her soon !
