Safe med for runny nose in first tri

Anyone have suggestions for a medicine or natural remedy that will dry up a runny nose? I'm suffering so badly! Trying to let this cold just takes its course, but it's taking a while.

  • Thanks @hockeyfan42 but I'm scared to take anything becaysd just like your dr said, supposed to avoid meds in the first trimester. Just another reason to wish I was in my second trimester already!

Have you tried saline drops for your nose? My OB recommends that for congestion along with a warm, wet compress on your sinus area and keeping your room heat lower so the air isn't overly dry.

  • Maybe a neti pot will help? I was able to get rid of a sinus infection using one several times a day. My doctor ok'd it. Good luck!
  • If you use a neti pot, use filtered water only. There a good non medical way to flush the sinuses. :)

I recommend a virgin hot toddy. Hot water, fresh lemon juice, and a little honey. It will help you soothe he nasal and through cavities, ease the congestion and the vitamin c and honey (esp. Local live if you have it) will help you recover without any risk.

As @HBamama2B and @arteduc8 say, the neti pot is brilliant if you are really snotty!
  • Yes, I only use distilled water and warm it in the microwave in a glass measuring cup when I use my neti pot. Tap water can cause infections, while rare, still a concern. I usually get the best results after a warm shower.
  • I gave in and took Tylenol for my cold today. Doc ok'd it. I have much more than a runny nose, though. This cold is really messing with my asthma which isn't good. I hope you feel better soon!
