  • I am preparing myself to go Black Friday shopping. I can't believe I'm even saying that because after the first time I ever went, I vowed I would never do it again. H has to work though and we are leaving for my parents right after he gets off, so I'm going to get some Christmas shopping done.

I will also be treating myself to a nice warm treat from Caribou or Starbucks. Let's do this.
  • We are going to explore my brother in laws town today. Put on my clothes and realized that second helping of stuffing is SHOWING. I'm unapologetically calling it a baby bump (even if I should clarify to people that it is just a food baby bump)
  • Pumpkin pie is a vegetable right? So it's ok that I had a small slice for a snack at 9:30am?

Also I really wish I could take advantage of the Black Friday sales. There are some things the kids really need that are on super sale, but I have zero spending money right now because I just payed the last half is ds's tuition. I'm super bummed about it, way more than I should be. All I would need is $100 to finish most of Christmas shopping.*selfish grumble*

I'm really considering formula feeding from day one this time. No medical reason. I FF my first because I was working FT and had anxiety about bfing. My second I started out BF and had a horrible 3 months of pumping, mastitis, supply drop, trying everything, etc. I think it contributed to my PPD.
Honestly I have no desire to try BF again. The only reason I'm not 100% decided is because of cost.

Eating leftover cheesy potatoes and turkey for breakfast. Throwing in a Twinkie and lemonade for good measure.

  • I had pumpkin pie for breakfast. I now have raging heartburn.
    No apologies.
ALSO while I love Christmas, I hate Christmas shopping. I am going to put it off as long as possible. I honestly hate the gift exchange, I like watching DD open gifts and that's it. I cannot stand the back and forth about what people want for Christmas, then ending up getting them either exactly what they asked for or a gift card, neither of which are any fun. I just think Christmas would be way way better sans gifts.
  • @AmberLiz99 -- There's lots of great reasons to breastfeed obviously but I hate the whole "breast is best" rhetoric. Moms have enough to worry about and there's lots of valid reasons not to breastfeed. That said, I have heard good things about doulas and lactation consultants--they may be able to help make breastfeeding an easier process for you (since you mentioned some physical problems last time).
  • H had to get up early and go to work today. I was going to get up and be productive around the house, but I'm still in bed (and loving it!)

I totally get it, BF can be painful, tiring and hard work. The only major downside to FF is you lose out on all the antibodies to protect the baby from coughs and colds. This is annoying when you have other kids as they bring everything home from school! Maybe it might be an option to do both, mainly FF but topping up with BF, I'm not an expert but have heard of women using both.
  • @Atlast111 I did a combination with dd for a while. The problem for me was that with the combo I couldn't keep up enough supply to make it worth it,or I would constantly feel uncomfortably full. I might still do it for a month or two, but I'm not sure

My experiences with lactation consultants have been terrible. Not ever to try that again

Yes, I know what you mean about supply. I honesty understand that BF is a pain in the ass but in my mind, any amount of time you can manage is better than none.
I have also heard that often babies differ in how efficiently they feed. Hopefully you will get a champion feeder this time that makes it extra easy! Bizarrely lots of women say the experience was very different when feeding different children.I'm just going to give it my best shot and see how I go!
  • @AmberLiz99 your baby will be fine no matter what. You do you, girl! I was a formula fed baby and I'm pretty awesome.

I love Black Friday shopping. I'm not getting in any fights, but $2 towels and $3 pillows at target? Sign me up! Might have gotten a big tv too while I was there...
  • We hosted dinner yesterday and I feel like I ran a marathon. I'm laying on the couch considering a nap while DD watches a movie and hubs is cleaning. We leave to go to my aunt's in an hour and a half for more Thanksgiving dinner, and I'm so tired, I might not even shower.

  • @msuzannah, oh boy, god help the person who gives me shit for what I'm eating during my pregnancy. You don't have to live in my body, lady!

My first is made out of gummy candies and salt and vinegar chips.

Last time I was pregnant a lady yelled at me for eating ramen noodles because they were terrible for the baby. This time around I've done more research and sure ramen has the nutritional value of cardboard but if it's what my body will hold down then I'm going to eat it.

I'm sick with throat junk and that's all I've been eating! And loving it.

  • I haven't buttoned my pants in at least two weeks. Whoops.
  • @AmberLiz99 I know you mentioned the cost of FF might be a problem. Did you try pumping last time? I didn't know if maybe that would be an easier option for you than trying to BF baby straight from the breast. A lot of insurance companies offer free breast pumps so you might be able to get one for free. I'm a FTM so I don't know if pumping is any easier than feeding baby.

For what it's worth I was a FF baby and I turned out awesome too lol

This! I am considering naming this baby Snickers or French fries.

I pumped and BF for 7 months with my last. FWIW, pumping is harder than BF and a pump is much less efficient than any baby. Though I do know many women who EP. It's definitely not impossible, but isn't exactly the "easy way out".

  • @AmberLiz99 tell haters to lay off. I've been breastfeeding my first and only for 19 months, and it was kind of hard at first and we've had a few rough patches, but overall, no big deal and I actually like it. But I watched a close friend struggle for nearly a year to breastfeed her first - taking drugs to increase supply, having to supplement, struggling to get his weight up at first (he was premature), struggling mightily with PPD through all this...when she mentioned she was going to FF her second from the start I was so relieved on her behalf. There are lots of benefits to breastfeeding but there's gotta be some consideration of if it's helping your parenting or ruining your life.
  • I'm going to have to FF because of medications I take. And it's ok.

I totally get this. I had latch issues with my first baby and low supply with my second baby. Both times a "Lactation consultant" made me cry by saying that I was being selfish and starving my baby by not using formula. This was before I even left the hospital, before my supply even had a chance to come in. I still will try this time, but I'm promising myself that I won't feel like a failure if I cant. I had horrible depression from not being able to breastfeed and it took months for me to bond with my first because I didn't feel like a "real mom".

My fffc is that I always premixed formula in Medela bottles so I wouldnt get side eyes from people...even though it's fairly easy to see the difference. It made me feel better.

@AmberLiz99 Nobody's business but yours. I also won't be breastfeeding. I probably will pump, just because I've already got the pump from last time, but I'm not going to invest all the stress in BF that I did last time because I thought it was the thing I was supposed to do.

ETA: And by "nobody's business but yours," I mean "I support your choice and am glad you shared it and hope you don't feel like you have to explain yourself." Someday the Internet will get fonts that communicate sentiment...
