im 18 weeks pregnant and i really want to want to get my tongue pierced. and i know most places wont touch a pregnant women but what if its my choice to lie to them. to get it done i know some moms have done it. just want to know the risks
Honestly, I wouldn't lie to them. Just find one that is willing to do it to a pregnant woman or wait. If something goes wrong, you want them to be prepared with the fact that you're pregnant or else you'll put your baby at risk. Especially if the piercing becomes infected. Tongue infections are really bad and could require professional medical help. If you really can't wait, find a professional piercer who is willing to do it. Most likely you could get it done if you sign a waiver so that they cannot be held responsible for anything bad that happens.
You should wait. When you are pregnant your body changes, i.e. Skin becomes more sensitive and you are more susceptible to infection because your immune system is considered compromised now. You could very well reject the piercing, and I know from experience, tongue piercings are one of the riskiest piercings. Things that could go wrong for a tongue piercing are: infections caused by the mass amounts of bacteria in the mouth and tongue, endocarditis (bacteria entering the bloodstream causing inflammation of the inner layer of the heart and it's valves), prolonged bleeding, nerve damage, gum disease, tooth damage.
Those are risks for a tongue piercing even when you are NOT pregnant. Imagine the risks multiplied by ten because you are pregnant.
I am not being judgmental, but why willingly do something that could potentially cause some very real harm to you and your baby during this time? There are already so many natural health added risks that happen during pregnancy why add another one?

Talk to your OB about it and if they approve, ask them to sign something for the piercer.
That said, I doubt they'll approve. Pregnant women are way more likely to develop gum disease and other oral issues because of increased blood flow and reduced immune response. If it was an ear/nose I would be more inclined to think they would agree, but the tongue is a major infection/rejection risk already. Probably better to wait until after you heal up post delivery.
I don't understand why you would risk it. You can't wait another 5 months to get it? If a piercer won't do it, there's generally a good reason why. Usually it's because of blood infections.
I have no idea I was asking actually lol. I was thinking you would because of how much pain youre in, you might bite down too hard or something?...Just something could go wrong with it in your mouth during labor I'm thinking haha.

Lol OK. I read that to my extremely drunk Fiancé last night, and he went on this long story about how you could chip a tooth from screaming. (He's never had any piercings, and I took mine out right before I met him)
I was told that piercings have to come out in case your heart stops during delivery, and they have to use the defib. The metal can sear your skin. Whether this is true or not, I have no idea. I'm way too lazy right now to hunt down a scientific answer.
If your piercings are metal, then yes, you will have to take them out during any major medical hospital stay for that very reason. They can also get too hot if you eat hot foods, such as fresh pizza. My sister's tongue got a major infection and she had to permanently remove her tongue ring from eating a hot piece of pizza while the piercing was in. If you're using plastic, you probably don't have to take them out for hospital stays, but you might want to take them out for hot foods and drinks. Cheap plastics can melt and that will still cause infection.
haha ugh I'm gone for a couple days and I miss everything!
But really? You're going to lie about being pregnant? K cool.
i'm not sure about taking piercings out during labor because I had already taken out my body piercings by that time and I def didn't wear earrings to be induced.

Exactly what @pinottoparenthood said. I would also like to throw out there that if you do happen to find a piercer who is willing to pierce a pregnant woman, please run far, far away, whether you're pregnant or not. The end.

I'm lost! Who lied about being pregnant!?
Something about considering lying about being pregnant, I assume. I'm too lazy to find it.
Getting my tongue pierced would be the last thing I'd want, since I'm still throwing up occasionally. Plus, the swelling would prevent my constant grazing, and I love food. Eww, vomit in the tongue hole.
I actually do not remember having to take my nose ring or earrings out during L&D with DD. I'm sure its possible I did? I never take them out, otherwise I probably wouldn't have out then in the morning I went to be induced. I did have to take any piercings out when I had surgery a few years back, so maybe as a precautionary if you ended up needed a c-section they would have you remove piercings.
And seriously, I can't even take the OP seriously, why oh why would you risk something so incredibly unnecessary at this stage in your life? Besides, tongue piercing equals swelling and I just want to eat all the things, NOTHING better get in my way of that right now.

I wore all my jewelry through l&d -necklace, wedding ring, toe ring, and maybe stud earrings if I had some in, but I can't remember.
Not going to lie, I'll be a little sad if I have to take my gauges out during L&D. I've been stretching my ears for 4 years now, and when they start shrinking back it's a b*tch to fit them back in again.

I have metal tragus peircings that I was allowed to keep in. They didn't ask me to take anything out. If you're worried, maybe out in a wood/plastic pair of gauges just in case.

This. I don't have gauges so I don't know how difficult they are to change, but it'd be worth trying wood or plastic. The plastic ones I've seen are also really fun!

Oh my gosh.. Point -2 for dunce Kalani again lmao I don't even know why I didn't think of silicone gauges. -____-

Ha, I told my SIL it was "three seventy" looking at my digital clock the other day. Then I couldn't figure out how to say 7:30 for a solid minute.
