Thanksgiving (USA) plans

Hi ladies!

It being Thanksgiving tomorrow in USA, I was curious what your Thanksgiving plans are.

Still waiting for your LO to arrive?
LO already arrived?

As for me:
I really wasn't planning anything and turns out my LO arrived the week before, I really didn't have time to think about it.
Turns out my in laws and DH planned it all- so all LO and I have to do is show up, eat and do whatever we want.
I will have the comfort of privacy for BFing- plan to bring a supplemental just in case it's needed. Hopefully not- pumps are arriving today and I hope to have some milk in stock for tomorrow if I get too tired with all the people.

I'm not letting anyone hold LO except the grandparents and the parents.

Re: Thanksgiving (USA) plans

  • My original plan was to not do anything because I assumed I would still be pregnant. My LO arrived almost 3 weeks early so now we will be heading out to the family dinner.

I'm not really looking forward to it but I hope it goes well.

  • My LO is 3 weeks old today and we are heading to my sister's house (about 30min away) for the day. The family will all be there (all adults no little kids) and I'm excited since LO has been extra fussy these past few days so it will be nice to have extra hands for help when I just need a quick break! My DH and I are bringing the green bean casserole and the deviled eggs (which will be prepped at our house and put together at my sister's) so not too bad...everybody else is bringing soemthing and my Mom and Aunt are making the turkey...I'm so ready for a fun filled day!
  • LO is 2wks 4days. We will be attempting the double Thanksgiving. Lunch with DH extended family, dinner with my immediate family. I'm going to try and bake cookies, but no ones asked me to bring a thing.
  • We are headed to my parents house. It will just be my immediate family. I somehow made an apple pie today while alone with DD. She hung out and watched me with such interest from her RNP!
  • Original plan was to do nothing, because today was my due date. Since DD was almost 4 weeks early we are now hosting a small thanksgiving, 11 people. I am making a few appetizers today and DH is taking care of everything else (which is the only reason I agreed to host).

  • My LO will be 2 weeks on Friday. Every thanksgiving we go to multiple houses. My grandma (my moms side) my great grandma (my dads side) & whatever house my fiancé's family is celebrating at that year. So it's exhausting. Not sure if I'll be going to my dads side this year since no one has called/texted about LO & I'm a bit bitter about it. Fiancé said we have to but I don't see why baby is still little & it shouldn't be expected of us specially when they haven't even acknowledged his existence.
  • I'm still pregnant, 39.5 weeks. My back has been hurting so bad that I've told my family and my ILs that I'll be staying home; I need to be able to lay down in my bed for a while to relieve my back, since sitting hurts like heck and laying on the couch doesn't help at all. The only thing that helps is laying in bed for a while, so I'd prefer to stay home so I can do that whenever I need. I'll be making a small dinner for just DH and I, and we'll probably watch movies all day.
  • Going toy aunts first then the ILs I hopefully will only be there for great grands and a great aunt to hold baby then leave. (Ex ILs, not excited about going)
  • My family is coming here. Mom and SIL are going to cook - I'm not expected to do a thing so that's a win. My dad and little brother haven't met Zeke yet so I'm looking forward to them meeting him
  • It's my due date. I'd love to be having a baby but I know that's slim.
Our families wanted to come to us and on Sunday I told them if the baby wasn't here we wanted to be alone. We are thinking of taking my 3.5 year old to the movies and laying low.
  • We're going to my in laws for dinner. My DH invited my parents too, so they will be there to annoy me. Only my mom hovers over me staring at me waiting for me to have this baby. She gets on my nerves. We were asked to only bring a bottle of wine, but I baked the past two days out of boredom so I will be bringing baked goodies. I am looking forward to getting out of the house even though the hour ride is uncomfortable and I will want to pee myself. I will also be looking forward to not having to leave early to go work Black Friday retail ( I am a store manager)
  • We're Having my immediate family of 4 come over so there will be a whopping six and baby total I'm cooking for. My IL's get togethers always have a minimum of 15-20 people and as DD is only 4 weeks tomorrow and I'm beyond paranoid of her getting sick - skipping out on that; Frankly it's better as I'm still feeling overwhelmed by all the people attempting to swoop in and nab the baby anytime they're around her. Either way, yummy food.
Also- absolutely looking forward to snuggling with the husband and LO while watching the parade.

Best of luck to you! For what it's worth, today my doctor said she sees 80% of babies arrive within two days before or after their due date, since their dating scans are pretty accurate. Maybe tomorrow's your day!

I'm only a "fingertip" dialated, due on Saturday, so it seems tomorrow will be an uneventful Thanksgiving. We're hosting a thanksgiving breakfast in the morning, and spending time with the ILs and immediate family for the rest of the day. I'm just making stuffing and asparagus, so not too much to worry about.
  • My EDD was 11/28 so we hadn't made specific plans but since she came a few weeks early, my parents are here but they are cooking!
  • Baby will be 2 weeks on Friday and my parents are here, so just us and DH. Small family and a big ass turkey. I'm content.

Thanks! I hope so. My daughter was induced due to high BP at 40+5 and took 2 days to come. I hope this one is a little more cooperative!
  • We are hosting thanksgiving here for people my husband works with, and while everyone in theory is supposed to be bringing something, I haven't heard what anyone is bringing. So basically the cooking for all the staples is on me. I have made 3 pies to get the dessert taken care of ahead of time. And today has been a whole bunch of cleaning so that the house will be presentable tomorrow. At least tomorrow I'll have my husband here to assist, because just the prep for thanksgiving has been exhausting with a 3 week old.
  • Pretty much hoping that I'll be spending thanksgiving giving birth because I'm so scared of getting induced Monday.

But of course, because she seems pretty comfy in there, I'll probably spend thanksgiving eating a hearty meal of pineapple, Chinese food and balsamic vinegar lol.
  • I'm also hoping that the LO decides to make his appearance when we're pulling the turkey out of the oven (or maybe hoping contractions start right after the meal).  Due 11/28 but no dilation and OB says he's still really high and she expects to see me at my next appt on Dec 2 :(  .  The in laws are coming over to cook us food since we're so close to the due date and don't have any family in town to visit.  I actually asked them to come, which in hindsight was basically asking them to drive 4 hours up here to cook food for us, but I'm happy to have something to look forward to instead of sitting with DH just waiting for contractions....

Making taco soup and going to my moms house... DS is 4 weeks old and we planned to go Illinois to be with family but grandma isn't feeling too great so we may end up out there in the end.. But for now the plan is to watch the parade and enjoy various food (we are doing a pot luck with some of my moms friends) at my moms..

If taco soup sounds interesting you can gladly ask for the recipe and I will gladly post it!! It's always a big hit at parties!!

  • Hubby and I are staying home and ordering pizza. We don't wanna travel with a 2 week old...especially not a 2 and a half hour ride. I'm also still recovering from my c section so we think it'd be best.
  • Due Monday & we told both families we were skipping festivities this year and doing something on our own. I don't want to be a side show and have everyone come up to rub my belly...I'm not Buddha! I'm thankful that so many people wanted to make sure we had somewhere to go if we wanted to, but I would have been more thankful if this baby had decided it was ready to make its entrance!
  • @oorl11052015 post that recipe! I'm interested :)

EDD was monday, kiddo showed up early and is 11 days old. Our original plan was to stay home and have frozen meals or something, but my dad and in laws made plans when they came to visit us in the hospital to show up and bring dinner. It was pretty fantastic, we're taking a short break while I BF before pie and cake (it's also my birthday!)
  • We ended up staying home. I was already nervous about exposing the baby to so many people, but she woke up congested and has coughed a few times. No fever. But I'm not risking it when her already poor immune system might be compromised:(

Oh I feel you! Or the "hey did you try standing on your head on a raft in the middle of the ocean? I heard that induces labor..."

    @oorl11052015 post that recipe! I'm interested :)

I use frozen corn if I don't have fresh corn.. And I never add onion and it doesn't hurt the taste if you don't add it!! I use beef broth and I do the little bouillon cubes and they work great!! I also use pinto and black beans instead.. But I froze a lot of this!! My DH loves it!!

    Taco soup:
    All cans 15 oz
    1 can tomatoes
    1 can rotel tomatoes
    1 can kidney beans
    1 can white kidney beans
    1 can refried beans
    1 cup corn
    1 medium onion chopped
    1 pouch taco seasoning
    2 cups broth.

If you don't drain the beans use less broth. Just mix all in a pan. Don't forget cheese and sour cream and tortilla chips.

    Right!! It's amazing!!
  • Looks like our Thanksgiving plans will be to have this sweet little baby!! Hope everyone is having a great day celebrating with their loved ones.

We did the same! Baby girl was born in the afternoon, and we had friends come by and bring us leftovers at the birth center (our families are not close by and did not make it out yet).
