Low milk supply??

The past week or so, my LO has seemed so dissatisfied after nursing and our nursing sessions last for 45 minutes to an hour at least. He has been exclusively breast fed, but this week I have started 'topping him off' with formula or any pumped breastmill I have stored if he still acts hungry after nursing and he immediately goes back to abeing the happy baby he normally is. We have also been traveling the past two days and I have been bottle feeding him pumped milk in the car so we don't have to stop frequently for long nursing sessions and make the already long trip longer. While I feed him in the car, I pump to replace the nursing session. I have been pumping for 45 minutes to mimic the nursing sessions and am lucky to get 1.5 ounces. I know LO is the most efficient 'pump' and I shouldn't gauge what he's getting off of what I pump, but it's hard not too worry. I am going to make an appointment with a lactation consultant when I get home from Thanksgiving and have ordered fenugreek, and drinking water and Gatorade. Do you think I am struggling with producing enough milk? Do you have any other advice??

My LO has been exclusively BF, he is 6 weeks next Tuesday and today is the last day he is getting Breastmilk. My supply dried up without explanation, I tried fenugreek, tea, and dark beer and nothing helped. In the beginning I was getting an oversupply so luckily I stocked up the freezer but then my supply just started to drop out of no where. When I noticed the drop I started feeding him Breastmilk mixed with formula so he can get used to it. I would try the fenugreek and mothers milk tea, and if it doesn't help you might just be drying up like I did.

  • You could be stressed about driving and your milk supply could be suffering because of it. Or if you changed things up so drastically with traveling your LO could be eating more seeking comfort. Be patient, try to relax (I know easier said than done when it comes to supply worries) and see if that makes a difference. I work myself up about my milk supply sometimes but then when I weigh LO he is gaining just fine. I did struggle with low supply at the start though so I know how emotional it can be.
