Shoes

At what age do you start putting shoes on LO? Right now my 11 weeker is wearing cute socks and occasionally fuzzy slipper. Wondering at what point would you get real shoes. Thinking i might buy some over Black Friday and not sure what size to get.

Re: Shoes

  • I bought little converse (size 1) for my 10 week old. They are a little big but they tie so they won't come off.
  • Loading the player...
  • We did not do shoes with my first until he could walk. With DD I bought a pair for pictures but that's it. We just do socks.

This is exactly what I did. For pictures, I actually had socks that looked like they were shoes. Sort of like this:

  • I also waited until my LO's were starting to walk to get real shoes. I have used booties in the winter for an extra layer of warmth.
  • I've actually been putting my LO in shoes when we go somewhere since she was born. Figured it not only completes the outfit and keeps her feet warm but it's good for her to get comfortable with wearing them for when she starts walking.
  • I don't put my kids in shoes until they are walking and even then it's only if we will be out and they will be walking. Developmentally it's better for them to be without shoes.

This is also what I read. I might as well save the shoe budget for when my little guy actually needs them. You know once high school comes around he'll be wanting the "cool" $100 pair ;)

Oh those $100 (or $200+!) shoes happen well before high school. More like 3rd or 4th grade!

  • No shoes until walking. I have her in fleece booties now though to keep her feet warm. They stay on better than socks.
  • I use shoes as cute little accessories lol but 9 out of 10 times he's not wearing them and just uses warm socks or sleepers
  • Around 9 months for events or 1 year for real.

  • @TeacherMom210 I have these exact socks! My SIL got them for me and I get so many complements.
  • I got some Freshly Picked Crib Mocassins because I couldn't resist. They are so cute. They keep her socks on too. And every time we're out I get compliments.
The no shoe thing is for when you have a pre-walker or new walker, so they can feel the floor to develop the walking foot and ankle muscles. I got some soft soled shoes for DD1 for outside walking, Robeez.

    Same here!
  • We don't do hard soled shoes until they're walking outside. I started using soft soled shoes (like robeez and padraigs) shortly after birth because it's cold here!
