STM Double strollers help!

I searched and didn't see this was talked about yet. I need help finding a double stroller that isn't a monster. I just bought a Graco Ready2Grow click connect double stroller tonight, used. My husbands cousin had it super cheap. Well I went to put in my trunk and it is huge. I have a 2012 Toyota Camry. Its has a huge trunk. It took us 20 minutes to get it in my trunk. There is no way I can keep this. Ive looked into them and the all seem huge and cheaply made. Any recommendations?

Re: STM Double strollers help!

  • Yeah that stroller is huge! I've been looking at the city select and mountain buggy duet. (Plus even more high end - Phil & Teds and vista) Not sure how big those are folded up. Lucies list has a lot of double stroller reviews. I'm hoping I can find one used as I'm looking at $500+ for those!

I want the city select soooo bad but it just isn't in our budget. I've looked into others but don't really know which ones are the most compact since I have an SUV so size isn't much of an issue. I may have pinned some so I'll go look for you.

  • There are a few highly reviewed doubles; the City select; UPPA vista 2015 and Oyster Max 2, were my 3 favorites. Britax B Ready is also good and cheaper than the others I think! We read hundreds of reviews and looked at lots of different brands (icandy, egg, joolz etc) but these 4 seemed the best out of them all!

I kind of discounted them as I don't like the thought of getting stuck in doorways!

Yup, me!  I'm thinking the Joovy might be my pick since it looks like the only side by side tall enough to fit my three year old.

  • I like the idea of side by side. My girlfriend has a bob side by side and she prefers it over the city select. In my dream world where I'm very rich-I'd have both.

Stores and other public places have to make their doors wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs. Most side by sides fit the wheelchair requirement size.

  • I have a baby trend double jogger. It's heavy and doesn't fit through a single door way. It's awesome for jogging though. Since its big it holds my three year old well and my neighbors 4 year old has ridden in it comfortably. It stays in my garage and doesn't travel with us. I had a baby trend sit and stand with both seats before and it fit in our trunk of the Corolla, but it was clunky and hard to push one handed.

The mountain buggy duet is a side by side that is the same width as their single stroller. The seats are both 11" wide instead of 14" (which I think is typically standard?) But, I can't find it instore anywhere in my area, only online. Not sure how much room DS needs!

You come a cropper with houses though as many standard doors arent wide enough in people's homes. It can be a problem for visiting people that live in apartments as a lot of apartments in the UK are conversions so narrow.
I also don't like the feeling that I'm hogging all the pavement...lol. I guess it's just a preference.

I guess you can just collapse the pram before bringing it in.
  • I had the City Mini Double, we never met a door I couldn't get through. However, if you do a lot of shopping at malls and such, the clothing racks are too close together. It's way easier to push than a tandem. Now, I have the City Select double...it's great too, but there's things I miss about the mini.
  • I cannot decide if I want to buy a double or not!  My DS very rarely rides in a stroller now and I feel like if she wants to ride it would be easier to wear baby.  I would like a sit & stand or something like that, I haven't done much research yet.  When I say very rarely I mean like once every few months or so.

I think a piggy back board sounds like a great idea. The doubles can be pretty expensive and there is nothing worse than spending loads of money and then not using what you have!

That does sound great! We don't go very many places we would need a stroller for either child, but I like to be prepared just in case.  We are on a tight budget with what we are buying.  Luckily MIL has all of our nephews furniture NEVER used at her house that we are getting so my only big cost will be car seats and stroller.

I think there are some more affordable double umbrella stroller out there too. Still about $150... https://www.lucieslist.com/best-double-umbrella-stroller/

That's fantastic that your MIL has everything already for you! Umbrellas are great as they are low cost and light. The only problem you might find is that they don't always lie flat, which they recommend for newborns for the first few months. What they expect mums to do for the first 3-6 months I have no idea! The only way round this is to get one with a bassinet but they are pricey. Newborn will probably be fine in umbrella if it is for short trips.
  • I'm also torn on the double stroller.  We will probably get one, but we almost never use ours now with our 13 month old.  We wear her everywhere.  We used it religiously when she was in her carrier and still napping everywhere.  So part of me wants to use the britax b agile for the newborn and wear my toddler.  But she'll be 20 months when the baby is born and I have no clue if she'll still want to be worn.  :/

Anybody looked at side by side strollers?

I actually would prefer a side by side but fell in love with the city select. I will probably end up with a baby trend double jogger expedition. I've got a friend who has it and loves it. I've also looked at a few schwinns that fit through doors.

  • I think I want the Joovy Caboose Ultralight. I'll probably wear the new baby most of the time to begin with, but my husband likes to use a stroller and will like the infant car seat adapter option. #1 will turn three a couple of months after the baby arrives, so I like the sit/stand option for her.

  • I have the Joovy Caboose and I love it! It's not super heavy. My oldest was 2 when my 2nd was born and it was perfect. She loved sitting or standing like a big girl on the back.
  • I could go on for days about the city select. I LOVE it. Can fit through anywhere. Easy to collapse--- collapses so compactly. Seats recline all the way for naps... It's just perfection.
