I have a growing number of pregnancy books already, but several of my friends have told me I MUST get WTEWYE. Is it really all that it's hyped up to be?
I really like it, but I also have the Mayo Clinic book, and I don't think I really need both. It's pretty redundant information. If you already have some that tell you what you need to know each month, you're probably fine.
I bought it for my first pregnancy and while I did enjoy it, I really LOVED Your Pregnancy Week by Week. I bought the updated version for this pregnancy and I love reading it. My husband reads the chapters when I'm done so he knows what's going on.
Actually I liked WTEWYE the least. My favorites are Pregnancy Bible and the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. You can always go to the library, check them all out and then buy the ones you really like. That's what I'm doing.
Me: 44 DH: 42.
DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09.
TTC since then with no luck or ART.
Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
I also really like Your Pregnancy Week to Week. I feel like it is written in plain English and doesn't try to give you too much information and scare you. Several of my friends have commented that WTEWYE scared them at times b/c it gives you all of the "what could happen" scenarios.
I did not like WTEWYE, I felt like it was very alarmist and extreme in some of the positions it took. My OB's office gives out the book "Your Pregnancy and Birth" by the American College of Obstetrics and Gyn at your 1st appointment, and that was very helpful. Also the "your pregancy week by week" is great for more of the fun facts and what happening now type knowledge.
I got WTEWYE from the library... i however dont find it alarmist at all .. i feel they have all that stuff towards the bacck if you do want to read it.. I have found it no different then looking at babycenter.com for my weeks
I bought it but then I signed up for the WTEWYE e-mail updates on the website. They send you a little blurb every day and it is EXACTLY the same as what you would read in the book. It doesn't have all the information as the book, but it makes reading the book a little redundant, especially if you have other week by week books. The e-mail messages are free.
I don't have WTEWYE but I had a friend who got it and she said alot of the things that the pp's said about it being alarmist and making you feel like you can't do anything, FWIW.
I'm not a good person to ask, lol. I have always been an avid reader (I literally have a different book on the go in nearly every room in the house. Bedroom, 2 bathrooms, family room, and two at the cottage).
I'm really enjoying WTEWYE, Your Pregnancy Week by Week, the Mayo Clinic pregnancy guid. Also, not for info on your pregnancy, but for what you're going to end up buying, I LOVE Baby Gizmo's, it's really opened my eyes with a lot of differnt issues!
I bought WTEWYE as my first book & it scared me so my husband bought me "The Pregnancy Journal; A Day-To-Day Guide to a Healthy and Happy Pregnancy" & I love it. It has a place in it for notes & feelings and tells me about the baby day by day. I am still reading WTEWYE but I would not suggest it as your 1st book to read; it has a great deal of good information but does tell you all the possible bad stuff that could possibly happen.
I use it for reference only, like if i wonder if something is normal i look at my wtewye book. Its just got WAY to much info. Honestly it sort of freaked me out. I have the week by week book also, i love it!
WTEWYE scared the crap out of me. I'm well aware of all of the complications that come with being pregnant. I didn't need to be reminded everytime I picked the book up. I agree Your Pregnancy Week by Week was the greatest ever. My H and I read it together at the start of each new week.
