So sick and work

Hello ladies!!

I'm new the the bump and have a question! I am 9 weeks and for the past 2.5 weeks I have been super sick! I throw up morning, noon, and night! I work in a meat production factory and have been unable to work due to the smell I literally drive past and start to dry heave and gag from the smell. My doctor has given me shots to try to prevent this and numerous prescriptions, nothing has helped. I have even had to get Ivs to keep me from being dehydrated. And the doctor is really inconsiderate about it saying I'm out of options and won't support me being off work because he has tried to help and can't do anymore for me. I'm at the point where i don't know what to do I could end up being fired if he doesn't help me out. We could afford me to not work but the idea of being fired terrifies me! What would you do??

Re: So sick and work

  • I am sorry you are feeling so crappy. I have never been through this, so I'm not sure how much advice I can offer. Can you ask your work for a short leave of absence until you start feeling better? I know a few other ladies here have had to do that. If your doctor has exhausted all options, I'm not sure what else he can do for you in terms of your job. At the most, he could probably write you a doctors note, but ultimately it would be up to you to discuss with your manager about taking some time off. I hope you find some relief soon.

I would definitely look for another doctor! He really should support you taking sick leave as you are so unwell! Hopefully it will pass as you move into your second trimester. Do you have a supportive boss or manager you could sit down and talk to?
  • I have talked to my supervisor and she's been as supportive as she possibly can be without getting herself in trouble with the company but the company just wants something from the doctor stating I can't work weather it's family leave or just a note. But the doctor is refusing to support that because "he's helped has much as possible"! Which I get he's out of options but all I need is a note stating I'm too ill to work!!

Ask for them to write a note explaining your condition and that there is no further treatment. By law any company you work for has to give you leave if a doctor requires it and some will even pay you. Talk to HR and your doc. My midwife did it for me and explained in the note that I could be out for as long as 8 weeks. In CT medical leave can be up to 16 weeks. See what they can do.
  • I would go see another doctor. My doctor is very supportive and writes notes for leave from work when necessary. Maybe ask some friends with kids about their doctors to try and find a better fit. I'm sorry it's been so tough!
  • Your doctor sounds like a total douchbag. He really is in the wrong field.
