Thick cereal

How do you thicken cereal? We started out at with a tbsp cereal and 4 tbsp milk. Do I just keep adding cereal and keep the same milk? I've never given a child cereal so I'm out if my element. My doctor suggested giving the cereal so I decide to anyway.

Re: Thick cereal

  • Your child probably isn't ready to eat more than a tablespoon of cereal so add less milk to thicken we went from 4 to 3 then to 2 tablespoons of milk we gradually thickened to see what he took well to. Which he loved it and it better with 2 tablespoons of milk. Now we give him a little more cereal when he has it bc we've been doing it for about a month now and his greedy with it. Yes greedy with fruits n veggies too lol

  • When you started out, did you have to give him more milk afterwards? The first day she got hungry sooner for the next feed. She is a big baby so I'm afraid I'm not feeding her enough.
  • How many ounces of milk does she eat in a feeding. When we were doing just cereal I'd make a 4oz bottle pour what I needed to in with the cereal and then after he was done with cereal I'd feed him what was left of the bottle which was like 3-3 1/2 oz.
  • OK maybe that is what is wrong. She doesn't get a bottle very often but I think she is still eating 3 Oz. I usually pump 2 in the morning and use it for the cereal. I just couldn't understand why using less milk was to thicken it up was right. It was less food.
  • If you want to give your LO more cereal than do so. If you feel she isn't eating enough. But I usually give mine a small bottle after. Now that I give him more cereal and a fruit or veggie with it I still give him about an oz or a oz and half after words. He's a greedy hungry lil boy so I know what he can handle eating. I know soon I'll be giving him more food meals probably 3 a day instead of 2 and probably only a big bowl of cereal in the morning bc right now he gets two bowls a day as doctor recommended me to start of doing bit that'll probably change when we go to the doctor next week.
  • Thank you for the advice.
  • Your welcome! I'm a ftm so I'm learning but I have two older sisters who have been through this so they give great advice. Plus myy one older sister her lil girl is 3 months older than my son so that helps. I just ask her questions and then I do what I think is best for my LO and learn what he likes and what he can handle eating.
