My crazy pregnancy conspiracy theory ...

This is the second week in a row where I'm wide awake at 3am even though I've been dragging my feet and lagging all day. I'm up for about an hour and then I can toss and turn myself back to sleep. This is not the normal FML-I'm-pregnant-as-a-moose-wanna-die-miserable-gotta-waddle-to-the -bathroom-and-pee-then-toss-n-turn-with-heartburn-and-contractions-and-a-back-ache middle of the night wake up. I go from dead asleep to eyes wide open and alert and first thought is, "My water is going to break right now." I normally then have a wicked contraction. Then nothing, but I'm wide awake for an hour or so.

My conspiracy theory is this (blame the sleep deprivation): my body is prepping me to go into active labor around 3am and these are just "dry runs" for the main event.

Who else has been driven to the point of insanity with weird theories/thoughts about their bodies or how their baby is going to make their entrance?

Re: My crazy pregnancy conspiracy theory ...

  • No weird theories, but 3 am is my wake up time too. Starts off as a pee break, then I toss and turn and decide I'm hungry. Downstairs having a granola bar right now. Fingers crossed I can get back to sleep in a few mins!
  • Loading the player...
  • I'm up. More to pee and eat than obsess, but I will commiserate with being awake. Hey ladies!
  • Mines at 4. Pee first w contraction. And then toss and turn.
  • Yes somewhere between 2 and 4 am and I remain awake for almost 2 hours. Now you have me paranoid my water will break at that time! Lol
  • Maybe the conspiracy is bigger than I first anticipated since we are all up around the same time ... Lol
  • I typically wake up at 3. But it has more to do with my 3 year old tapping me, and saying, " Mommy. Mommy. Mommy." He will then start driving his trains or cars on my arms and head.
  • It's weird bc this will be my third but I've never had pregnancy insomnia in my previous pregnancies. I don't have any crazy theories to share but utterly annoyed at how wide awake I am from 12:30a-4am and then have to get up a few hours later for work
  • I don't wake up at that time I'm still awake because the ninja inside of me thinks 10pm-2am is playtime on a good night, on a bad night playtime lasts until 3-4am.
My DH said last night his child will go to bed early and wake up early...I laughed, apparently he doesn't realize in baby time waking up early will be about 2-3am...not what DH considers the reasonable hours of anytime after 4:30am.
  • Yep always up around 2-3 am and sometimes don't fall back to sleep until close to 6 and then DD gets up :-(
  • I'm usually awake from midnight to 3am. I think it's a conspiracy to get me trained for those middle of the night feedings and sleep deprivation.
  • I asked my doctor about this because my insomnia seemed to start early (25 weeks and I'm a FTM, so I don't know any better) and he said that all of the extra hormones coursing through can alter circadian rhythms. So, based on his statement, it makes sense that I'm waking up at the same times on different nights unless I do something to drastically change my sleep cycle.
  • I'm up at 3:20 every night just tossing and turning. I have the same feeling that I'm going to wake up at this time and be in labour.
  • Yup, up around 2-3 to pee. No contractions or water breaking fears, just lots of thoughts & a hard time going back to sleep. :(
  • I'm up every two hours to pee now but the 4am one keeps me up usually. It's due to the same as other pp, can't stop thinking, sometimes an aching hip.
  • Im up at that time too! My therory is my body is preparing for feedings every 3 hours :) get ready ladies, we're at the final stretch!

I have a theory. Mother Nature makes the last weeks of pregnancy so uncomfortable that you begin to not even care what labor and deliver will feel like. Totally used to fear it before getting pregnant... And now at 38 weeks... I can't think of anything I'd rather do right now.

I'm more scared of not knowing. I know feels are just feelings, but I keep thinking this baby is coming early and I have BHs so often I feel like I'm gonna wake up and baby just slipped out. Haha.
  • Not so much that but "the mysteries of pregnancy" are starting to piss me off.

Come on guys, if MEN had to go through this, medical science would have already found all the answers AND found effective ways to make it so seamless, it would be pleasant.

But because it's us, the best we get is "idunno.. hormones? The moon?" followed by "Come on. All the pain makes it even more worth it" What kind of logic is this?

    UGH.

    Truth.
  • I wake up at exactly 3 and exactly 530 every night it's so odd!
  • My mother would agree with your theory, she woke up in labor with me in the middle of the night after being convinced it would happen that way.
  • Hrrmm. I hadn't really considered this. I do wake at 3am to pee and lately it's also wicked heartburn/acid. But I did go into labor with Ingrid overnight, so maybe it will happen again that way? Grrr. Between that and my own snoring waking me up, I never get good sleep anymore, but there's another conspiracy theory hiding in there somewhere.

Oh, I know that feeling lol! That's a good sign though, maybe your body is trying to prep for pushing that little one out. In our classes, the instructor told us our body has been preparing for the feeling and pain of labor for 40 weeks, and it knows to do this regardless of whether it's the first time or not. Which means you will never in your life be MORE prepared for any other type of pain. Plus it doesn't last for typically longer than 24 hours... And you can do anything for just a day. You'll be great; good luck on the big day!!!!
  • I can't sleep at all. Can't say DH is helping either. He has hit me in the face 3 times while sleeping  and doesn't even wake up to me yelling at him.

  • Not sleep related and probably irrational but my DH has 2 work events in the next 7 days and I am 36+5 today. I am semi convinced that if baby decides to come more than 5 days early it is most likely to happen during one of these commitments (one I had to buy a dress for and the other is Thanksgiving which I'm co-hosting with another wife).
  • We are a family where Murphy's Law tends to rein supreme so I have felt the day before Thanksgiving or the big day where we are hosting out of town family and friends would probably be when I spontaneously go into labor since we have been banking on the fact that I haven't ever gone into labor on my own when we made these plans.

    This! Omg yes!
I get hit in the face by accidnet all the time but I get a half asleep "aww sorry darling" and a drooly forehead kiss lol
  • 11pm-2 am is my wake up time ...
  • I always thought it was just our bodies preparing us for an infant who sleeps in 1-2 hour increments. That's why it's so infuriating when people tell us to 'sleep while you can.'

  • I have the opposite problem: I sleep completely through the night and never wake up to pee, despite drinking about a gallon of water a day including an entire glass of water with my vitamins right before bed.
Therefore, I have already worried that I won't be able to wake up when the baby needs me because I am too efficient of a sleeper. Ah, pregnancy worries.

  • The midwife who gave circadian rhythm advice sounds spot on. I love midwives. 3am to 4am is a regular rhythm time to wake up, we are just trained to sleep through it as adults. That sleep study that was done with people in 24 darkness had people waking up at about 3am to enjoy an hour or two of productivity, then go back to sleep for a few hours.
