I'm entering my second trimester and I'm getting such bad headaches. My doctor told me it was okay to take Tylenol. Anyone else getting terrible headaches at the end of the day?!
I've been suffering from awful headaches & migraines all along (I'll be 9wks tomorrow)...it's been brutal. Tylenol hasn't done anything for me at all, but alternating between hot & cold compresses seems to help a bit. I bought one of those magic bags that you warm in the microwave, & I lay with it behind my neck/over my shoulders. Aside from that, showers & sleep are the only other ways I've been able to get some relief.
Sorry you're dealing with them, too. It's definitely not fun! Get well.
UGH yes!!! Basically every single night before I go to bed I get a terrible one. Luckily by the time I wake up they're gone. DH is paranoid and doesn't want me to take tylenol even though the doctor said it was okay so I generally just go to bed early whenever I feel one coming on. You're not alone though!! These headaches suck.
Ugh so glad to hear I'm not the only one. My sister had them really bad too and she took Tylenol like every day for weeks and my nephew is a smart, beautiful, toddler. I feel so bad taking Tylenol, but nothing seems to releave them. Sometime Tylenol doesn't even work. I hope this stage comes and goes fast. They are NOT fun. You mamas hang in there too!!
@sharpiemom Dehydration could be the culprit! When I was around week 10 I started getting these awful come and go headaches throughout the entire day... I wasn't drinking a lot of water at the time cause I was so used to water making my MS worse, so I kind of stayed away from it. Now that the MS is mostly gone and I've been drinking more water I've found my headaches have decreased significantly, both in severity and number. Low blood sugar can also cause headaches. Make sure you're snacking regularly and drinking plenty of water!
I get terrible headaches almost every night. So far, the best relief comes from drinking a little caffeine. I used to drink caffeine non-stop, so I think my headaches are partially related to that - on top of the pregnancy hormones. It might help!
I had them for a full month last pregnancy, I'm getting them again this time too. FFFC: I took Aleve a few times last pregnancy, and have taken it once, maybe twice this time when it gets to where I can't function or sleep. But water and caffeine can help too!
@DeePaddy24 and @TaylorK89 both give great advice. I have had a head ache for 3 days and have been using a rung out teatowel soaked in cold water as a compress. Works well!
I was getting pretty bad headaches but since I started drinking a little bit of a Coke in the mornings it has stopped. I also drink lots of water the rest of the day.
I'm 11 1/2 weeks and I started getting them week 10. They are awful sometimes they come on at end of the day but sometimes they last for days at a time. They are awful! My husband is same way he doesn't want me taking anything for it. A cold wash cloth or ice pack on my forehead helps me though.
I am almost 11 weeks and got my first migraine during pregnancy yesterday. It was so bad I tried to hold off until this morning but then I caved and took extra strength Tylenol. It helped me at least get up and be semi productive. I also got my first prenatal massage today and that helped relieve some tension.
I get horrible migraines when I'm not pregnant but when I am they're even worse. I had one this morning that made me so nauseaus that I literally puked 10 times in 3 hours before I was able to hold down any meds. My doctor prescribed fioricet my last pregnancy so I'm going to ask for a script at my appointment Tuesday. Also, my mom told me that one drop of frankinsense oil rubbed onto the roof of your mouth is supposed to be really effective for migraine pain and I have read that its safe during pregnancy so I may give it a shot next time I get a headache.

Agree with the water comments from others. With my first and second, I remember around this time going through this stage where if I didn't drink water constantly throughout the day (like 3 of my 16 oz water bottles worth), I'd wind up with a headache. And Tylenol really did nothing so I gave up on that and focused on keeping hydrated. Good luck!
It's unfortunately pretty normal. I make myself drink two tall glasses of water with each Tylenol pill I take. Then my doctor recommended an ice pack to the neck... and I'll be honest, sometimes the neck ice pack works better than Tylenol.
These last few days I've had a non-stop headache. It hasn't been a BAD headache but it's still a headache. I'm worried because when I had my first miscarriage (at about 5-6 weeks,) I had had a five-day headache leading up to it. I'm 11 weeks today and hoping this one stays around despite my angry head! Headaches are common in pregnancy, right!?!? We don't have to worry too much, right!? |:

@Boonhilde Unfortunatly, yes they're normal. I wrote this post to see if anyone had any suggestions because Tylenol doesn't work very well for me. It seems like we're definitely not alone in this headache thing. Hopefully they go away soon! Hang in there mama! It helps to hear you're not the only one going through everything.
@jsimmo2010 I posted on the relax thread, but I've been having terrible headaches (had migraines before pregnancy). I bought the 'hug' aromatherapy neck thing from Origins and it's a life saver. It has eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender but isn't overly fragrant and can be heated or cooled. It relaxes my neck, shoulders and jawline and I've noticed a difference if anyone is interested in trying it. I also guzzle water whenever I feel one coming on as pps said. oh, it's $32 right now.
I've been having terrible head aches the last couple weeks too! I need to make myself drink more water for sure. Even with water I think they are a symptom we just have to wait out.
I'm 10 weeks now and I've had three headaches so far, the absolute WORST! I didn't take anything because frankly I'm scared to, but I think the 'hug' aromatherapy neck thing from Origins is worth investing in.
9 weeks today and I have been having the worst headaches. Ive had one, in the same spot, for 2 days straight now. I finally caved and tried Tylenol, which did nothing. A warm compress helped a little, but not enough. Even as I'm writing this, I'm in agony. I've been drinking water. Which doesn't seem to help. I'm finding my first trimester to be extremely miserable. Glad I'm not alone, but I wish all of our headaches would go away.
I have the worst headaches like everyday along with neck pain. Its the worst. I just take one extra strength tylenol when it's unbearable. I also found taking a nice warm shower or drinking warm tea helps as well. I also bought a therapeutic pillow that helps with with tension headaches.
My Mom used to get horrible migraines and I got her a lavender kit from Bath and Body Works and it had eye masks that had lavender oil on them and they were her miracle cure. I tried them once when I had a migraine and it helped very quickly. I don't think they sell the kit anymore, but you can buy lots of various lavender products that can help.
I went to my OB yesterday and she told me in order for the Tylenol to work, you can't take it when the headache is already excruciating, you have to take it when its first coming on. Makes sense.
