Nesting

Has anyone started nesting?? I went through all five boxes of Christmas decorations I have and threw out enough to downsize the box to two. I then deep cleaned my coffee maker. I took everything out of my hutch in my kitchen and threw out most of it. I cleaned out my fridge completely and went through all my paperwork (medical, house, warranties, insurance) and organized it. DD's room is next....

Re: Nesting

  • Yeah off and on. A few weekends ago I cleaned out the spare room to make some space to move things from the guest room (which will be the nursery). Today I cleaned out my closet. I have spurts of it, but still not a ton of energy to get through it all.

  • I've had some slight nesting but nothing crazy. Pretty sure my DH is waiting for me to hardcore nest soon. I want to start painting small Knicks and smudges in our house that the dogs have caused and that's pretty much what I think about most :persevere:
  • With DD I washed all the baseboards, steam cleaned the carpets, polished all cabinets in the house, washed all the walls, and re did all of my window treatments.

  • Conveniently we are moving from CA to VA in 3 weeks so while packing I got rid of A LOT of stuff with baby in mind. DH was cracking up as I went through our filing cabinets with the shredder next to me and said I was on a rampage like never before. I just find it so refreshing that we will have a new and bigger home as a clean slate, and I've already been looking at my layout pictures to determine where everything will go, paint colors, nursery ideas, antique shopping and fixing certain pieces up that we already have to make them much more homey for our new little family. Definitely getting into it, big time!
  • Yesterday, my husband cleaned all of our bathrooms & I vacuumed and mopped the entire downstairs and also used this little hand tool vacuum we have to do our stairs (takes forever) aaand threw out like 3 rugs and ran out to buy ones to replace them.

    So, in short, yes.

  • Yes, but also in spurts like @yogahh. Yesterday I washed about 4 loads of clothes and cleaned the kitchen and laundry room. Today I cleaned the bedroom and put away the clothes. I also cooked a full dinner with a cake for dessert.
  • Pregnancy gets me in the mood to get things done around the house, but I think typically the crazy lady stuff doesn't happen until right before baby. We knew my daughter was coming when I spent 16 hours cooking freezer meals with my mom followed by a day of vacuuming the garage ceiling and throwing out all the things. One of my best friends stayed up all night the day before she went into labor hand stitching curtains.
  • Yep. Bigtime this weekend. I scrubbed just about everything, and during naptime, I got out extra material that I had on hand (I'm reeeaaaally bad about getting a yard or two of things I like that are on sale)  and recovered some pillows from attic storage for the livingroom to make under the fireplace more cushy and I made window valences for our poor, previously-ignored kitchen. I reorganized the kitchen cabinets and ordered some stacking baskets for produce to clear up some countertop space. They're supposed to arrive tomorrow; I'm really excited. I'm so pumped to have nesting energy in time for decorating for the holidays!
  • Not me. One of my big fears is that I will never nest.

Same here! It needs to happen. I'm praying for some of that juju tomorrow. I'm off work, but we go out of town the next day. Lots to do!

  • Oh, I'm going big.  Decided to swap out the playroom and living room.  It's going to be a VERY good change, but it's a big project.  It also involves figuring out what to do with our behemoth of an entertainment center (which was great in our big great room back in TX, but doesn't work in the tiny rooms we have in our new house up here in the north!)  I jokingly referred to the work we did this weekend as "phase I" and now it's on to "phase II."  I'm hoping there will be no need for a "phase III"!

@doozer1345 come to my house next?

I have slightly more energy but just reading that exhausted me. Hoping in a few weeks to really start getting some things done!

Hey, can you spare some of that clean streak? ;)

I have started nesting a bit. I've cleaned out the nursery so it is a completely bare room. I am thinking that I will start painting it after Christmas is over. I just have so much to do with the holidays!

  • I am single-handedly keeping our local Home Depot in business.
That's how my Hubby and I feel! So far this year we've finished the basement, bought a new washer, dryer AND fridge, gotten a fence, and replaced all by one room of carpet with laminate (granted the laminate came from lumber liquidators not Home Depot). We're ALMOST done though. SO CLOSE.

I have a feeling for me the nesting will start once all the rooms are put back together from replacing the flooring. My hubby keeps reminding me not to push myself too hard because I'm "preggers after all". I usually make a face at him- I promise I'm doing less than I did before.
  • Definitely in a nesting mode right now. I cleaned the entire house yesterday along with all the laundry. I'm washing all the bedding today after work and finally putting our Halloween stuff sitting in my office away. Then I have my appointment tomorrow after which I plan on dragging out the Christmas decorations. I also plan on getting some boxes to start packing up my office Wednesday. I'm hoping this energy lasts a little bit bc we've been really behind on doing stuff at the house. I really need to get my office cleared out bc my dad wants his Christmas present to us to be the new floor in the babies room. Energy needs to last at least till that happens.
  • I did all the purging this weekend. I was not going to bring down all the Christmas decorations in my filthy I haven't cleaned in 4 months state. It was so amazing, my husband scrubbed and scrubbed. We packed, rearranged, and got rid of all the things. It is so nice to have the house in a somewhat good state before the holiday season. And, but, also, MAN if not knowing what sex this baby is doesn't kill me! I want to sort and purge all the baby things, but knowing if baby girl #2 is on her way or if I have to start over from scratch! Our major baby stuff is all neutral, but clothes - different story!

  • No full on nesting yet but I'm trying to tackle big time consuming projects around the house while I can.

That being said, DH just decided we should buy a business and now we have to tackle that before baby comes too....:/
  • I wish nesting energy would hit me, but if it's not one thing it's another.  Don't sleep worth a hoot and then if I do, my sinuses make me feel too much like crap to want to do anything,.

Was that just awful? We're making a mother in law suite in our unfinished basement as well as putting walls up to separate the basement into rooms. DH thinks it's going to be wildly expensive. I don't think it's going to be cheap but I don't think it's going to be astronomical either.

It really depends on how you do it. We finished half the basement this year and half last year. Last year we hired contractors and it was a giant pain in the ass. They kept saying they were going to be working full days and then only working 2 days because something didn't come in or whatever. Granted we had to because we needed to put bigger windows in to meet the egress standards in our state.  I ended up using up almost a month of leave so now I'm freaking out about taking too  much time off when baby comes. The half we finished this year wasn't that bad. We had to hire an electrician to run cable but we did the rest ourselves. Drywall is a pain but less so than the contractors. The biggest pain was trying to level the floor since we put laminate down- we didn't do a great job so it creaks and dips in spots but overall it wasn't bad cost wise. I think because the majority of the electrical and all the framing was done it cost us about $800 to do one room.

Most women don't truly "nest" until the 3rd trimester so no worries. :)

  • I am so pumped that I have the energy to vacuum the massive amounts of dog hair that accumulate in the house after two months of basically being passed out most of the time. But I love fixing up the house and cleaning so extra excited for when nesting energy kicks on. For now just trying to hold things together, and contemplating hiring a house cleaner for a few hours a month.
  • @ladysamlady I never did the "Oh my baby is coming" third tri nesting, but I specialize in the "time to get our life in order" somewhat regularly.

I want a Roomba for that very reason! I've been watching their prices on Amazon. They have one specifically for pet hair.

DH is wanting to put a bathroom down there and everything. I think the main issue down there is moisture. I've read dehumidifiers really help with that. We thankfully have a friend who does this as his job who is going to help us.

  • DH and I have plans to clean out the nursery (which is a junk room right now) over the holiday break. I am starting to get really antsy to at least get it cleaned out and start organizing our garage. In the meantime I have gone through our linens closet, washed and donated what we dont need and organized what I decided to keep.
  • Nope.

I hate cleaning and I hate home improvement and I don't anticipate a magical personality transformation on that front. I might buy, like, a crib (MAYBE), but I suspect that's going to be about the extent of it. And probably I'll just shove that task off on my husband anyway.

I sort of half-wish I had more of a nesting impulse, but honestly I don't have time for it anyway.
  • No nesting here... all I want to do is sleep!
  • edited November 2015
No but I am seriously waiting on that glorious time and banking on it. I love cleaning and organizing. But lately if I have a spare moment I love sitting down eating chips and salsa and sleeping more...
  • We just moved into our new place in September but the other night I hated the layout of the living room and kitchen. Spent hours while my husband was at work rearranging all the furniture.

Now if only the nesting can make me want to finish unpacking the last few boxes in the future nursery

Luckily we didn't have to do the bathroom- the previous owners did that. :-) When it's time to remodel the bathroom upstairs we're seriously thinking about hiring people because we just don't want to mess with plumbing
  • Mentally I always am nesting however my energy is just not up to par lol
  • No nesting here... all I want to do is sleep!

I dream of all the things I want to or just stare at the house around me while laying down and mentally noting everything lol
