Joint stiffness

Has anyone else noticed issues with their joints? I've had stiffness in my hands and legs for awhile that I figured had to do with general swelling but the past week I noticed this in my jaw too when I'm chewing. It's pretty uncomfortable and usually the worst in the morning making my hands feel pretty painful.

Is this due to water retention or something else? I'll ask my dr about it at my appt next week, I hadn't thought it was a big deal until I noticed it in my jaw but maybe it is still a "normal" pregnancy thing

Re: Joint stiffness

  • Yes!! I have some pain in my hands in the morning. This morning for the first time two of my fingers were too stiff to move. I have heard it's pretty normal. Will check in with my midwife at my apt on wednesday.

  • Yes! My fingers sometimes hurt to move when I wake up first thing in the morning. They get better after being awake for 5 minutes or so and I don't notice it any other time of the day.
  • Yep. Joint stiffness and pain. I think with my hands it could be pregnancy carpal tunnel. I think there was a thread about this a couple weeks ago. They talked about doctor's suggesting braces for your hands while you sleep. Might be one way to help?
  • Yep, completely normal, and it just gets worse the farther along you get in pregnancy. My hands/arms hurt all the way up to my elbows. It gets so bad that it wakes me up at night!
  • Definitely check in with your doctor, but my midwife said it's the really bad swelling I'm having. I wake up in the middle of the night and can't bend my fingers. No jaw pain, but I'm guessing that's part of it. Or maybe you're grinding your teeth at night?

  • I'm having the same thing. My hands are swollen on and off throughout the day and every little joint in them is killing me. Sleeping, my arms and hands fall asleep. It sucks!! Now I have noticed 2 days in a row my jaw hurts to chew anything crunchy and it feels like my teeth aren't aligned correctly.. So odd!
  • I think it's pretty common. It happens to me, but only when I first wake up in the morning. It does suck though.
  • I've been grinding my teeth- so I got a bite guard yesterday. I've only used it one night, but I did feel a bit better today. I have arthritis- so I've always got joint pain, but the jaw thing was new. And the feeling like my pubic bone is being cracked in half like a graham cracker- that's new too, but late pregnancy is a bitch.
